And Sirius woke up, surrounded by curious Beings. They have face-paint, ridiculously large horns, long, thick eyelashes and fangs protruding from their lips. Their clothes...asian?
'&^##^*%!'
'&*#$ # # ?'
'Sorry guys, I can't understand anything.' said Sirius sheepishly. 'And I feel like crap.' then his head was assaulted with knowledge he gained. "What the? Skills? Unique Skills? And I instantly know how to use them?! And I'm no longer Inbred? Holy cow!" he was here somehow, in another world if he was here as himself.
It took quite a while. All of them mimed and a lotta guesswork.
So he was taught their language...and he learns quickly.
'You learn very quick.' said old man in white.
'Ahaha, that's thanks to a bit of cheating...my Unique Skill works passively.' said Sirius.
'Unique Skill?' the man did a double-take. 'Indeed, as you appeared in the middle of our village, many magics can do such feats we were prepared for a human invasion. But only Otherworlders can gain Unique Skills. What skills do you have for us to work with?'
'Well, I thought my psychopath for a cousin killed me and I was having my last thoughts...I began hearing voices. Like a woman speaking with no emotions it was creepy.' Sirius shuddered. He told the old man what he got.
'Hmmm...Unique Skills are still a mystery in this world.' said old man. 'But from hearing about your thoughts as you ended up world traveling before your actual death that saved your life, we finally got a clue on how to acquire it. Unique Skills are skills born from the shapes of our desires and even complaints.' Sirius sweatdropped while the other horned people listened in with attention.
'The Voice of the World then Interprets and creates Skills based on your thoughts during World Travel as magicules flowed into your body during your journey here to form those skills. I'd say you have it convenient. Nobody can lie to you and scam you ever again, and you'll learn quickly in lessons. That, and you can learn real bladed combat because you have Ultraspeed Regeneration...worry not, I won't attack your brain, heart and spine. That will really kill you.'
The way the old man looked made Sirius have the shivers.
'Something tells me I'm in for it...' he whimpered.
'And you're right.' said a redhead teenager who looks around thirteen years old. 'Master is very hard during training. He never goes easy on anybody. He'll be harder on you since you can actually regenerate.'
'I can't afford to anyway, this forest is dangerous.' said old man. 'The strong eats the weak, just as how we eat monsters we kill for dinner, young prince.'
'Erm, what are your names by the way...you guys never said anything even though I said my name.' Sirius asked curiously.
'Demi-Humans like us don't have names.' said young prince. 'Tribes like us Oni, Lizardmen and other tribes do not have names. Naming monsters is the highest level of magic in this world. Only beings stronger than us can name us and live to tell the tale about it. Naming a monster will take considerable magical energy from the Namer proportionate to the strength of the monster's next level and will then trigger our evolution and will have a Soul-Bond with the Namer. Sooo no. If we are to refer to each other, it's often by nickname based on words or title.'
'That's rather hard and can get confusing.'
'It does, but we gotta live with it. And also, we won't let 'just anyone' name us. We have a strong code of honor. You'll learn from my father, the Chief about our Culture before you join us in Martial Arts Training.'
Indeed, Sirius learns from the Chief about their tribe.
'We used to be more primitive 400 years ago. As in, wearing fur and using more our fists and claws.' said the Chief. 'Then one day, a number of wounded warriors came to our village. They are Otherworlders like yourself.' he said. 'Out of gratefulness, they taught us what we have today. Better fashion, better weapons and equipment, more refined techniques in combat, agriculture, cooking, and Etiquette as well as code of honor. That was our people's first ever, and only education we've got. Back then our tribe didn't have a name...it was one of these warriors who named us Oni Tribe. Because of that, he died when giving our race its name despite our warnings...and someone else had to explain why he named our tribe Oni.'
'There's apparently supernatural beings with powers similar to us and horns, but Oni are far scarier in looks and appearances compared to us who are ahem, prettier.' the Chief snorted. 'All we shared was the horns and our strength. And no, we don't commit murder for fun, we're not cannibals and we're not harbingers of Calamity either.' he chuckled before continuing on.
'But being human and all men, they died unmarried and childless. The one that remained alive was Byakuya Araki, the man who taught us weapons combat, and hand-to-hand. He has a Unique Skill as well called Lifetaker. The more he kills, the longer he lives. He lived long enough to teach and train, get married to one of our women and had three children, all sons as having children takes a toll on us demi-humans. Even moreso on the mother as nurturing a growing child in the womb eats at her vitality every day till childbirth, while the father only has to deal with losing a bit of his power only once.'
