"Everyone has a story, a version that reflects who they were and who they will be."

Every person, is always influenced by their environment, something that in his opinion, should be respected regardless of the person as it is those past experiences that mark the person in who they were and who they will be in the future.

It was something I learned a long time ago.

My story is not that interesting; I was an ordinary person living in monotony.

From a young age, I was not a person who believed much in good and evil as separate concepts, I always saw them as a complement to each other, a balance.

I was always told that bad people would suffer punishment for their actions, but I had come to the conclusion that this was not the case, they were always rewarded and most of the time they did not suffer a consequence.

Although I try to follow an honest life, someone good, although I didn't think I was a saint either.

Leaving that aside, I lived my life well, or so I wanted to believe. My death was rare, it was not stupid and ridiculous.

Let me explain; I was calmly returning home, after going to play with my friends, something normal. I was about two blocks back to my house, I was crossing the street until... it just exploded.

I had died from a spontaneous explosion... something surprising, I had been the second person who had experienced that kind of death.

Where the hell am I, though?

After my death, I've been sitting in eternal darkness. I don't know how much time has passed, the conception of time I have long lost, besides, I doubted that concept existed around this place.

I have long since stopped caring about the site, also stopped asking myself questions, I was simply lost in my thoughts, while looking at a site without paying attention.

Until I felt a terrifying presence in the darkness and my body tensed up about the situation.

The darkness seemed to solidify until it seemed to take on a figure.

"You don't have to worry."

The figure said, trying to reassure me though it had little effect on me.

"Who are you?"

My voice had a husky tone to it, after a long time, I finally used it again.

"Honestly, it doesn't matter why I'm here, but, the reason you're here."

The figure said to me and I frowned.

"Did I expand?"

I heard a sigh coming from the figure.

"You're the questioning type, aren't you? Well to simplify things a lot, you could say you were chosen..."

"Why?"

"You're just someone interesting, we've noticed your potential."

The figure's words unsettled me, what were they looking for from him?

"So, if I am special, because I was here for a long time, why communicate until now and not before?"

The figure was silent for a few moments because of my question, until he finally decided to answer.

"You died too soon, boy. We expected you to be older, but in the face of the development you died in. We waited until you developed spiritually until your maturation came. Even, you must have even noticed the changes you underwent."

The figure was right, I had noticed change in my body, my once tanned skin was now pale, my body had stretched more, even with some muscle and a major change, my black hair that was curly had become straight but also somewhat wild. Something that saddened me, I liked my curly hair.

"Leaving that aside, now the important thing."

My attention returned with the figure, waiting for what he would say.

"We'll give you something important."

I felt the air suddenly leave my body, I was on my knees trying to breathe, everything was spinning, the pain was throbbing as it coursed through my body, until it finally left.

"W-what... what was... that?"

I was saying as I gasped for air and sat up in the chair with difficulty.

"You'll see, now you have to spin the roulette wheel."

I looked confused at the being, while the same way the being appeared, there was a Roulette? When I could see it better, I felt a shiver as I read the names. I admit I didn't know most of the names, but they gave me bad spines and this was confirmed when I could read Berserk and the Darksouls.

"Oh, you don't seem to want to take the initiative, let me help you."

The tone used by the figure, gave me chills, I think his tone was an amused one.

The roulette wheel spun with great speed, until it slowly slowed down.

I wanted the roulette to never stop, so I would never find out where I would go, I was honestly afraid, I did not know why I was chosen by them, who were they, was it a game for them, was it a game for them?

So many questions I asked myself, but they vanished when the roulette arrow stopped and with it my heart.

"Fear and Hungry"

"..."

"Well, the first destination is quite interesting."

Said the being, but I remained silent.

"..."

"What is the real reason I was brought here?"

I asked lost, as I felt myself being sucked in.

"Simply, for our amusement."

Said the being simply.

"An amusement...as if I were a jester for your entertainment."

I felt that fear was replaced by anger, it invaded my whole body, reason seemed absurd and disrespectful, they were simply crushing my dignity as if it were nothing.

