Yep, another attempt at a Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion fanfic. This time, it's going to be finished, promise. I plan on using the main specimens in the game when I can, but as for others, they will be cameo appearances from other franchises, so this time, I will correctly label this fanfic as a crossover of this game and misc x-overs.
Regardless, the cameos will be kept as minimal as possible, expect only the absolute scariest or least-interesting of the specimens to be replaced with other ones. I plan to make them as similar as I can when I do switch them.
With this out of the way, main OC is called Mathias Weightman, let's begin.
It was the same dream over and over again. I was playing that dreadfully scary/not scary game called Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion, and it was always at the start of the mansion. And it was to the point that I even saw the mansion on the exterior before going within... but it all felt way too real, even to the point that every single creature in the mansion was real-life equivalent as opposed to the visuals in the game.
And every time I got killed by the managerie of monsters, I woke up with a jolt in my bed, me looking around and groaning when I realized that I was coated in sweat when I woke up.
It had been like this ever since I went through the grueling process of getting the platinum for Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion - or Spooky's House of Jumpscares if you were around for its beginning - and it had been happening nearly every single night. The worst of said achievements for the game was to encounter each of the specimens at least one time each in the game's endless mode, which was the worst when it had over 30 monsters with the latest update of the Dollhouse DLC and my PS4 decided to reset the counter after I only had 2 left to go prior to the update!
It took me nearly 2 years to get to that point in the first place, then, through pure luck, I managed to get the achievement in one go when I went through a nearly-flawless run with a roll so crazy, it almost felt like the game was apologizing to me for it! Still, having to deal with the anxiety of multiple monsters chasing me at once, especially with the added buffs given to 8, 13, and 5 made it way too agitating when the combos happened. And wouldn't you think it hilarious that the last one on the list was Otto the Otter? That felt like a middle finger, since my very first roll in that run was White Face!
Rant over, I simply got out of bed and went to the fridge to get some water, flipping on the television to try and catch some news stories, as it was 7 in the morning as of now. And then, out of nowhere, the story shifted.
"Recent events have been brought to light that a list of numerous disappearances may all be linked to a certain underground society that operates at 34 Diablo Drive," the newscaster said as she then showed a picture of a house... no, it wasn't a house. I nearly spat my drink all over the counter when I saw the shape, the dark colors, the creepy aura, the height, width, and general structure... there was absolutely no mistaking it!
"It can't be... is that... no, I'm not crazy, this isn't real," I said, trying to get back to normalcy. Maybe this was a dream?
"According to reports, anyone who enters this mansion has never come back out, and the exterior is completely impervious to any and all damage, just watch," she said as a random set of army men were then shown attacking the side with a giant tank blast! And it didn't even leave a scratch! "We urge any and all people to stay away from this building, as it is said to be home to a dangerous force. Anyone caught at the scene will be promptly captured and arrested for their own safety," she said, me frowning at that as I then saw that the place wasn't really too regulated. Sure, a few army people were there, but they looked pretty lax.
"Maybe... if this is actually real... hmm..." I frowned as I then inspected myself in the mirror nearby. I wasn't the best when it came to athletics, but I'd been one of the few that had platinumed the entire game, gotten to know every minute detail of it, and had managed to get to a large amount of rooms in Endless Mode with my pure luck alone! But I did know that I had to do something else if I wanted to dare to go through this decision.
"If I'm going through with this... I need to make absolutely sure that this isn't a dream," I frowned as I then went to the computer and tried to search for anything relating to news stories about the mansion that was shown on the television... and after a few pages of search results, I managed to find a lot of confidential documents that were by a company called Ghost Leeker Labs, which was a secret lab that tried to study the paranormal and was mocked for doing so. And after they were brought under new management, the company kept quiet shortly after.
"Ghost Leeker, GL Labs... yep, I am not crazy, this is all real..." I gawked as I then saw that the mansion in question was about a 20 minute drive away and it was going to be a good 5 minutes to walk there from the bottom of the hill.
