Hawks blew out a deep breath as the students started to disperse around him. He had finally calmed down the students and the press due to the large emergency presence. He wiped his brow and stretched out his wings when the people separated from him. The fire at the first years dormitory was extinguished with the remaining embers of the flames smoking from the water spraying down the facade.

Hawks landed by Izuku who had just told the students that all was well. They had instructed the first years to go to the empty second year dormitory rooms on the top floors of the building in the center of the three towers by the waterfront facing Downtown Detroit. The students marched like ants from their building to the one next door in order to move temporarily until the firts eyar building could be repaired to fill function. Reporters, snapping all the pictures they could of the smoldering building and the beat-up Deku with the students mulling about over the dark clearing grounds deep into the night, started to pack up their equipment and roll away in news vans.

"Well, the students are accounted for," Hawks said. "Hopefully, they can move back to their dorms next week."

"I'm really sorry about everything," Izuku said. "This day went from bad to worse."

"Please," Hawks grabbed Izuku's shoulder and prodded him towards the northern end of the island to the dock area. "U.A had far more exciting days than this one. And that was with All Might."

"What about All Might?"

Izuku spun around. Momo stood in her hero costume behind them by a small lamppost.

"Yaoyayoyo- I mean, Yaoyorozu," Izuku shook his head at the mispronunciation. "How are you?"

"Fine," She brushed away a small splotch of soot on her arm. "I tried to assist the firefighters as best as I could. The students were also tough to wrangle. Especially the ones in the school."

Izuku blinked and raised an eyebrow. "In the school?"

"Yes," Momo brushed back a strand of her hair. "Four students were found in the laboratory by the basement. They all claim to have no memory of why they were down there. It was Riley, Sigi, Melanie, and a second year named Gavin. Apparently, they all broke curfew and entered the school building without permission."

"Even Melanie," Izuku asked. "But she couldn't possibly break any rules. She's Canadian!"

"I'll have security pull up what tapes we can find," Momo said. "They seemed injured, but mostly bruises. I'll leave it up to you for any discipline."

"I should discipline myself," Izuku said. "I've made a disaster from today."

"You did well," Momo smiled and grabbed Izuku's hand. Before he could squabble in shock at her touch, she held his shaking palms in her hands and rubbed her thumb over it.

"Yao-."

"You led your class," Momo said. "You found your students. The school is standing for the most part. Don't be so hard on yourself. Okay?"

Izuku blushed and licked at his chapped lips. "Of course. Uh…maybe tomorrow, we can do that dinner?"

"Yes, I figured you'd be a bit tired from today," Momo said. "So I'll put away my dress for tomorrow. Eight tomorrow."

"Yes," Izuku nodded like a broken bobble head. "Eight. I'll see you then, Yaoyayoy-Yaoyo…Momo."

Momo grinned and patted Izuku on the shoulder. She passed by him and strolled to a limousine that was parked at the waterfront drive. A driver opened the door, and she climbed inside. Next to her, she grabbed a bottle of wine from a bucket and cracked the top open. The door closed, and the limousine rolled away towards the front bridge.

Izuku pressed a clammy finger to his face. It was as hot as the sun and red as a tomato. He looked back to Hawks who smirked down at the man.

"First name basis already, huh?" Hawks teased.

"It's normal in America," Izuku stammered.

Hawks chuckled. "Well, I wanted to let you know that my informant got spooked by all the craziness, so he won't be joining us today. I'll let you know when he will meet again, and maybe we can get to the bottom of the quirk-erasing signal."

Izuku sighed. "I completely forgot about that. Okay, and I'm going to do some investigating of my own. I think I'm going to…tour the city by myself more."

"Maybe you could do some volunteering," Hawks said. "Establish a rapport with the citizens. It could only help."

Izuku placed his hand in his pocket. The steel of the revolver felt warm and inviting in his grasp. "You're right. The streets could use some cleaning up."

With a soft nod, Izuku hobbled towards the second year dorm building. He supposed he should speak to his class before he turned in for the night at the teachers' condo building on the other side of the island. His bones aching from the car crash, he stood straight with new resolve running through him like powdered sugar fueling his drive.