"I think you would come to understand, if you were in our place."

That was the last thing I heard, and then everything went dark. I felt my body stretch and contract several times, felt my perception mold to something I couldn't see, until at some point, everything stopped.

I was lying on the cold grass, until I stood up. I could tell I was in what looked like; the outside of a castle. To one side were the remains of a carriage next to a dead horse, I wrinkled my nose as I noticed the putrid smell.

I looked away to stop smelling the horse, I noticed several barrels and crates, some were broken.

"Was he really in that

world?"

I couldn't help but wonder, as I knelt down. I would have been lost in my thoughts, had it not been for the howling of the wolves.

I got up and started to run.

"Eat my pants!"

I exclaimed as I saw the silhouette of a wolf through the fog and reached the main entrance.

(...)

I was sitting motionless next to the entrance, keeping my breathing calm, I am not exaggerating if I say that I felt like throwing up.

Not far from me, there was the body of a human torn from the waist down, with flesh torn all over the floor, dried blood and mosquitoes showed that it had already been in that state of putrefaction for some time.

"Quite a welcome, isn't it?"

I said to myself as I ran a hand over my face and then through my hair, I still had that heavy feeling in my stomach, if I kept this up, I was really going to throw up the contents of my bowels.

Now that I thought about it, what things did I have in my current outfit?

I felt something heavy in the two pockets of my pants and pulled them out to check what they were.

They were my cell phone and my wallet. I concentrated hard on the latter, looking at what I possessed, which honestly wasn't much. I had three $200 bills, but... to tell the truth, I don't think they were useful in this medieval world, where gold, silver and copper coins are used. Frustrated I kept it, the other thing I had was a picture of him, now that I remembered, it was before his death.

I felt a little sad, how was my family?

...

I missed them, I may not have gotten along with some of my siblings, but that didn't mean I hated them, I may have been angry with them, but I still loved them.

I kept the photo in my wallet and also kept it in my left pocket, although I was curious now how much he had changed, his complexion, height and hair had changed, but how much he had changed facially.

I turned the camera mode in my direction, certainly something had changed in my facial features, but they were minor. One of them was that my face which was somewhat round had become sharper, and my dark brown eyes had somehow become darker and lastly, there were still my dark circles under my eyes.

I sighed as I moved forward, staying too long in one place was not advisable, if I did not want to meet an enemy.

(...)

One good thing, I guess, was that I wasn't in a horror movie.

Because it wasn't like in those movies where a bunch of teenagers, who go into a haunted house with cheap flashlights that look like they bought them at the corner store.

Anyway, I moved my hand from left to right, inspecting the surroundings; broken barrels, the occasional bloodstain and ruined roads.

I was trying to look everywhere possible to find things that would be useful to me, but being careful not to run into some dungeon creature, it seemed that for the moment luck was on my side, but I knew that sooner or later I would run into one.

Now I was in a kitchen, I was sitting on a wooden chair, while on the table was everything I could find;

A green and red herb, along with some dried meat. Also a bottle of whiskey.

I hesitated whether to eat the meat, I didn't know how long it had been in that state or even what animal it was from. But because of the growing hunger, I had to admit that it looked delicious.

Maybe... just one bite wouldn't be bad.

When I did, the meat didn't taste good, but at least it took my hunger away temporarily.

-30 of hunger

What was going on?

A transparent window appeared in front of me and scared me to death.

Host, would you like to see your condition?

"..."

I had no words for what had happened, I was losing my mind.

I am offended that you consider me a hallucination of yours, I was created to guide you on your journey.

"Are you the gift of that thing?"

Yes, now. would you like to see its status?

I had given him the go-ahead, though I wasn't too sure about this "system".

Status

Name: Joseph.

Age: 17 (not stated)

Hunger: 9

Body: 100

Mind: 100

Attack: 30

Defense: 15

Attack M: 16

Defense: 14

Agility: 5

Luck: 44

I put a hand to my chin, while analyzing my stats, I guess it's not so bad my condition.

"Do you have any other sections?"

Status, Equipment, Skills, Inventory, Quest.

"Equipment."