"Welp, if I'm going to fit in, I gotta fit in well," I said as I then grabbed something that I had on me since my father had passed away. His old army uniform, which I saw fit me perfectly and, lo and behold, he had nearly every single stripe, so I knew I could fool the army men when going there! I simply grabbed stuff I could fit in my pockets such as some snacks, juice pouches, and a few random items that could probably assist with some of the more reasonable of the monsters like a sock puppet (Ben), a megaphone (Siren), and a katana that I'd gotten from my great grandparents in their will.
"Okay, just gotta make sure the sword is hidden in the uniform and I'll be ready," I said as I then got my items together and proceeded to drive my way to the location.
...
I was appalled by how horribly the army people were at their jobs, as none of them even looked at me or at the front entrance as I walked towards it. I then simply opened the door, and nobody saw me as I then closed it without a sound... and then, I saw I was in the beginning room of the game, it looking quite homely. But I knew I had to keep moving side to side, just in case of a certain red skull that wanted to attack me for standing still. And then, the woman of the hour appeared... and as expected, she was partially see-through and was in a more realistic look, almost what you'd expect a little girl to look like if they were blue.
"Hello, I am-" she was about to say before I spoke up.
"You're Spooky, occupation: war tyrant that wants to rule the world with a ghost army. Brought back to life by your father. Wrong on any of that?" I asked. I knew it was a danger to speak all of this out in the open, but I wanted to think that this little girl could be reasoned with. But, as I expected, she looked a bit angered by my words.
"Hmph, and how did you know all of that? No one is supposed to know that stuff, so how?" she huffed with an angry face.
"Simple. You ever heard of a game called Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion?" I asked, that making the ghost girl look at me in annoyance.
"No, but I'm starting to think that I should look into that. And why tell me this when I could kill you for all of that?" she asked, me frowning at her.
"I don't know if you noticed, Spooky, if that even is your real name, but you're a ghost, completely intangible. You couldn't touch me even if you-" I was about to finish before she then rushed down to me and, shocking me greatly, she grabbed me by the collar and lifted me off the ground, me gasping at how much strength she had! "-T-Tried?!" I gawked when this happened... but then, I gasped as something else happened. Her finger slipped off the collar and touched my throat... and not only did it connect, but when it did? Both of us gasped as we fell down to the ground... wait... Spooky fell?!
"Wh-What just happ- HHHHGGGH! I... I need to... w-why do I need to breathe?" she asked as I then looked at her... and realized exactly why she had to do so. It was impossible, but it had become possible! Spooky was no longer a ghost... she was now alive again, and right next to me!
"What... in the high heaven hell... just happened?" I asked, completely flabbergasted at this turn of events.
"I... I need to get out of here!" Spooky shouted as she then tried to leave through the front entrance before then shouting in anger. "ARGH! Why did I have to make the doors unable to escape from?! Of all the... UGH!" she shouted as I simply smirked at this. She was now just as trapped in this mansion as I was, and she needed to also survive the numerous monsters that she'd aligned herself with.
"Well, well, well," I said as Spooky then backed up to the door with concern. And it was well-deserved, as I towered over her at 5 foot 8 while Spooky was about the size of an 8-year-old. "Looks like we need to stick together in order to get out of here. I believe that we have to go through almost a thousand rooms, the hospital beneath the main mansion, and your old house at the bottom, right?" I asked. And when I said that, Spooky gasped before then looking at me in shock.
"How... How much did you know about all of this? Not even I remembered about the hospital..." she gawked.
"I spent nearly 2 years trying to do everything in that game. I know of what to expect, but I'm going to need a full list of what we need to evade on our way to the bottom so we can get out of here in one piece," I said, Spooky pouting at me as she folded her arms. "Oh, by the way, according to the game, standing still for more than 2 minutes will lure number 9 to our location, so you only have 10 more seconds," I said, which made Spooky look at me with a frown.
"What are you going on about? Specimen 9 doesn't do that. She lays in wait at room 510," she said, me looking at her in confusion.
"Um... she? This is the point where you share what we are going to be going up against, little lady," I said, her then finally getting up and simply walking with me through the first door and, lo and behold, the very first room was a computer room door, where she then went to it and typed in a very long and complicated password before she showed off the full list of known specimens that we'd be facing... and of the lot, I saw that there were a few that were much different than the originals. Of the different ones were specimens 2, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, and then Unknown Specimens 1, and 3! Also, of the lot, Otto the Otter was completely MIA, as room 955 was where we'd encounter the final specimen hurdle, that being Lisa.