Hawks hummed at the strange set of words. However, he shrugged and took off back to the pier. He flew over the school building and skied down to the empty dock area.

He landed right at the edge of the wood pier. His boots clacked on the wood as he walked to the edge of the water.

"The informant called on my burner," Hawks said. "He said the deal was off, then hung up. I guess he got spooked. So we'll have to find another source to get closer to the signal."

Hawks stopped at the head of spiked black hair bobbing in the water by one of the dock's pillars. Dabi had stayed hidden in the water this whole time as instructed which was one of the few times he ever followed orders.

"You don't have to hide anymore, Dabi," Hawks said. "I'll take you back to the safe house, and then we can regroup for the next phase."

From his angle above the villain, Hawks noticed Dabi staring right at the pillar with hard, narrowed eyes.

"Look, I know you feel like a second-class citizen," Hawks kneeled down. "But this is what we have to do. Plus, I can bring you pizza tomorrow. I know you like pizza."

Silence.

"Dabi, you're important. We wouldn't even have their trust if it weren't for you."

Silence.

Hawks let out a heavy sigh. He reached down to touch Dabi's head. "Listen, Touya. Can you stop acting like a kid for two seconds and listen to me."

Hawks talked at the top of his head. When he did so, Dabi's head moved…

…And fell clean off his own neck, decapitated and staring straight at him.

"And that's all I remember."

Riley spoke through his phone while seated at his new desk. The stock computer laying on the oak table glowed with a picture of the school on the home screen.

"That's interesting," one of the voices said. "I thought our system would work perfect. Whatever happened cut us off from you entirely."

"We thought we lost you in that time," another voice stated. "We were ready to send in emergency support."

"That would have ended the whole mission," Riley furrowed his brow.

"Your safety is most important," a deeper-voiced man stated. "We have a few options on solving this issue, but you have to come first. After all, you're our first time traveler. That means something for your family, your country, and all of humanity."

"I understand," Riley said.

"Well, keep tabs on that second year," he said. "Whatever he is doing seems like the most important part of the mission. If he can unlock what we need, then he may be valuable. We can take him and the technology back."

"Affirmative," Riley said.

"This likely won't be solved anytime soon," the voice stated. "We will decipher what you saw in the lab that we can play back. But it probably won't be what we need. So patience is the key."

"So I'll be here indefinitely," Riley stroked a hand through his brown hair.

"I know I said this mission would only be a few days," He said. "But the window to what the objective closed when you went offline. But I'm sure it will open again. Just keep your eyes and ears open. We will alert you if we detect anything else."

Riley stared out at the window. The skyline of Detroit glowed over the reflection on his handsome face. "Understood."

"In the meantime, live your life. Be a student. Learn about this new world. This alone is invaluable, even if it's not the objective."

Riley nodded. "I will do my best."

"I know you will. Soon, we will have The Quotient of Heaven."

"For The Quotient Of Heaven," Riley repeated in a chant-like rhythm.

"Logging out for the night," A female said in The background.

"For the Quotient Of Heaven," the deeper voice said. "Oh, and Riley?"

"Yes?"

"Good night, son."

"Good night, dad," Riley said over the phone.

The phone hung up. Riley sighed and stood at the window. He placed his hand on the cold glass and huffed hot air on the pane. He had signed up for a simple extraction mission of this crucial information. He was so close to grabbing it from that computer. If only he had not neglected the notion that various people in this future had these superpowers that were unpredictable and seemed to bend the laws of physics.

He still could not remember how he had been stabbed, but he figured the "quirks" that the older boy might have had something to do with it. That, or that annoying Sigi girl had somehow stabbed him.

Yet, his mind was also at ease due to his mission being possible. Mainly because he confirmed that this was no longer a wild goose chase. Whatever was done this night had confirmed what he had been told for years.

He saw something incredible. The most breathtaking landscape and calming atmosphere. A symphony of warmth and beauty hugged him whenever he closed his eyes and remembered the sight. Every moment he stood in that nirvana made him feel more euphoria than he thought imaginable.

For just a second, he was in Heaven.

So then, Riley thought, why did he lie and tell his father that he remembered nothing? Was it too personal to share? Was he concerned about disappointing the home base by not retrieving the code needed to transport him there. Would people be jealous?

