Chapter Thirteen:
A Shadowy Mii Mission
My name is Matt.
And I am the most powerful being in the universe, compared to that lanky fool who can't get into Smash or that green-shirted dork who eats without getting overweight. No one can challenge me, knowing that they wouldn't stand a chance.
They fear me, just as they respect me. To beat Matt, you have to gain a stronger power level, but none can surpass me.
It took me many years, but I got to where I am now as the most-feared and respected fighter the world has ever seen. I am a god, a near-powerful god, far powerful than any Mii who has walked this world. People know what I am capable of, they know who they are dealing with when they run into the Mii with the orange shirt.
Skulls can be crushed, all with my bare hands, and enemies can fall in a single punch. And with just the sweep of a hand, one can be warped away to another location or have their molecules dispersed for a brief time.
The Dark Web, Scumslum City.
Today is June 18, 20XX.
And I am on a mission to infiltrate the hives of scum and villainy. I am cautious and I do my best to blend in, be inconspicuous, unrecognizable. This town is full of black-hearted mercenaries, rogue hackers, salesmen who dabble in illegal substances and blood-soaked criminals on the run from the law. There is no light, there is only the darkness.
I take advantage of that darkness, blending in with the shadows, undetected and unknown.
The objective of my mission is simple and straightforward. A few months ago, a little Inkling boy was found maimed in the suburbs of Toad Town and a Toad was discovered to be dead after a hit-and-run in the countryside near Mushroom City. Both crimes are the work of a dangerous Mii and he has made his home here in the Dark Web.
His name is Loh'rys, Loh'rys Shae'ynn, and he's been in the business for years. But he isn't alone, he has people working with him, all of whom are guilty of homicides and various online crimes. The authorities don't go near this place, but I will.
Mushroom Kingdom law enforcement should be keeping an eye on these people, so should Hal Monitor.
What a weak robot of a cop, with all of his disdain for illegal activities and determination to uphold the law, he only goes for crimes happening within the towns and neighborhoods of the Mushroom Kingdom.
If one wants to bring a criminal to justice, you have to take it to their domain.
The Dark Web is that domain, the Dark Web is where the scum of the earth go to do the darkest of deeds unimaginable, where they believe themselves to be safe from Hal Monitor and the law. A shame that nobody has tried to shut down this place, but as long as everything here doesn't affect everyone's lives in the world beyond, it doesn't matter that much to the government.
When people suggest that it doesn't, I'll say, "Yes, it does."
No bad deed should be unpunished. You can't escape karma forever.
I watch the streets from the dark rooftops, my eyes scan the surrounding area and I am silent, even as I draw breath from my lungs. Below, I see a man wearing a Nazi-like uniform in the midst of selling a rocket launcher to a Bokoblin and I see people in robes kneeling around a box-shaped symbol in a park as if they are conducting a demonic ritual, making a sacrifice to a box demon.
To most, the Dark Web is the Underworld, the realm of Hades, and the scum who live here are the demons. And it is from this land the demons stir trouble for those who live in the light.
And to some, the Dark Web is, fittingly, a web of darkness, a spider's nest. It is foolish to travel here, to travel into the Dark Web is an execution sentence for some, as the spider of this place will entangle you in its web of darkness and eat every last piece of its unfortunate victim.
It is in the Dark Web where you will find death. One wrong move and it will be over.
Silently, wordlessly, and swiftly, I moved from the rooftops and into the alleyways. I glided past an Octoling, wearing ragged clothes, and enjoying a drink. I moved around trash cans and I made my way into a garage. I peered around, watching the environment, and that is when I saw him. He stood, his back turned to me, smoking a cigarette and taking in the darkness.
After all this time, I finally have Loh'rys, and he has no chance against me. He will be punished, justice will be delivered. Hal Monitor's birthday is coming, maybe I should give him a gift.
Nobody else is around, none of his goons are.
On top of that, there are no lights on. The darkness is an ally for the scum of the Dark Web. It is in darkness where lives come to an end, by a bullet or a blade that slits the throat. I will use the scum's own weapon against them.
I move slowly, ready to strike. He doesn't turn, I don't speak, and he says something silently, a passing remark. He takes pride in the murders he's committed, no remorse in his heart, and I will not stand for such horrible acts. Just a little closer, he is in my grasp.
Closer and closer, the prey isn't that far. Now, I pounce.
I grabbed him, my hands gripping the sides of his head. He struggles and I cover his mouth, stifling his scream. I raise my hand to deliver the blow. It comes down and my powers are concentrated, Loh'rys Shae'ynn is no longer in the area.
He is in Hal Monitor's custody now and he knows what to do, justice is served.
But my work here is far from over. Back into the shadows, a silent observer, watching for more infamous criminals who reside here. Many of the folks who live in the Dark Web have made the news, nearly all of them have appeared in "Mushroom Kingdom's Most Wanted" or "Inkopolis' Infamous". I will track them down, they will be found and there will be no escape.
You can run, but you can't stand a chance against me...
