Chapter two – ACCIDENT
Stella was sitting outside of her house, thinking about where her friend might be. She opened her notes on her phone and started to write where the hell Musa could have been right now so she wouldn't have to kill her. While she was listing the excuses, a red Vespa stopped in front of her.
"Ah, Stella darling," said Musa while she was trying not to laugh at the face Stella was making.
Stella scoffed and got up from the bench without forgetting to add "Shut up." to Musa's mockery. "Where the hell have you been? And I was thinking I'm late. No. You. Are." Her tone dropped with every word she said. She then showed her the list so Musa could pick the excuse for the day that would save her from being dead and Stella from being a murderer.
"My phone died so I had to wait a little until it powered on. Having an iPhone, you know how it is."
"That's not an excuse, pick one from the list." Stella kept giving Musa her phone so she could look at the list. Both started to laugh, then stopped immediately, realizing how crazy late they were. "Tecna is going to kill us. You keep that list for yourself."
Stella gulped but didn't say anything. She couldn't be early even if she wanted to. Her friend was always late and she was her ride to school. In fact, her parents got Stella a Jeep that was actually her dream, but she was going to high school! She might be popular for beauty and intelligence, but she would never want the popularity that comes from money and stuff she owned. Also, she loves speed. The area she lives in would not allow speed at all. So losing her driver's license is a no for her. Besides, Musa's Vespa and a good time with her friend is more positive for her than the other choices.
"Wow, what's going on here?"
Musa's words cut through Stella's thoughts like a knife. "Huh?"
After Musa stopped and both of the girls took off their helmets, they started to analyze the road that held the image of a terrible accident. "Oh my god, this looks terrible. Should we call someone?" Stella was talking to Musa but she was deep in thought, couldn't even hear her.
"Muse?" Stella kneeled next to her, not knowing what to do or how to act. Musa was staring at a helmet that had the initial R on it. "Don't scare me, I'll jump on you until you sing. Talk to me, what is it?" Musa let out a shaking breath and after finally finding her own voice she looked at Stella saying, "I know this helmet. I mean I know who it belongs to."
"Is it someone you're close with?" Stella wasn't sure what to say at this point, she was sure that whoever this helmet belongs to, it must be so important for Musa. Her eyes were teary and Musa is not that type of a girl who easily lets her feelings out. What's happening right now with her eyes, last time happened when her mom was sick and everyone was saying she was going to die. Again, even then Musa hardly cried. She did cry when she was alone but never when someone who can see her was there. Winx is not just anyone for them, they have a strong bond and crying is not a weakness when they are with each other. But the atmosphere is not allowing her to cry easily. It's open and anyone can just come and see her.
"Close? No, no, I wouldn't say so. But... I don't know."
Stella was confused but didn't let her friend go, she helped her get up and seated her on the Vespa. While she was giving Musa water from her bag, she mentioned that they have to call the police to inform about the accident. There were so many objects around that they can't be sure what really happened here. There was a bike that looks like it was burned and the helmet that Musa found was still lying on the floor where they first saw it. Other than that, the objects that they can't even describe what they are, Musa said must be some of the parts of the bike. Both of the girls looked pale. The roadway had some dark red spots on it that actually looked like blood. They finally called the police to inform and were told not to move anywhere before they got there.
"Oh god." Musa murmured. "I'm losing my mind."
"Don't say that, Muse. If you say that you know this R, why don't you give a call? Maybe someone stole it and nothing bad happened to whoever it is."
Musa closed her eyes with her hands for a second and started to think. How on earth is she going to call him? She hates him. But hate is worthless right now. She wanted to be sure he's safe. Alive as a matter of fact.
"I don't know, Stell."
"What's not to know? We called the police and now we are waiting. So to shut your bad thoughts down, you have to try it. Besides, who on earth is this R? I don't remember you mentioning anyone."
Musa couldn't really look at Stella, she spoke so softly that Stella had to lean in a bit so she can hear her. "He is a guy I once met."
Stella narrowed her eyes at her, her foot suddenly tapping. "A guy?"
"Don't look at me like that. He is a guy I know from the bike races."
Now Stella was definitely mad. "You went there? Again?" There was it. The protective look and sound. She hated when Musa went to races, alone. She loves them as much as Musa and Aisha do. But every time they go there, the unexpected happens and they get hurt. Seriously hurt. Because there's always a fight.
"Just once. I mean once after I told you I won't."
"You promised, Musa. You didn't tell, you promised to me that you were never going there again. ALONE."
Musa bit her lower lip so she doesn't say anything. She remembered how sad Stella was when she saw Musa got injured the last time they went there. It was blood everywhere. There was this thing that Musa didn't want to go after her promise either. She was forced to go.
"I'm sorry, Stell. I really am."
No matter what she said, Stella knew that there's no point to it. What happened already happened. There's no turning back. Right now Musa needs her and she has to be understanding, calm, and a good friend for her.
"If you feel sorry, I don't have to push you anymore right now. Tell me about this guy. What is he to you?"
Musa was about to talk when they heard the sirens. She knew there was more to this conversation, Stella would never leave it behind. And after the girls find out… Oh boy.
The girls were waiting for Stella and Musa in the parking lot. They had talked to them on the phone and were worried sick. Tecna deleted the list of excuses she had written for them. She just wanted to know her friends were okay. Even though there was nothing to panic and worry about in their situation, it wasn't an everyday occurrence.
When the girls arrived, both of them looked too tired to even speak. Musa let herself onto the bench and was just staring at her phone, while Stella was looking at her, recounting the events to the girls, leaving out the details about 'R' and the race. She needed to know the story first, and then Musa could decide whether or not to share.