No, Riley reasoned. His father would not be so irrational as to allow that. But, he may have transported emergency support to somehow get the code already. He doubted it would work; the code was likely gone from the memory of the computer.

So maybe, Riley wiped away the moisture on the window. Maybe he actually wanted to stay here. For just a little longer.

Knock knock.

"Yo, Garrick!"

Riley straightened out his olive muscle shirt. He had to remember that for as mature as his training was, he was still a student at this school. He needed to blend in and learn about what people his age would be like in this crazy future.

He crossed the room and opened his door. Before him, the red-head from Wisconsin wearing a football letterman jacket and black pants sleeked back his red hair and chewed on a piece of gun.

"Garrick," Aiden said. "That's your name, right?"

"It is," Riley said.

"Yeah, Mister Deku is in the lobby," Aiden said. "Wanted us to head down to the kitchen area. Said he had food or something."

"Food," Riley said. "Didn't we just eat?"

"Yeah, but real food," Aiden said. "Said it was sent from Lagniappe as a surprise for tonight. Also, no class tomorrow, bitches! Let's go!" Aiden shouted.

Aiden smacked Riley's shoulder and ran down the hall to the exit. Riley shrugged and left his room for the kitchen downstairs.

The kitchen area was underneath the lobby in a basement of sorts. It was mainly a kitchenette with a large fridge and a stove with an oven. A few cabinets lined the perimeter with a long table stretching out across the room. To the furthest corner, a pool table sat with two cues laying in the green velvet. In the opposite corner, a leather sofa sat with a plasma television playing a horrible movie with some crazy guy in long black hair shouting abiut how he was being torn apart by a girl named Lisa.

Riley stepped down the last part of the staircase and entered the room. The rest of the Class 1-A students dotted the room with varying levels of energy. Ayumu slept on the couch next to Ivan and Sam The Dog who watched the movie. Ayumu's dream state, however, floated about and poked out of the floor to scare Tao who immediately shouted at Ayumu some strange incantations to rid the "demon spirit" in the room. Next to him, Sigi interrogated the girl and asked her "what she knew about ghosts" but was answered with Ayumu flying through the air and zooming through her which caused Sigi to yelp and shout about how she was "watching her."

Merle played pool with Aiden who was knocking in ball after ball with the tenacity of a pool shark. Skylar was teaching a dance for Leon to perform in front of his cell phone. Leon had no idea what was happening, and simply fell onto his side due to his lack of dance skills. Mai was in the kitchen helping Izuku heat up two large vats of steaming food that she stirred with a giant ladle. Melanie was setting the long table with plates and utensils while Lynn sat on a stool and watched the pool game which Aiden had just won. He let out a loud shout and threw his cue down.

"Let's go!" Aiden shouted.

"What's going on here?" Riley asked to himself.

"We are about to consume spice-inundated sustenance," Melanie said. "I suggest you prepare your stomach."

"Apparently, Lagniappe herself made it as a gift earlier today right in this room," Aiden smacked his lips. "It's gonna be as hot as her!"

"Alright everyone," Mai announced from the kitchen area. "Please grab a plate and dig in!"

The class scrambled for the plates. They grabbed them, and then lined up to where Izuku slammed what appeared to be gator gumbo on their plates. Riley was one of the last students, and he sniffed at the food. Despite being from the other side of Texas, he was still familiar with Cajun food and found it quite delectable. He was glad some things did not change.

One seated, Izuku sat at the head of the table. On either side of him flanked Lynn and then on the other side Melanie who chattered Izuku's ear off on establishing a class President as soon as possible to maintain order. Izuku promised that would happen at some point, but considering how that panned out last time, that was likely something that would just be forgotten in the story.

Before they ate, Lynn tapped Izuku's shoulder. "Mister Deku?"

"Yes, Lynn?"

Lynn have a quick glance to Leon and Skylar. The boy with the halo talked the night away with Leon not paying attention and sniffing his food. Then, Lynn turned to Izuku.

"I wanted to say sorry about what I did," Lynn said. "Everything. Crashing the car. Shouting at you. Almost killing like seven people."

