The Loud Future - Lincoln and Ronnie Anne Loud

Chapter 1

Proposal

It was a normal morning. The sun was starting to rise and two lovebirds were on holiday. Their names were Lincoln Loud and Ronnie Anne Santiago. They had been dating for about 10 years and they couldn't be happier. For their 10-year anniversary of being a couple, Lincoln wanted to take his girlfriend out for the weekend. It was different from their other anniversaries because they would always just give each other a simple gift, but for an occasion like ten years together, it has to be special. And as for Lincoln, he had something particularly special in mind for this occasion. They were staying at a beach resort that was about a 15-minute drive from Great Lakes City, Ronnie Anne's home city. The main reason Lincoln chose a location close to Great Lakes City was because he had a mission to accomplish. He was here with his girlfriend for one specific goal he has been preparing for the past 6 months.

He was going to ask for Ronnie Anne's hand in marriage.

ONE MONTH BEFORE THE PROPOSAL

Lincoln and Ronnie Anne were spending some time with Ronnie Anne's father, Arturo. Lincoln, more or less, looked the same in terms of features. He was however taller, had a deeper voice, and wore an orange and white striped shirt without a buttoned collar. Every once in a while, he would wear something else, but that was his usual casual attire. Ronnie Anne, meanwhile, had developed quite a bit. She wore a purple gradient jacket that went darker to lighter from top to bottom. She also wore a red rose hairclip that Lincoln gifted him on a trip to Australia. They were just talking about the short little holiday that Lincoln was planning on taking Ronnie Anne.

"So anyways, it's only gonna be for the weekend of our anniversary. Given that we're celebrating ten years together, I only felt it was appropriate" Lincoln revealed to Arturo.

"Sounds like a good time. I wish you two the best!" Arturo replied.

"Thanks, Dad" Ronnie Anne answered.

After that, Ronnie Anne's phone started ringing.

"Excuse me a second, you two" Ronnie Anne said before picking up the call.

"Hello?... Oh hey, Sid. What's up?... Oh okay sure, I can do that… Alright, no worries… Bye."

She then hung up the phone.

"Sorry to cut this short but I need to go pick up Adelaide from school. Sid would do it but she was too busy with work, so she asked me. Don't know why she didn't ask her parents but it doesn't matter." Ronnie Anne revealed as she grabbed her purse.

"That's okay, sweetie. See you soon!" Arturo responded.

"You coming, Lincoln?"

"Actually, I was hoping Arturo would show me more of his photo albums from his travels" Lincoln responded.

"Ha ha! I knew the day would come!" Arturo exclaimed in excitement.

"Well, alright. Bye, lame-o" Ronnie Anne said before giving him a peck on the cheek.

"See ya, Ronnie" Lincoln responded.

But as soon as the door closed, Lincoln stood up with a stern but also nervous expression. This is something Arturo noticed immediately.

"Woah. You okay, Lincoln?" Arturo asked with a concerned look on his face.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that photo album thing was an excuse to talk to you in private about something important" Lincoln revealed.

"Well, I knew it was too good to be tr- Wait, something important?" Arturo went from disappointed to curious as he slowly slid his phone back into his pocket.

"Arturo, you know your daughter and I have been dating for a very, very long time?"

"Of course. I vividly remember you two telling me the news via video call."

"Right, well… do you think you can keep a secret for the next month?"

"Sure. What is this secret, Lincoln?"

Lincoln then took a long deep breath before revealing his big plan for the weekend holiday.

"I want to propose to your daughter"

There was a moment of silence. Lincoln said that pretty fast with his eyes closed. Lincoln feared that Arturo would not give him his blessing despite supporting their relationship from the start. But Lincoln needed to reveal his plans eventually, and while he has many chances to tell Ronnie Anne's mother, Maria, with Arturo, this could've been his only chance. He then opened one of his eyes to see Arturo with a shocked expression. After a few more seconds of silence, Arturo spoke up.

"You love my daughter that much?" he asked.

"M-more th-than a-anything, s-sir" Lincoln responded.

After that reply, Arturo stood up from the couch and offered Lincoln a handshake.

"Lincoln, of all the guys I would want my daughter to marry, I'm happy you are the one who wants to ask for her hand in marriage. You have my blessing"

Needless to say, Lincoln was smiling like crazy at that response. He then accepted the handshake only for Arturo to pull him into a bone-crushing hug, which Lincoln quickly returned. After pulling apart, Arturo had another question to ask.