"O-Okay... um... so it looks like of the lot, the ones that are different are these ones," I said as I pointed each one out and explained them.
"2 used to be Goop, but now it's Slimegirl from Shantae.
5 used to be Bab, but now it's... Delirium from Binding of Isaac.
9 used to be the Taker and the only boss of the game... and now it's uh... who?" I asked, seeing that the creature wasn't one that I recognized. It looked like a female demon that actually looked quite hot, but also dangerous, as she had at least five horns on her head that were coated in jagged spikes, and she was the casual red color of skin.
"That is Nevermore, a demoness that uses ambush tactics to attack. If you break eye contact with her, she'll teleport to another part of the room to get a better shot at you. She's effective against those that are impatient and try to escape, expecting her to not do such a thing after dealing with Ben," she said, me nodding at her after. Note to self, look the demoness in the eyes or I'd get ambushed from behind.
"Okay... 10 used to be a parasite that overtook a host, but now it's... Chara from Undertale," I frowned, wondering if this Chara would be the one who saw genocide or if it were an alternate Undertale-verse version.
"11 used to be the Food Demon, and now it's Mr. Huggles from Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia... wow, that is lame..."
"Lame, but effective. He's very fast and can cover a lot of distance fast, but he has to wait a bit for turns, as he gives it his all in the chases," Spooky frowned.
"12 used to be a paranormal mansion, kind of like the Shining... and now it's just a swarm of Bugnsax that try to feed themselves down your throat... how?"
"The queen is the true threat, but she can't be eaten as she's way too big. It's called Cheddabordle Rex," Spooky said.
"And the location of Cheddabordle Rex?"
"In the very very VERY bottom of the mansion. It prefers to stay in the deepest part underground, but it sends all of its offspring to that room, as that's what I set it up as. A large amount of tube networks to summon her Bugnsax," Spooky explained.
"Gotcha, so not likely to defeat," I frowned. Maybe it was one of the ones I could summon for the Hellchase. "Ahem, Unknown 1 used to be my least favorite because it scared the shit out of me, White Face. And this time, it seems it's something even worse, that being Bendy the Demon from Bendy and the Ink Machine."
"Why is Bendy more frightening than a disembodied face?" Spooky asked.
"Because Bendy is practically unbeatable, as he's made of ink from head to toe and he can just reform from any damage dealt to him... oh, and his game is pretty scary as well, but it also has the worst thing imaginable... game-breaking glitches!" I said with a bit of drama, which made Spooky sigh.
"I already don't like you and now you're making me think less of you," she pouted.
"Ahem... and finally, Unknown 3 used to be a parasite called Spooper that would drain your health with released spores... now it's Filia and Samson from Skullgirls... question, what's scary about that?" I frowned.
"You want scary? Try and say anything to that duo and Samson will try and skewer you like a shish kebab. And that freaky hair can attack from a distance, the only specimen able to do so," Spooky said... y'know what, I'm tired of writing Spooky nonstop, I had to ask the important question!
"Is your name really Spooky? Or is that not something you want to share?" I asked, her frowning at that.
"Might as well not call me Spooky when I'm not... well, spooky... call me Bella. That was my name before everything happened," she pouted.
"And my name is Mathias Weightman. Now let's get out of here, and maybe, just maybe, we can get some friends on our side in here," I smirked.
"What? You expect some of the specimens to be kind to us? They hate me even more than they'll hate you! We're going to be dead very quickly in here," Spooky said.
"And that's exactly why I have the sword on my person, Bella. For any of the corporeal enemies that try to hurt us, I have some defense."
"Smart, but you're playing with fire," she frowned. "Let's just get started, I can only change the layout on my own a scant few times, and never when we find a specimen room."
"Even then, that's still something that can be useful in the future," I smirked back as we then finally disembarked through the first few floors... and if this was going to be my death bed, especially considering what we might find in the hospital and beyond, this is my obituary. Tell everyone that I died trying to be a hero and sparing a horrible person.
