"So? Do you think you're ready to face the trials for being a rider?" A strange blue and white Felyne asks the young man.
"That's a good question." Ash said.
The young man stops and checks his bag.
"What are you looking for?" Felyne questioned.
"I'm double-checking my bag to make sure I have everything I need for the trials, Cryo." Ash answered the now-named Cryo's question.
"Alright then," Cryo said.
"Hey, there, Ashy boy," an all too familiar voice said behind the duo.
Ash sighs before turning around.
"Hey, Gary." He said.
"How has it been, snow cat?" a black-furred cat asks Cryo in a female voice.
"I told you not to call me that." Cryo said.
"The trials haven't begun yet, and you're already losing your cool," the she-cat said.
Cryo growls at her.
"Ready to fail, Ashy boy?" Gary questions Ash.
"We won't fail, Gary." Ash said.
"Even if you pass your first, let's face it, it will only be a bulldrome." Gary said.
"If he's lucky enough he most likely will find Aptonoth's egg." the black-furred felyne said.
"You two don't know what you're talking about I know Ash will get something awesome!" Cryo said.
"Oh yeah, because after all he did find you the freak felyne." the black-furred felyne said.
"I'm not a freak!" Cryo shouted.
"Last time I check no felyne look like you or come close." the black-furred felyne said.
"Ash says that I'm special!" Cryo said.
"And I agree with Ash" an elderly voice said in front of the small group.
They all stand at attention.
There in front of them is Chief Oak the leader of Pallet Village.
"Hello, Chief Oak." Ash greeted.
"I'm glad to see you aren't late Ash, and Gary it seems like you still have much to learn before you are a great rider like your father." Chief Oak said to the two boys.
Ash smiled while Gary just muttered to himself.
"And while Cryo may not be a normal felyne doesn't mean he's less of one because of his difference after all if you were to have a calm mind as his you would still have your tail, Harriet." Chief Oak said to the now-named Harriet.
Harriet looks down with a scowl on her face.
"Come then others are already at the meeting hall we better hurry or else all five of us will be late." Chief Oak said as he turned around and started to walk towards the said building.
As they follow him.
In the meeting hall, the riders of Pallet Village, two of the soon-to-be riders and their felynes, and their families were waiting.
"Hey, mom." Ash said.
"Oh, my little man is growing up so fast!" Delia said as she hugged her son while crying.
"Mom, you're embarrassing me." Ash said.
"Calm Mrs. Ketchum it's not like he's getting married today." Cryo said.
"You never know." Mrs. Ketchum said.
"I would say that's a safe bet." Cryo said while pointing to Gary who is surrounded by the girls of the village around his and Ash's age.
"That Gary." Ash said.
Meanwhile, on the stage, the Riders of Pallet Village look at the interaction between Gary and the girls.
"No wonder only four make it this far!" a man with spiked blond hair, and light skin, wearing a set of Zinogre Armor said with disgust in his voice while he held his helmet in his left arm.
"Right." A girl said.
"I'm surprised you're taking it well Daisy?" a man wearing Nargacuga Blademaster Armor asks the person to his left.
"I've pretty much gotten used to it." Daisy said.
"I think what Koga meant is why didn't you give that living pile of dung you called a brother a good old wake up! let's face it all those girls want is to be a trophy wife and more outside traders to come here." the man wearing the Zinogre Armor said.
"Trust me I've tried and it hasn't worked." Daisy said.
"Then life will have to show him the truth." Koga said.
"Right." Daisy said.
"The others dodge a arrow." Koga said
"Yep." Daisy said.
The four riders know that one of them would have to pair with Gary
Soon Chief Oak was standing in front of them.
The people in the meeting hall went quiet.
"Hello everyone we are gathered here to see these 4 Riders embark on an incredible journey." Oak said.
Everyone lightly clamped
"Now, without any more waiting, let us begin." Oak said.
"The four members of the senior riders will pick which one of the soon-to-be riders and help them to find their first Monstie." Chief Oak said
Four Riders appear.
One by one the four older riders went to one of the soon-to-be riders.
"Now new riders are you ready?" one of the older riders questioned.
"Yeah." they said together.
"Then let's get started." The older rider said.
Ash was chosen by the rider who wears the Zinogre Armor.
"The name's Surge." Lt. Surge said.
"Wait didn't you train under Ash's father?" Cryo asks the man.
"Yes, I did." Surge said.
"I'm guessing you want some payback?" Ash questioned.
"Maybe." Surge said
"Oh boy." Ash said.
"Now follow me." Surge said.
Ash and Cryo did so.
'This is going to be fun.' Surge thought.
