Kela picked out a somewhat easy monster. An Arzuros, a Fanged Beast. Normally, they were known for their fishing and collecting honey, this was seen attacking fishers and travelers. It's gotten so bad, that the Hunter Guild was asked to deal with it. You made sure to have everything you needed. Potions, meat, and anything else you might want. You grab your weapon of choice for this hunt, a Long Sword. Just as you stood up, a Thunderbug floated around you. You watch it as it seems to be interested with you before it flies out your window. You couldn't shake the feeling that you were being watched but had no time to think about it.
"Hey, Partner! You ready!?"
You hear Kela's voice, telling you that she is ready to go as well. You step out of your home and notice that she is carrying a Heavy Blowgun.
"So, ready to step outside the village?" She asked, looking excited.
You nod. It has been ten years since you last stepped beyond those gates. The last time you were almost attacked and saved by two different monsters. However, this time was different. You were a hunter, a person who no longer feared those beasts. Both you and Kela walked up to the gates with Kela holding out her mission request.
"We're hunting the Arzuros that's attacking people." She said to the guard.
The guard nodded and opened the gate. You both step outside before the gates shut. You walked a bit farther, stopping at the spot where you saw a Zinogre for the first time. You looked around, trying to see if any monster was hiding close by. So far, nothing.
"Partner? Are you okay?" Kela asked, recalling the same story.
You face her and nod. However, you looked into the forest again, still feeling that something was watching you. But you had a hunt to do. Both you and Kela ran into the forest, not seeing a huge claw that moved away.
Later,
Kela was checking out the footprint she found as you kept an eye out for any smaller monsters. Even small monsters were dangerous if a hunter let their guard down.
"Yep! It's an Arzuros's footprint." Kela said, getting up.
"From what I can tell, it's heading this way." She added, making you nod.
You both started to follow the tracks, keeping a lookout for any other monster. If there was one lesson you learned long ago, there was never just one monster roaming around these parts.
However, you seem to notice that a lot of Thunderbugs have been flying around, warning you that a Zingore was nearby. So far, it hasn't shown itself. Kela then spots the same footprint, heading in a different direction.
"It moved. But, why?" She asked, confused.
He stepped up and looked at her. Kela nods, knowing what you are thinking. You both rush through the forest, looking for the Arzuros that you're hunting. You both soon came to a clearing that looked to be piled with half-eaten fish, and some hives of honey. It looks like you found the Arzuros feeding grounds.
"Wait, I thought Arzuros ate their food on the spot?" Kela asked, confused.
You looked around, finding this odd as well. And yet, you couldn't shake something was wrong. You then heard something and quickly turned to see the Arzuros standing near the feeding grounds. Kela notices too and both of you stood ready. The Arzuros stands on its back legs and roars. You knew what it was trying to do but it didn't work. When it saw that, it got down and charged at you both.
Both you and Kela jump to the sides to dodge before pulling out your weapons. Kela fires a sticky bomb at the Arzuros, that blew up a few seconds later. It dazes the Arzuros enough for you to get close and slash it with your long sword. Since the Arzuros was a lot stronger, the blow did some damage but not enough to kill it.
It roars and tries to swipe you, but you already jumped back as Kela fires normal rounds. The Arzuros turns to her and charges again. Kela dodged and stood ready, only for the Arzuros to turn and charge at her again. She was caught off guard as the Arzuros batted her away with its head. You quickly ran up to the Arzuros and slashed it again. It was enough to make it turn to you, giving Kela the time she needed to recover. The Arzuros started to attack you, but you were one step ahead of it.
Kela fires another shot, knocking the Arzuros off its feet as she sends a nod toward you. You nod back and got ready to finish it off. Before you could, a loud roar was heard.
"What was that?" Kela asked, looking around.
"Look up."
You did and spot another monster. A Rathalos! But was this one doing here?!
It roars again before shooting a huge fireball that hits the Arzuros. Both you and Kela covered yourselves from the heat before seeing the Arzuros fall to the ground, slayed by the attack.
However, the Rathalos soon land on the ground, roaring at you both.
"Partner! Remember what our Elder said!" Kela shouted.
You nod, knowing this was out of your league. Both you and Kela started to run, causing the Rathalos to chase after you. You both make it into the forest, but the Rathalos didn't stop. It tore through them, sending one to block your path.
"Partner!" Kela shouted, seeing the tree cutting your path.