"It's okay, Lynn," Izuku said. "If this is as crazy as things get, I think we can manage. You're a pretty resourceful young lady, y'know. Smart, but pretty humble. I think you'll go really far in this world. Just don't forget what really matters. Y'know, you're friends," Izuku pointed at the pair next to her. "You're family. All of this. This is what actually matters."

Izuku swung his fork in a circle to gesture at the group. Even Sam The Dog had a seat where he sat patiently next to Merle and across Sigi who glared at him.

"Do you really think I can be a hero," Lynn asked.

Izuku thought for a second back on his life. He looked out at the familiar sight before his eyes. "I sat at a table like this around five years ago. In a way, this is the exact same situation. But really, I'm just like you, Lynn. I'm just a kid starting from zero. And maybe that's what we all need. Just a chance to start over. This is your chance, and it's also mine. And I won't let you down. And as long as you stay good and try your best to make others feel a little better about their lives, you won't let me down. You are enough, Lynn. Remember that."

Lynn sniffled and looked back down at her plate. "I don't think anyone's said that to me before."

"Well, get used to it," Izuku smiled. "Cause I'm gonna say it a lot."

Lynn, with reddened eyes, grinned at her new teacher. Perhaps things wouldn't be that bad for her anymore.

"Alright," Aiden said. "Can we eat now?"

"Yeah, I'm freaking hungry," Sigi shouted.

"Bark," Sam The Dog stated.

"We will eat soon," Izuku said. "But I did want to give a moment to say grace."

"Grace?" Tao asked. "Like a religious prayer?"

"I guess to me, that may be the case," Izuku said. "I had a student who did it quite a bit, and he always told me the food was a bit better each time. Thought I could give it a try now."

"I reckon I could do that," Merle said. "Used to do that all the time down at the ranch."

"Okay, then Merle," Izuku lowered his head. "Please lead us."

"Alright," Merle said. "Well, Lord, thank you for bringing us here. Thank you for all the food you gave us. Thank you for keeping Sam healthy and for how we all acted during the challenges today. I also appreciate you making sure Ivan didn't drown in the sewer and Ayumu wasn't crushed in the landfill by garbage. Though, I'm also grateful that Mister Deku didn't die in that car crash, but I'm also glad no one else was that injured. Lord, thank you for electricity and running water. Also, thanks for keeping my hat secure on my head as this is what daddy gave me, and I'd hate to lose it. Lord, thank you for us surging in Detroit without any crazy gangs or liberals killing us on our first day, and as always, thank you for Longhorns football and the giant pot of gumbo you have gifted us. Anybody got anything else to add?"

"I'm thankful for the Packers." Aiden said.

"Oh, can I thank all my subscribers?" Skylar asked. "I passed two hundred thousand just today!"

"I think this is supposed to be for important things," Sigi said. "I like sauerkraut. Doesn't mean I should tell God about it."

"But you should," Melanie stated. "This exercise in religious evangelism is specific for stating what you are grateful for and how God should allow more of it in the world."

"Yeah, but not sauerkraut," Sigi debated.

"You can thank God for anything you like," Riley said to Sigi who frowned at her.

"I like marshmallows," Leon said. "Can I thank God for that?"

"Of course, Leon," Lynn said.

"Y'know, God's probably a busy guy," Sigi said. "You really want to take the little time you have with him to be thankful for marshmallows?"

"I like marshmallows," Leon said.

"Can I be thankful for teddy bears?" Mai asked. "I feel I haven't expressed that enough."

"I'm grateful for sleep." Ayumu said. Then, her head fell into her plate.

"I as well have quite a few things to thank God for," Melanie stated. "For example, my mom, my dad, my siblings, my friends in Toronto, poutine, my favorite Pro-Hero, who I actually met right before coming here, and also-."

"Is this a Christian thing?" Tao said. "You all know I'm Buddhist, right?"

"I mean, it's not like it's been proven God is even real, right?" Ivan shrugged with a tight smirk on his face.

"You know what?" Izuku clapped his hands. "Amen! Thank you for the grace, Merle. Let's eat."

