Mike's pov
Today is dauntless final exam. I am invited to go watch . I am watching every year but no record shows there are any sign of divergent. This time Jason and Jennifer's record sent back pretty normal. Maybe I am wrong about them
Jeanine resign her position but I don't know why . I have to find a new secretary . A colder one . Jeanine is too warm and I don't like it
"New interviewee is here sir ." Someone knocks on the door ."Only five minutes."
"Come in." I cough
The door opens. A girl is standing at the door . She is so pretty but I don't think that she is any different with Jeanine
"I don't like her ." I wave my hand
"Sir ， I also want to do the same thing as you are doing. I want to kill all the divergent." She smirks at me
"Do you have the same goal as I am having?" I am wandering
She nods at me . I sigh with relief . Maybe she is the right person
"Sits down please." I point at the chair
She sits down in front of me . She is smiling. I bite the pen in my mouth.
"What's your name ." I narrow my eyes ."I haven't see you before."
"My name is Laura . I was always working in the lab . I also hate divergent so I want to work with you." Laura says very seriously.
"So you agree with my plans that erudite needs to dominate the government." I say
She nods at me . I am satisfy with her action
"Today go to dauntless with me and see how many divergent can you detect there . Then I will access your ability and decide whether you can be secretary or not." I stand up."Go get ready in ten minute."
"Sure sir ." Laura bowls her head and leaves the room
She is so beautiful that my heart jumps fast. I can't have any feeling for her . I am not allowed to. I also need an ambassador maybe she can be the one .
When she is ready， she wears a blue dress. I am staring at her
"Sir?" She is calling me
"Yes . I am sorry. I just a long time didn't see any pretty girl like you already ." I shake my head ."Come with me and driver will be here any minute."
"Sure sir ." Laura smiles shyly
She is blushing. When we leave the door ， someone rush toward us and hit her shoulder . She slams into the door
"Are you alright?"
My pov
Today is the final exam. The final exam will be running in the largest room in dauntless . I am not a leader so I will not watch it. Erudite will come and watch it but I will have chance to walk Jennifer and Jason into the room.
"Don't worry， I believe that they already know how to do it." Alexander tries to comfort me ."You just tell them one time that's enough."
"Sure Alex . Thank you very much." I smile at him."Is Jessica already in hospital."
"Yeah she is . Tomorrow is the time they said ." Alexander shrugs."You can go stay with her tonight if you want."
I nod at him. I watch the clock . Already 8， it will start at 8:40.
"I will go grab something to eat before I passed out." I feel dizzy."Do you want me to bring you something."
"Yeah sure ." Alexander says."Thank you so much. I will talk to Jason for his leadership."
I leave the office and Jason is walking toward here . He seems happy today.
"Morning Delia ， finally it is going to finish." Jason smiles at me
"Yeah ， today please remember to do it slower but not too slow okay?" I grab his arm
"I know Delia. I will do my best." Jason nods at me ."You are skinner than the first time I saw you."
I realize that too but I don't have a choice .
"Yeah I know it but I have no choice ." I shrug."Go and see Alexander now ."
I leave him alone and walk to the cafeteria . Elizabeth and Linda are on break today so they are there eating muffin together
"What flavour do we have today." I ask
"Banana chocolate chips." Elizabeth gives me one .
"I want two. One for Alexander as well. He likes it." I smile
Jennifer sneaks a peak from behind . She is eating an apple
"Do you want an apple too?" Jennifer hands me the apple.
"I hate apple so much. However thank you ." I shake my head
I take muffins and leave . I have to go get ready. Lyra stops me . She will do the insert today.
"Everything are already set." Lyra comforts me ."Don't be this nervous . You were not even this nervous when you were the initiate yourself ."
"I am worried because Mike will be here watching the simulation." I sigh
"You went through a truth serum already ." Lyra frowns
She doesn't know that I can resist it so she thought that I wasn't lying.