"Does anybody else know that you're doing this?"

"Just my parents. My dad was so excited that I finally had the courage to do this, and my mom was the one who could not stop sobbing. It's usually my dad who gets emotional easily." Lincoln answered.

"I knew it was him crying uncontrollably at Lori and Bobby's wedding," Arturo said which made the two men laugh.

"All I need to do now before me and Ronnie Anne leave is to tell Maria. But after telling you, I know I can do it!"

"I know you can, boy!"

After that day, Lincoln's confidence was higher. He was fine when he told his parents, but when it came to his girlfriend's parents, he was nervous. But after getting Arturo's approval, he felt better about his fears and was ready to properly overcome them. The next day, he was gonna ask for Maria's blessing.

The next day eventually came and Lincoln had arranged to meet Maria at a café. He had told Maria that he had something important to ask and Maria wanted him to ask at a café. So they met for some coffee and despite Lincoln being more confident after receiving Arturo's blessing, he still felt nervous. But at this point, it was now or never. Ronnie Anne knew that Lincoln was with her mother, but Maria always liked Lincoln, even before he was her daughter's boyfriend, so Ronnie Anne didn't have a problem with it. They eventually met up, ordered some espressos, and sat down to wait.

"So Ronnie Anne told me you're a magician. How's that going" Maria asked.

"It's going great. It's only part-time because my main focus is still on my webcomic which is doing pretty well." Lincoln responded. As a kid, he always wanted to be a magician. But as he got older, he feared that it wouldn't exactly make him enough of a living. But when he made a webcomic of his own, inspired by his experiences with his sisters, he noticed that people online were reading it. And since Lincoln had fun doing it, he continued and eventually was able to have enough supporters to help him be financially stable. He still enjoyed magic though, and he even got a few gigs at some parties.

"That's nice. What's your comic about?" Maria asked.

"It's actually inspired by my sisters. I just changed their names and made them rabbits instead of humans. I even had a little help from some of my sisters, Lucy especially." Lincoln answered.

"I think it's amazing that you get along so well with your family that they help out sometimes."

"It is"

Their coffees arrived and after a few minutes of talking and drinking, Lincoln finally spoke up.

"So, Maria. I mentioned that there was something important I wanted to talk to you about."

"Yes. I remember now. What is it, Lincoln?"

This was it. This was the last person he wanted their blessing for. It was now or never.

"Maria… with your permission… I would like to marry your daughter… I already got Arturo's approval, but I also wanted yours too."

Lincoln was looking down at his coffee as he said that. He was expecting a reaction like he got with Arturo, but he was still surprised when he looked up and saw Maria with her hands over her mouth.

"Lincoln… can I tell you something?" Maria said as it looked like she was about to tear up.

"What is it?" Lincoln responded.

"My mother's dying wish was that both of her grandkids would get married at some point in their lives. I was happy enough that Bobby ended up marrying Lori, but I was so scared that Ronnie Anne wouldn't do the same despite being with you. What you are doing only doubts that fear I've had. Rosa always wanted you to marry Ronnie Anne because there was no one else that made Ronnie Anne happier"

Lincoln didn't know how to respond to something like that. He missed Rosa as much as a lot of people did. But hearing that Rosa wanted Lincoln to marry Ronnie Anne eventually as her wish before her unfortunate passing was something he was not ready to hear. To the point that he was starting to cry himself.

"W-wow, I uh… I hadn't expected that. I… wow…" That was all he could say before he had his hands over his mouth just before he was letting his tears leak out. He even got up from his seat and left the café in a hurry so that no one could hear his breakdown. Maria followed him outside and she found him silently sobbing in front of his car. She then gave Lincoln a long, strong hug before telling him four words.

"You have my blessing"

ONE DAY BEFORE THE PROPOSAL

Lincoln was walking around the shops that the resort provided while Ronnie Anne stayed behind at the cabin. He read that there was a jewellery shop so he walked over there. Tomorrow afternoon, the couple were returning to Great Lakes City, so Lincoln had the idea to propose in the morning. Lincoln looked at the shop's website and noticed a ring that he knew was perfect. Arturo helped Lincoln figure out Ronnie Anne's ring size and this particular ring was that exact size. He eventually made it to the shop where he was greeted by the owner.