'He knew if he went out to try to restore his strength, he would not be able to teach his children and succession is a serious deal in his world. Warriors from prominent households unable to pass on their art is apparently, beyond the pale as it would mean destruction of his family through weakening over time. His wife also got severely weak upon childbirth. Byakuya lived long enough for his sons and grandchildren, dozens of students plus one Tengu lady to learn from him before dying from loss of vitality. He was fine with how he would leave this world as long as his students mastered all he knew and did not fail a student as a teacher.'
'...sorry to hear that.'
'We Oni have an average lifespan of a century. We age like normal humans on childhood, slow down on adolescence for forty years, slow down on adulthood for forty years, remaining in our prime befitting a warrior race. But in our waning years...we rapidly age to elderly until death at exactly a hundred years. Only Master was the odd one...he lived for three centuries before becoming elderly ten years ago. We figured it must be because of the immense life force he gained from his father upon his conception. His father also has high vitality, higher because he directly got it from Byakuya, his father. We also got a list of names and meanings, if one day, we wanted to name our children. That Scroll of Names is passed down from Village Chief to Heir.'
After that tale, Sirius learned how this world works.
Magicules and Magic System.
Skills.
Human and Monster Cultures.
Culture of Oni Tribe that made Sirius really think of Japan. Politics and Diplomatic crap was part of an Auror's job while escorting politicians around...
The Law of the Forest.
Resources.
Human Nations not to be trifled with.
And since he was living on their generosity, he paid them back with his Apothecary skill. He taught 'whoever's interested' in learning how to make potions. His Unique Skill has all knowledge of herbs and 'monster bits' from certain monsters. And he began teaching in the mornings, while learning under Hakurou after lunch. It was how he earns his keep.
And his Unique Skill: Growth is at work...as long as he gets explanations and demonstrations, he learns the technique in a week or less, depending on difficulty. Body Training, Reflex and Reaction Time Training was last on his menu as technique had to come first. The first thing he learned being Battlewill Arts suited for swordsmen. Due to his physical condition, it was technique, mental and physical training last in that order, before he's allowed to spar with anyone.
Just that...
'WHAT?! Hipokute, that super-rare herb is infact any random harmless weeds exposed to magicules and mutated into Hipokute?!'
'Huh? Is that surprising?' Sirius asked, perplexed. He shaved his beard and moustache and began 'going native' with the clothes, wearing a short-sleeved uwagi and a pair of trousers. Then setta sandals. And due to the tribe's monster diet alongside vegetables they farmed-they only grow ones that has a less-than-three months harvest period-he was a bit nervous...but its actually good that he healed from his malnourishment over time.
'That herb is extinct worldwide, Sirius! Dwargon managed to cultivate it somehow, thus monopolizing Potion Production!'
So Sirius had Princess try it out and to their disbelieving amazement, it happened.
'It's real!'
'That means random weeds are a treasure now as a stable supply of Hipokute! We'll be alright!' the children celebrated until Sirius coughed loudly.
'That's good and all but we have to create magic to process that lovely flower into a Healing Potion...we need a vacuum environment to extract it's essence.' he said loudly, quieting the celebrating children down. '98% makes a High Potion, and 99% makes the Full-Potion. Don't celebrate just yet until we actually make one.' Sirius piped up. 'Veeery tricky. We'll have to practice ladies, and gents! Our goal is a combined Barrier Technique to create a Vacuum Space Sorcery to extract all essence of Hipokute! We only have magic as we don't have resources or technology Dwargon has. Out of all knowledge in my head, Healing Potions are a real pain in the butt to work with, which explains why I taught it last as the most difficult potion in my noggin'.'
'Yeeees!'
'Alright, research time students! I don't got much time in research efforts because old man beats me black and blue in the afternoon after lunch!'
Because that, is oh-so-true...old man is the most merciless on him due to all his skills...he can quickly heal and has Resistances his other students don't have, after all. That, and he learns the art of the sword quickly, as well as jujutsu, tessenjutsu and kyudo. What holds him back in Kyudo was his untrained body. He had to undergo muscular training. For many months.
He also had a talk with old man about possibilities he's wondering about, given how he ended up here, and his regrets with his godson.
'He's probably all alone now...I wonder who the hell told him I'm held captive in the Ministry? He went there alone with his friends as I can't blame him for not trusting any other adults given how his life was...he only trusted me because I'm actually willing to fight for him while everyone always listens to Albus whether they like it or not.'
'Then answer me this, Sirius,' said old man. 'You told me about your gripings and every gripe while you traveled, you keep hearing The Voice of the World.' he said. 'You gained Magic Resistance. What exactly was your griping again?'