Mike's pov
I arrive at dauntless . Laura is curious about dauntless compound . Did she ever in dauntless before or not.
"You have never come here before?" I ask her
"My mom was dauntless before transfer to erudite but I never being here before ." Laura shakes her head
We walk into the compound . Alexander and Delia stand over there . Delia smiles at me
"Good morning Mike and this one?" Alexander takes out his hand
"This one is Laura . My new secretary and where is Jessica?" I smirk at Alexander
"Nice to meet you Laura." Alexander and Delia shakes her hand ."It's none of your concern. Let's go over this quickly."
Delia is quiet. Alexander is very overemotional today . Is he jealous when I asked about Jessica? How sensitive he is then. Linda and Elizabeth drag Delia away from us .
"Are they friends?" I point at them
"They were in the same initiate class so I assume that they are ." Alexander beckons to us
I and Laura follow Alexander . Alexander is eyeing Laura
"So you look familiar for some reason Laura ." Alexander giggles
"Maybe you knew my mom before she transferred . My mom's name is Corrie ." Laura nods at both of us
"I heard that name from my father but I never see her before ." Alexander says
Corrie ， well I know who she is then. She is one of my co worker.
"Before I became the leader of erudite ， I worked with your mother Laura . I didn't know that you are her daughter god ."
We walk into the big room . There is a big recline chair and computer in the middle of the room. People gathering around it . My co workers are here
"Mom?" Laura's face goes pale.
"Yes Laura ， why are you here?" Corrie opens her eyes wide.
"She is my secretary now Corrie . It's fine ." I shake my head
Laura lowers her head . Maybe her mom doesn't know it
"You never tell me that ." Corrie is angry.
"I am sorry mom. I just want to give a try." Laura lowers her head
"It's fine Corrie . I like her so let her be ." I sigh
Laura looks at me with her eyes glinting.
"Thank you sir ." Laura giggles ."You are the best."
"Well good compliment." I say
The door opens and the first initiate comes in. He is not Jason but he is Jake . Jake is one of the initiates who attacked Jason walker .
My pov
I shuffle Jake into the room. I don't walk with him . I just stand beside the door until he is into his fear . I brush my hair to my side . Laura walks toward me
"Hey." She says to me
"Hey , why are you here ." I narrow her eyes
"I am actually a spy sent from the bureau to erudite to watch mike's behaviour ." Laura smiles at me . "I am helping divergent"
I can trust that she is from there but I can't trust her that she is helping divergent
"And then?" I lift my chin
"You can tell me who the divergent are ." She leans into me
"I will not tell you. I don't even know what are you talking about Laura ." I say. "Don't you think that I will tell Mike on you."
Laura is very calm. She is breathing normally.
"I don't think so . Bureau gave me the memory serum. Even he knew that I just need to insert that into him, and then he will forget everything."Laura smirks
"Don't you think that someone can actually resist the memory serum. David also inserted me with the serum but I still remembered everything." I laugh. "So don't think memory serum is the only solution."
"How is that possible ." Laura is shocked
I point at my brain. Jake finishes his test. I leave the room
"Jason come , your turn."
I guide him into the room by putting my hand on his back
"Remember to stay in there longer." I say quietly.
"If I stay too short, they will kill me and if I stay there too long, then they will kill me too." Jason nods at me
He sits on the recline chair . Lyra comes toward him
"I want Delia to insert them. I only trust her ." Jason shivers
"Here you are ." Lyra gives me the needle
I take the needle and wipe his neck with the wipe . I insert the needle into him.
"I wish you make it Jason . Be brave ." I say kindly
He is into his fear now . I stand beside him and see him struggling through his fear . I clinch my fist. Lucas is still in there but I am his new fears .
Alexander and Mike are staring shockingly at the screen . What did they see that shocked them. Alexander looks at me for a long time . I lower my head
God did he sees that I am in his fear? That is impossible though. I can't be scary for him