Gary wasn't happy as the senior rider who had chosen him was known as the "Man Hater!" Her Izuchi armor was a dead giveaway.
'Great I had to get her of all people.' Gary thought.
"So why do you hate men?" Harriet questioned as she follows the two humans.
Erika doesn't lesser her glares at Gary.
'Man, whatever happened, I don't want to know!' Gary and Harriet thought.
"Let's go." Erika said.
The two didn't say anything and just followed.
As they follow.
At the stables the Palicoes of the senior riders were taking care of their rider's monsties
We're here." Surge said.
"Look like I won the bet." a yellow with brown stripes felyne said to the others
"What bet?" Cryo questioned.
"Which one of the riders in training Surge will take under his wing." a white with black spots felyne said in a female voice.
"Really?" Cryo questioned.
The Palicoes nodded their heads.
"And what did you as the prize?" Cryo questioned.
"Enough Zenny to buy whatever I want when one of the traders comes." the yellow with brown stripes felyne answered.
Cryo groans in annoyance.
"Tora! you little cheat you already know who I was going to pick." Surge said to the now-named Tora.
"I didn't cheat I merely made a guess based on my knowledge of you." Tora said.
"And us talking about it last night doesn't help?" Surge said as he went to a monster with superficially lupine features. It has highly developed limbs, sharp fangs and claws. Its forelegs are extremely powerful and can kill prey in one brutal blow. Despite its hulking size. The spikes on its body mostly lie flat.
"Like I said I used my knowledge of you and Thundercracker to back me up." Tora said.
Thundercracker looks toward his rider and the Palico he points with his head towards Surge saying that he agrees with the human.
"Seriously Thundercracker?" Tora questioned.
Surge laughs at that as he grabs a large sword that appears to be made out of Thundercracker's species.
"So Surge can can begin?" Ash questioned.
"Pick a weapon." Surge said as he pointed to a wall that had fourteen weapons on it.
Ash picks up a shield and sword.
"Like father, like son." Surge said as he saw Ash had picked an Iron Sword and Shield.
"What's next?" Ash questioned.
"Hope on." Surge said as he, Tora, and Cryo got on Thundercracker's back.
As Ash does so.
Then the group of five leaves their village.
After an hour of riding they stop.
"Okay, I think that's far enough." Surge said as he got off Thundercracker.
As Ash gets off.
Then the two Palicoes get off.
"Now what?" Ash questioned.
"We need to find some tracks." Surge said.
As they start looking.
Then Ash notices a blue scale.
"I found something." He said.
Surge went over to Ash and saw what he found.
"A blue scale." Surge said.
Surge picks it up and looks at it closely.
"Wait?" he said as markings on the look like a.
"An Azure Rathalos' scale!" the senior rider said both shock and confusion.
"So that's good right?" Ash questioned.
"No! It isn't! The Azure Rathaloses aren't doing to come close to here for another three months!" Surge answered.
"Oh, then what should we do?" Ash questioned.
"We follow the trail!" Surge said while pointing to the top of the trees that the scale was pointing to.
"Alright." Ash said.
They follow the trail of damage from what they saw the monster was in a panic and badly hurt.
"What happened to it?" Ash questioned.
"It makes a crash landing." Surge answered.
As Ash stared at it.
There Azure Rathalos are large, bipedal wyverns with a spiny, armored hide covering their body. It has a long, thick tail and features a heavy spiked club at the end. Azure Rathalos' wing membranes feature ornate patterns, and all over its body were covered in wounds and a blue egg with dark blue strips lay next to it.
"Do we have a first-aid kit?" Ash questioned.
Surge check over the Azure Rathalos' wounds.
"It won't help this guy fight only other monsters but hunters well and from the looks of these wounds the gap between is small which means it took everything he had left to save his egg!" Surge said as he noticed markings that looked like a doctor's tool could made but chose to not let Ash see.
"We have to do something." Ash said.
"We take the body back to the village and you will take the egg and have the monster inside as your monstie." Surge said.
"Leaving it to die seems a little cruel." Ash said.
"It already died." Surge said as he showed Ash the monster had just after they arrived.
"Oh." Ash said sadly.
"Tora, Cyro go get a wagon." Surge told the Palicoes.
Without saying a word, the two cats leave Surge went to Ash.
"Listen Ash even if we had gotten here in time, he would have attacked us and then we might have had to put him down for good." the older man told the younger.
Ash looks down at that.
"Sorry it you had to learn it this way but that's life for ya." Surge said in a sad tone of voice.
"I see " Ash said.
"Besides this little one needs you now." Surge said as he pointed to the egg.
"Right." Ash said before picking up the egg.
