DM Jessica and The Litter Queen Chapter 2
As she slept, she had a bad dream. Jessica found herself in a palace of someone of the Litter Queen, someone who seemed to live more in a dump than a palace. There was litter and junk everywhere to be seen. The Litter Queen was sitting on her throne. She had two giant rats by her side which Jessica didn't like the look of. ''Welcome to my kingdom'' said the Litter Queen, ''You can start work right away''. ''Start work?'' gasped Jessica, ''What do you mean?''. ''Your job is to help me spread litter and junk everywhere'' replied the Litter Queen, ''There are still loads of pretty places to spoil and ruin''. She took Jessica to her litter centre. There were piles of more junk and litter everywhere Jessica looked. ''It looks horrible'' she moaned, ''And it stinks''.
''Horrible? Horrible?'' snapped the Litter Queen stamping her foot crossly, ''it's lovely. And it's time for you to get to work''. She gave Jessica a uniform to put on. ''Take a large bag and fill it with litter'' she ordered, ''You can start by making a mess of a few parks and playgrounds. If you don't do a good job. I'll be very angry''. ''I don't like this'' thought Jessica unhappily. The Litter Queen took her to a park. She told Jessica to start spreading the litter. The park looked tidy, but it was soon covered in wrappers, cans, paper, plastics, glass anything to stop it looking beautiful. Jessica didn't want to spoil the park. ''It looked good before we came'' she thought,
''But now it looks terrible!''. The Litter Queen watched Jessica. ''Come on! Come on!'' she shouted crossly, ''I want this park to look a complete mess''. Jessica wanted to throw her litter in a bin, but she was afraid of the Litter Queen. ''This is a nightmare!'' she muttered. The Litter Queen showed her a section of microlights that Jessica had seen at White Unicorn Hill. ''I use these to spread litter all the countryside. You will fly in this microlight'' said the Litter Queen. ''I don't want to'' whimpered Jessica, ''I don't want to throw litter all over the countryside''. ''How dare you!'' screamed the Litter Queen, ''Do as you're told! If you don't, I'll lock you up with my giant rats''. Jessica was so frightened of the Litter Queen that she climbed onto the microlight. ''I wish I could run away'' she thought miserably.
The microlight took off into the sky and was soon flying over the countryside. Jessica held on tight. Down below she could see fields and other wide open spaces. She could see streams and roads. She could see woods and green hills. ''The countryside looks so pretty'' thought Jessica. She saw a white shape that looked familiar. ''Oh no!'' wailed Jessica, ''That looks like White Unicorn Hill where we had our picnic. I can see the wood where Blondie cut her paw on the broken glass bottle''. The microlight began to fly lower. This was where Jessica had to drop the litter, but she didn't want to. ''I hate this!'' she thought, ''I want to go home''. Suddenly the microlight went out of control. It began to spin going round and round, faster and faster.
Jessica fell out with her bag of litter which burst open. She was falling with all the litter. Cans bottles, bags, wrappers, everything. Jessica screamed and sat up as her eyes sprang open. She found herself in her own bed, the bad dream was over. Her parents heard her hyperventilating and came in to see what was wrong. Jessica told them what she thought she had been through. ''You probably had a nightmare sweetie'' said Jillian, giving her a hug. ''It was all your imagination'' added Julius, ''There's nothing to worry about''. He kissed Jessica on the forehead and he and Jillian left Jessica to go back to sleep. When Jessica was at school on Monday the following week. She spoke to Mr Turner the school principal. ''Look at the litter'' she said, ''There are crisp packets and sweet wrappers all over the ground''.
''Yes'' agreed Mr Turner, ''But how can we stop everyone from throwing their litter on the ground?''. ''Let's do a little project'' said Jessica. Mr Turner spoke to Miss Frannie whose class picked up all the litter around the school. Then they made posters and wrote stories. Miss Frannie put the project in the Save Our Countryside competition. Her class won the competition. Jessica won a special prize for her story about the Litter Queen. An important person came to give out the prizes. ''That was a good story Jessica'' she said. ''It was a nightmare!'' said Jessica truthfully. The next time she saw Blondie she patted her on the head and said, ''Hey Blondie how's your paw?''. Blondie wagged her tail happily as if to say, ''Much better thank you''.