"Good evening, sir"

"Hi. I'm looking for this engagement ring." Lincoln said while showing him a photo of the ring he took on his phone.

"Ah yes. Let me show you"

The store owner then crouched down to reach a black box and opened it to show Lincoln. It looked just like the photo and Lincoln was so happy to see it.

"It's perfect," Lincoln said before paying for it. He put the box which contained the ring inside in his pocket. Just as he was about to leave, the store owner stopped him.

"Hey, kid"

"Yes, sir?"

"I wish you good luck"

Lincoln smiled as he responded: "Thank you"

PRESENT DAY

Ronnie Anne woke up only to notice Lincoln not in the bed with her. She assumed he was already awake and probably having breakfast. But when she entered the kitchen, he wasn't there either. Ronnie Anne was confused but decided to eat something before finding him. After making herself toast with orange juice, she looked at the beach the cabin was connected to and saw Lincoln simply standing there, looking at the waves crashing. She felt like joining him so after she finished her food and changed into her normal clothes, she went outside to join him.

"Hey, Linky!" Ronnie Anne shouted.

"Hey, babe! Did you sleep well?" Lincoln asked.

"Any sleep with you by my side is always good" Ronnie Anne responded before connecting her lips with Lincoln's. They held the kiss for a few seconds before parting lips. And at that moment, Lincoln spoke up.

"Hey, I'm really glad you're here on the beach with me"

"Yeah? Why's that? I saw you from the window so I had to come over"

"Ronnie Anne. Do you remember the day we became girlfriend and boyfriend?"

"Of course, it was exactly ten years ago today! It feels like yesterday, to be honest."

"Well to mark this special anniversary, I wrote a speech. This may seem corny, but for my sake, do you think you can get through it?"

Ronnie Anne chuckled before responding.

"Sure, lame-o"

And right away, Lincoln took out a piece of paper and started talking.

"Ronnie Anne, I am so happy we were able to spend this long together and despite being hours away for a few years, we found a way to always make it work. Before we started dating, I was against the idea of us being a couple because of how stupid my friends would be teasing me about it earlier. But as we spent time together that very summer, something about you changed my mind and suddenly, I fell in love all over again. Realising that you had mutual feelings turned an awkward situation into a night of asking you out. And when you said yes to the date, and later to being my girlfriend, a part of me was no longer empty and I couldn't be more happy."

Ronnie Anne was agreeing with Lincoln on how corny this speech was, but she didn't want him to stop.

"As we continued dating, our love got stronger and despite the many ups and downs, we came across those and eventually, I was able to find a place near the city for the sake of being with you. We were able to do anything we wanted up to that point and all I've wanted was to continue being your boyfriend."

Lincoln looked at the final portion of the speech and the more he looked at it, the more emotional he got that he was this close to achieving his goal. So he refolded his paper and put it back in his pocket.

"I am happy that I found someone like you, Ronnie Anne"

Ronnie Anne at this point was tearing up at his words.

"Someone I could go to to vent about my troubles and worries and receive the right comfort. Some who care about me enough to support any decision and chance I made to be the person I am today… someone… that I want to spend the rest of my life with forever"

Right after Lincoln said that he got down on one knee pulled out the box with the ring and opened it revealing a golden ring with purple swirly lines, rose engraving which were painted red, and a flat diamond middle at the top. The moment Ronnie Anne saw Lincoln kneeling she immediately knew what was going on but when she saw the ring, she gasped as she put her hands over her mouth with tears leaking out. Then, the question was asked.

"Ronnie Anne Santiago, will you marry me?"

Ronnie Anne could not believe her eyes. The love of her life for the past ten years is asking to be his wife. She started to cry for real but still had the strength to give Lincoln an answer.

"Yes! Yes, I'll marry you, Lincoln Loud!"

And just like that, Lincoln's mission was complete. He proposed to his girlfriend and she said yes. He was at a loss for words. All he could do was take the ring out of the box, hold his hand out for Ronnie Anne to grab, and slide the ring onto her finger perfectly. As soon as he got up, Ronnie Anne tackled him into the strongest hug ever known to man and the couple spun around. She then kissed Lincoln for way longer than normal and only pulled away when they had to breathe. But it was official. The couple was engaged and now had a wedding to organise.

"I love you, Ronnie Anne," Lincoln told his fiancée.

"I love you too, Lincoln" Ronnie Anne responded to her fiancé.