Then their partners came back with a wagon.
The ride back to the village was a quiet one.
Cryo walks up to Ash and hugs him.
"Thanks pal." Ash said to his friend.
"No problem Ash." Cryo said.
When they reached their village, the group saw they were the first ones back.
"Wow, we beat them back to the village?" Ash questioned.
"You're right I don't see Koga's Kage." Surge said.
"Do you think they're okay?" Ash questioned.
"I'm sure they are fine." Surge said.
With Gary's group.
'I need to rethink my choice of weapons.' Gary thought as the other shot missed and the monster ran him over.
The monster they were battling had a face that resembled a colubrid in appearance with grayish-blue scales covering its slim squirrel-like shape. On its back are patches of white fur as well as a bushy tail covered in rows of spikes. Its front limbs also have a few spikes.
'Why did I have to get this idiot?' Erika thought.
Gary got shocked and paralyzed which gave him a goof face.
'He's going to be the death of me.' Erika thought.
She rushes at Gary grabs him and tosses him to her monstie.
"Ow." He said.
Back at Pallet Village.
"Well, should we wait for them?" Ash questioned.
"Yes, but they have smoke bombs that were designed to be used as a signaling device once one of the watchmen see it then one if not three of the riders will go and help but you can't go." Surge answered Ash's question.
"I see." Ash said.
They make their way to Chief Oak's house.
"So Ash what are you going to name the creature after it hatches?" Cryo questioned.
"I hadn't given much thought to it." Ash answered.
"I see well you should probably start mulling over names soon." Cryo said.
"I'll try." Ash said as they reached Chief Oak's house.
"Chief Oak, we're back." Surge said.
"You're back so soon, what happen?" Chief Oak questioned.
Surge explains.
"I see, then I'll see if the guild knew anything about this Azure Rathalos Meanwhile have the blacksmith check out the body helpful there's still enough material for at least a set of armor for Ash." Chief Oak said.
"Right." Surge said.
"Ash you should wait at your home until the rest returns." Chief Oak said.
"Okay." Ash said.
Ash leaves the house and heads towards his.
"So what do you think your mother is making for dinner?" Cryo questioned.
"Anything I hope you have seen how she was today." Ash answered.
"True." Cryo said.
Meanwhile in a city.
We see a figure walking down a road.
"Alright, I just have to remain calm." The figure said in a feminine voice.
The figure in question is an anthro skunk girl with mid-cut hair and wears glasses.
"Alright, Sabrina you got this." The Skunk girl now known as Sabrina said to herself.
Sabrine checks her uniform which consists of a blue coat over a dark brown vest and white shirt, brown shoes with gladiator wraps above her feet, a light brown skirt, and white knee socks.
'Alright, nothing looks out of place.' She thought.
She takes one deep breath and lets it go
"Alright let's do this." Sabrina said.
She went towards her targets.
'Okay on three.' She thought.
'One.' Sabrina started to count.
'Two.' She continued to count.
'Three!' she finishes counting.
She then jumps out.
She looks around the room.
'I didn't think this through.' Sabrina thought.
"Long time no see!" a female voice said.
Sabrina jumps at the voice.
The owner of the voice is another female skunk with a big chest and she's mainly white with tiger-like stripes and wearing Anja α Armor.
"Zig Zag?" Sabrina questioned.
"Yep, the one and only." Zig Zag answered.
"What are you doing here?" Sabrina questioned.
"Because I'm the one who will finance your expedition." Zig Zag answered.
"Come again?" Sabrina questioned.
"I had heard you try and fail to get backing from both the guild and the Scriveners for financing another one of your expeditions, then you try to have a business owner or a noble to finance this and get the same answer, so I take one quest after another so I can finance your expedition." Zig Zag answered.
"Well, thanks and all but why would you do that? This type of thing is not usually your style." Sabrina said.
"First off your my friend and I want to help you out, two you need as many hunters as you can get if the legends about humans taming monsters are true." Zig Zag answered.
"Oh and how many hunters have you managed to get?" Sabrina questioned.
"In the top ranks like me three, the rest are rookies." Zig Zag answered.
"And who are they?" Sabrina questioned.
"The rookies or the top hunters?" Zig Zag questioned.
"Rookies first, then top hunters." Sabrina said.
"I don't know them they are all fresh and hadn't made a name for themselves, but I think slept with one of their moms, as for the top I was able to talk good old Dark "Cutter" Katt to join in as Sheila "Dancer" Vixen as to the third one he just walk up to me ask to join the expedition his name is Ezio "Breaker" Bellwether." Zig Zag said.