I mumbled and another transparent screen opened up where there was a picture of me along with the equipment I was wearing.

Equipment

Jacket: Made of cotton and is black in color, it helps to keep you warm, which helps you withstand cold environments, it is easy to be torn by a sharp object, so it does not give you protection, although as it is a sentimental gift from your mother, it gives you 6 additional sanity points.

T-shirt: Made with cotton and is blue in color, the material makes the garment soft, it is very easy to be torn by a sharp object, so it does not give you protection, although it gives you 4 additional sanity points.

Pants: Made of denim, a fabric that makes the garment tough and durable, but also lightweight. It gives you 2 points of protection and 2 of agility.

Bracelet: A simple bracelet your mother made for you, it has nothing of value, but it has sentimental value to you, as it bears your name.

I guess it was to be expected, my current equipment gave much to be desired, although I was surprised that some gave me sanity points, I set as one of my goals; to look for armor, but not heavy.

"Inventory."

Inventory

Cellphone: an electronic device with touch screen and charged battery, contains some games, music and e-books, fortunately the cellphone is not so old that the battery drains quickly. It can be used to restore the mind if necessary.

Wallet: An antique wallet, made of high quality leather, when animal rights were not yet invented, it belonged to his late grandfather and was given to him as a gift. Contains: x3 $200 bills (no good for this world).

Green herb: Green herb with a bitter smell. Commonly used

to cure infections by rubbing with the herb.

Red herb: Red herb of neutral odor, restores 10 body points, can be used in herbal recipes.

Bottle of Whiskey: A bottle of aged whiskey. Helps maintain sanity, ever pressing darkness. Restores 50 mind points.

I was somewhat satisfied, the few items I got were not too bad and could be useful for later, though not for long.

"Is there something you want to tell me, system?"

I asked as another screen popped up.

Good thing I mentioned it, the gods have been merciful and let you choose one of the following classes:

Saber.

Archer.

Lancer.

Caster.

Assassin.

That's all the classes? I was supposed to assume the gods were stingy or something.

I spent a while thinking about the pros and cons of each class.

I ended up ruling out Saber, Lancer, and Assassin. Since they implied that I would be approaching enemies in a melee, if I wasn't careful, I could easily be mortally wounded, plus I had no experience with weapons, which would be even more fatal in a confrontation, I also didn't think the monsters would wait for me to learn how to use a weapon.

I was between archer and caster, both could be good in my opinion, they rely on marksmanship and could be used at long range, which would help you avoid melee.

Although after thinking about it, the bow might show a problem in the future and it was the arrows themselves, he knew they were reusable, as long as they didn't break. But to what extent would it help him, what if he ended up fighting an enemy, who had great agility or had good armor?

I ended up choosing the caster class.

Well, I just raised the hand that wasn't the dominant one.

I did what the system asked me to do, although I was not very sure. Some particles accumulated and ended up forming a book, which descended until I was only a few centimeters away from resting my hand, some vines wrapped around my hand.

"Ugh! Stop!"

I felt my hand throbbing with a lot of pain, it felt like I was pulling something out.

Don't worry, the process is over. You have been granted the following spells.

Vital Touch: A simple healing spell, helps speed up the healing factor of a body, which helps heal short and some deep wounds, cannot rebuild or reconstruct lost limbs.

Cosmic Truth: is a psychological spell, reveals to your enemies a fraction of the truth of the universe; show them how insignificant they are in comparison to the grand scheme of things. It does not work on those too dumb to understand the truth, the insane, as their minds have long since been shattered, and the enlightened, as truth is something they have always sought.

Shield Returned: A protection spell, which allows you to reflect certain damage received from the attacker, regardless of whether it is an attack or spell. It can reflect it, as long as these have the intention of damaging the user.

It is recommended not to abuse these spells, as you end up spending mind points, so it will become more and more outlandish.

"..."

I scratched my chin as I finished reading the spells. They may not have been super powerful, but they were functional after all.

The screen closed, I got up from the table and gathered my things.

Now I had to keep moving forward, even if the breath of death was near me.