Sirius racked his mind. '...I can't say no to Albus...' he croaked out before his eyes widened in realization. 'FUCK! So that's how it is?!' he snarled in rage, his face purple in his anger. 'He can do wandless magic, a difficult thing to do back home...he's using Compulsion on everyone into agreeing with him! When he says 'it's for the Greater Good', it was impossible to turn him down! The Compulsion Charm is on those four damned words!' he let out a long string of expletives and angry curses, while lamenting how many things gone horribly wrong because they couldn't say no to him!
'My god...Lily...James...Harry!' Sirius moaned in utter mortified dismay, his mind on a whirl. 'We're all manipulated! Damn that old man to hell and fuck his Prophecy! We've been played just to see it through! My best friend! My godson whose life is a goddamn chess piece!' he howled in anguish. Old man had to comfort the distraught man.
'Looks like things were awkward this afternoon, Master.' the Chief heard that Sirius was crying angrily in grief on everyone's teacher.
'To be fair, Sirius just had horrifying realizations. He learned way too late that someone he once trusted, manipulated everyone around him, including himself for the sake of a Prophecy involving his Godson this Albus was determined to see through. So many people died. His friends. His colleagues. His godson having a miserable childhood under magic-hating human relatives on Albus' insistence and unable to leave them as long as Albus utters four words laced with Compulsion Magic...the four words Sirius grew to have hatred for called 'for the greater good'. But whose?'
The Chief sported a cringe.
'Aiii...I can see where this is going...'
'Because of one of his gripes during world travel that he can never say no to Albus, he gained Magic Resistance. The Voice of the World must have detected magic attacking him in it. He also has Mental Attack Resistance and Spiritual Attack Resistance as a result.' the old man sighed. 'He didn't take it well and he's mourning all friends he's lost, and his godson set up as a pig for slaughter as bothersome elements who would protect that child, are made to disappear unable to interfere with the Prophecy involving him. But to this day, only Albus, and his godson's parents knows what it was and it involved the boy who's a bit older than young master, and their hated enemy - the Dark Wizard Voldemort.'
'...this is tragic. All because a man wanted to play god.' the Chief growled as the more the Village Teacher talked, the clearer he could see where Sirius came from and understand his grief.
'I'm sure Albus will get his comeuppance, Chief. He will never get to enjoy the things he sought for by sacrificing lives for his goals. Karma will come at work at the best time for justice. It wasn't much consolation to Sirius though, but I'm a believer of Karmic Fate.'
It took Sirius a week to get over his grief, before bouncing back to train. Everyone wisely did not mention what happened last week.
A year later...Sirius was in tip-top shape for someone who's 37 years old. Due to eating well and training, he did not look in his thirties, but someone in his late twenties instead. He was lanky, but muscular. Very ripped from his training he was as if he was sculpted out of wood below his neck. And his skill was now equal to that of old man who just outstripped him with experience, that Sirius dedicated himself to polishing his techniques and getting stronger magic-wise, before exploring his new world and maybe settle down after getting a job.
He wore a red sleeveless uwagi with a darker red obi, maroon trousers, and a modernized style of waraji sandals that had to be custom-made for his feet considering how it looked. He also has jiku tabi.
Everyone's clothes are made out of Hellmoth Silk...it's basically a rare-grade equipment though their weapons are lacking in comparison...normal grade, but they compensate with Mystic Art: Aura Sword. Because they couldn't find resources to make better weapons. But at least, as long as one possesses even one article of rare-grade equipment, their level rises. With it their physical base, and magicule capacity.
Old man would insist that before increasing their levels, they are to hone their bodies to peak limits before increasing their levels. Every time they level up, they will get a 7% increase in areas of Strength, Dexterity, Speed, Agility, Vitality, and Magicule Capacity. The last of which, increases their magicule tolerance before Magicule Toxicity hits in. Sirius has it convenience with Magic Resistance that his threshold was higher in that regard but he will reach his limits eventually that leveling up is a must. Especially for Jura Forest Residents!
'Alright Sirius...be careful out there.' old man told him. 'You will now work to increase your levels. Just because you have Ultraspeed Regeneration doesn't mean you can take risky gambles. As you face Aggressors, you will learn tactics. Just don't forget to bring home your kills!'
'I won't!' and Sirius ventured out for the sake of getting stronger...and returning home each time he gets enough monsters enough to feed a 300-strong village...
...until one day...something really unexpected, but lucky happens...by then, he was Level 20, thanks to his Unique Skill: Growth when normally it takes a year to reach that and yet, he got that in 4 months...and if 7% increase is normal, in his case, it was 10% increase...