Finally, the group started to eat the gumbo. Everyone took to it well enough, with Merle and Sam vacuuming the food into their mouths. Aiden poked away while chatting with Mai. Skylar picked at the meat careful to stay away from the carbs that may be hiding in the dish. Tao, used to spicy food, chowed down while Ivan picked up Ayumu's head to stop her from drowning in the gumbo. Skylar took a picture for his social media, while Sigi cautiously ate the strange dish. It was actually quite good.

"Y'know," Riley braved a word to Sigi. "This reminds me a lot of home."

"Home?" Sigi raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, Texas," Riley said. "Lots of Cajun down there."

"Mexican, too, right?" Sigi asked. "Lots of that in Stockton. Not much German, sadly."

"At least you have the Mexican."

"I hate Mexican," Sigi said. "It's just normal Hispanic food with hot sauce."

"Then, you haven't had it right," Riley said.

"And you have?"

"In fact, I could find a place around here," Riley said. "I'm sure there's a good Mexican place around here. A real one. That would change your mind."

Sigi stared back at Riley.

"Okay," Sigi said. "Get me some Mexican food and I'll try it."

"In fact, I can make it," Riley said. "I'll surprise you. You seem to like surprises, right?"

"I like mysteries," Sigi raked her eyes over Riley. "And most of all…I like solving them. And I won't stop until I do."

Instead of a frown, Riley surprised himself with a soft smirk aimed at Sigi. The girl was undeniably funny to look at when she tried to look angry. She reminded him of a finicky cat, and the boy almost laughed at how serious, yet unintimidating she really appeared to be.

"What?" Sigi asked.

"Nothing," Riley said. "It's just you're so full of surprises aren't you?"

"Hm," Sigi scoffed. "Just wait till the moon comes out."

Izuku smiled at his class. He remembered how his last class would meet like this, and he thought of the sweet memories often when he was ever upset or sad. They were vivid portraits of comfort that warmed him from the anxieties of everyday life. When he blinked, he saw snippets of his previous class, and the sound of the discussion sounded not unlike what he would here with them. All that was missing was the occasional shout by James and the beeping from Martel.

But this class had their own special language. Ayumu's dream state swinging around the top of the table. Riley and Sigi bickering. Melanie lecturing about Canada. Skylar's chippy voice probably narrating a livestream on his social media channels. The occasional bark from Sam The Dog with Ivan's eyes pointed in every direction eavesdropping on every conversation.

The sound, as chaotic as it reverberated over the room, was already just as precious to Izuku as an author's words were to writing his story. He was grateful to all of them. And Izuku had no problem thanking God and everybody he knew for all of them. His students. His children. His family.

Izuku took another bite of gator. As he did so, he turned to Melanie and planned to ask her what he thought of the food. Until, he peered over to her and saw a strange glint in her pocket.

"Hey, Melanie," Izuku asked. "What's that in your pocket?"

Melanie faced Izuku and then glanced down at her pocket. She gasped at the sight of the light from her pocket and grabbed it.

"Oh, yes," Melanie said. "This is a crystal that was given to me."

Izuku's smile vanished when she pulled out the ruby gem. The crystal waves over his eyes from the swinging golden chain it sat on. Izuku's heart dropped with his jaw dropping down to his chin.

"Wha-?" Izuku stammered. "Wha…where did you get that?"

"Oh, it's just a family heirloom," Melanie said with a quick tick of her tongue. "You seem kind of pale. Are you okay?"

The memories of the past few years combed through Izuku's mind. The crystal. The crystal.

The crystal.

A destroyed school. The maniacal laugh of a wizard and All For One. His students dead on the staircase. His frozen body. Unable to save them.

Blood. As red as the gem that glowed before him.

Blood everywhere.

"Mister Deku?" Melanie asked. "Is everything okay? Mister Deku? Mister Deku?"

"Professor Deku?"

Another voice. One familiar and haunting.

Izuku turned his head at a slow, tortured pace.

Right behind him, his former student known as Blake Marseilles grinned his maniacal smile with wild eyes reflecting Izuku's horrified gaze. He rebelled in the terror and waved at his old teacher unseen by all except him.

"Is everything okay?" Blake laughed.

Izuku turned back to the table. The other students were oblivious to the horror that flashed before his eyes. He stared off into the distance in horror.

"Ye-yeah," Izuku stammered. "Everything is okay."

Izuku hummed.