"Of course, you slept with their mothers so they are prepared for the expedition?" Sabrina questioned.
"One, I said I think, two it's just one not all of them, and three yeah but they are hopeful we will find a new land mass." Zig Zag answered
"Whatever are they ready to head out?" Sabrina questioned.
"Yep, I make sure everyone had gotten their partying out of the way, so we don't have to deal with anyone with a hangover or Dark trying to kill someone for being to handies." Zig Zag said.
"Good and knowing you a quick question Are you planning on sleeping with any of the hunters?" Sabrina questioned.
"Maybe three of them." Zig Zag answered with a smile
"Of course let's just head out." Sabrina said.
"Hey! That shows you how much self-control I have and should you tell your roommates that you will be gone for a while." Zig Zag pointed out.
"Already doing so as my Felyne is currently home waiting for me to contact her." Sabrina said.
"My is with the others." Zig Zag said.
"Oh gosh, and she's just as much of a perv as you." Sabrina said.
"Who do you think started the party?" Zig Zag questioned.
"Let's just go before she seduces the entire party." Sabrina said.
"And about Pansy? You know Ino she will keep bug until you bring Pansy with us." Zig Zag said.
"She's coming." Sabrina said.
"And hopefully we will find Pansy's missing boyfriend what was his name froze?" Zig Zag said.
"It's Cryo." Sabrina said.
"I see well I hope we find him." Zig Zag said.
"Same but when I told Thomas about Cryo he looked like he had seen a ghost." Sabrina said.
"Huh, I wonder why?" Zig Zag questioned.
"I asked him that there was a doctor who was experimenting on Felvynes and most didn't survive, Thomas was part of the team that tried to stop the doctor but failed." Sabrina answered
"I see. So was Cryo one of them?" Zig Zag questioned.
"One of those that survive but he and some others were changed forever and hopeful he would have regained his memories." Sabrina answered.
"And if he's with a human?" Zig Zag questioned.
"What do you mean?" Sabrina questioned back
"If he's hanging out with a human." Zig Zag said.
"Hmm, I don't know." Sabrina said.
"It honestly would depend on the human right?" Zig Zag questioned.
"You took the worlds out of my mouth." Sabrina said.
"But I guess we'll just have to wait and see. " Zig Zag said.
"Yep, and you didn't pack none of your bedroom toys, did you?" Sabrina questioned.
"Nooo." Zig Zag said, looking everywhere else but Sabrina.
"How many?" Sabrina questioned as she knew Zig Zag was lying about the toys in question.
"How long will we be on this trip?" Zig Zag questioned.
"Never mind." Sabrina said that she knew this expedition may take months or possibly a year to complete.
"So we heading out or what?" Zig Zag questioned.
"Yes, we are." Sabrina said.
As they head off.
The duo exited out of the building and saw our home alive as the people went about their business.
Back with Ash.
Cryo open the door to our home.
"We're back." He said.
"Oh Ash are you okay?" Delia asked her son.
Ash explains what happened.
"I'm sorry Ash but Surge was right even if you were able to save that monster's life he would still have attack you." Delia said.
"I know." Ash said.
"At least I don't have to worry about you tonight." Delia said.
"Maybe but what should we do with the egg?" Ash questioned.
"Until the others come back you can't hatch it, so for make it a net." Delia said
"Right." Ash said.
Ash and Cryo went to the boy's room to do just that.
After an hour they were done.
They make the nest out of Ash's dirty laundry.
"All right that should do it." Cryo said.
"I hope so." Ash said as he put his egg in the nest.
"It will I got your back." Cryo said.
"Thanks pal." Ash said.
"No problem." Cryo said.
"We better read up on monsters while we still can." Ash said as he walked towards a bookshelf.
"Right." Cryo said.
The human pulls out a book.
"Alright, let's get to reading." Ash said.
Ash and Cryo sit on the floor next to the nest.
"Right, we should start with the Rathalos." Ash said.
Ash turns to the Rathalos page.
As he is reading.
Cryo looks at a pink flower that is placed in front of the window.
"Hey Ash, where did that flower come from?" Cryo questioned.
"It was the seed that was in your paw when I found you, Mom decided to grow it." Ash answered.
"I see." Cryo said.
"Why do you ask?" Ash questioned.
"Just curious." Cryo said.
"Still wondering about your past?" Ash questioned.
"Yeah.' Cryo said.
"I'm sorry none of your memories have returned yet." Ash said.
"It's fine at least I'm glad I met you." Cryo said.
"Thanks pal." Ash said.
"No problem." Cryo said.
As our hero and his cat friend read about monsters, they are unaware of what fate has in store for them as the story continues.