You turned around to see the Rathalos walking up to you, growling. You had to get away, but how? Suddenly, Thunderbugs started flying around you before heading off. Both you and the Rathalos turned to see something walking up. Once it was close enough, you saw it was a Zinogre! As you recall, both Zinogre and Rathalos were not friendly toward each other. The Rathalos roars at the Zinogre, which roars back. Before you knew it, a turf war broke out. The two monsters fought as Kela climbed over the fallen tree.
"Whoa!" She said, seeing the two monsters fight.
You, on the other hand, knew it was time to leave before getting Kela's attention. She nodded and held her hand down. You grabbed it and started to climb up the tree. However, the Rathalos notices you and knocks the Zinogre away. It then turns and throws a huge fireball. It hits the tree, blasting it apart and sending both of you flying. You hit the ground hard and rolled for a bit. You shook your head, trying to clear the stars you were seeing. By the time you did, you noticed a huge claw in front of you.
You looked up to see the Rathalos in front of you, getting ready to attack. However, it was knocked away by a tail and sent crashing into the forest. You looked up and saw the Zingore looking down at you. Your eyes widen when you remember this Zinogre. It was the same one that saved you ten years ago.
"Monster Born, use my power."
You heard the voice again before you felt something hurting your body. Before your very eyes, the Zinogre broke into light pieces and soon fused into your body. The pain greatly increases and you scream before blacking out.
Kela's POV
I groaned as I stood up. I was knocked away from my friend and I had to get back. I then heard my friend scream and grew worried.
"PARTNER!" I scream, rushing to the area.
When I got there, I was shocked at what she saw. There, standing in a clearing, was what looked to be a Zinogre, but it looked more human.
"Partner?" I asked, making the strange Zinogre turn to me.
A roar broke its attention and I saw the Rathalos charging at us again. I drew my Heavy Blowgun, ready to defend myself. However, the human Zinogre steps in front of me, looking ready to fight. The Rathalos roars again and the Human Zinogre throws up its claw. To my surprise, it not only caught the Rathalos, but stopped it too!
It roars getting ready to fire its fire breath, but the Human Zinogre knocks it back with a powerful shock. It was powerful enough to send the Rathalos back a few feet. I watch as the Human Zingore lowers its claw/hand before roaring itself. Soon enters it Charge stage and charges at the Rathalos. It notices it and charges back.
However, since the Human Zinogre was human size, it was also quicker. The Rathalos tried to attack it, but the Human Zinogre dodged each swing of its tail and the bite of its jaws. However, the smaller size didn't lose its power. After dodging another bite, the Human Zinogre swings its claws. I heard (and felt) the blow to the Rathalos's face. It also looked surprised before the Human Zinogre spun around and smacked it away with its tail. The Rathalos crash onto the ground as Human Zinogre rises its claw, readying a move I read about.
It slammed its claw down on the Rathalos, and I saw lightning strikeout. It did it a few more times, shocking the Rathalos each time. When it finally got up, the Rathalos roared again before flying off. The Human Zinogre roars as well, depowering from its charged state. It turns to look at me before a glow covers it. I shield my eyes as a bright light covers the area.
When it died down, I saw my friend lying on the ground with a Zinogre behind them. I carefully made my way to my friend, but it made no move. When I finally reached them, I quickly checked to make sure they were alive.
"Partner?" I said, shaking them.
All I got was a groan. Thinking they might be really hurt, I started to lift my partner onto my back. Before I could take a step, the Zingore walked next to me and lowered itself.
"You want me to ride you?" I asked, shocked.
I saw it nod as if it understood me. I carefully place my partner on the Zinogre before climbing up myself. Once I was sure that we wouldn't fall off, the Zinogre stood up and started to run back to the village. I wasn't sure what happened, but I strongly felt that no one would believe me.
3rd Person,
A man stood on the nearby cliff, having watched the whole battle. He closes his eyes before another monster stands next to him.
"So, another one has appeared." He said before turning to his monster.
"It seems that we have a lot to plan. And a rival to fight." He said, making his monster howl.
"Ready yourself, Monster-Born. Because things are about to get real nasty." He said, laughing.
And that's chapter 2. So your first hunt and ended up meeting another monster a lot earlier. While the Arzuros is a somewhat easy monster, I had trouble fighting it on my first playthrough, it was quickly dealt with by another monster I heard is the main one throughout the series. Since you are a rookie hunter fighting a Rathalos, it was in your best interest to run. However, the Zingore returns and fuses with you to make a human vision of itself. I also changed the POV a few times so you can see what others saw since you blacked out during your first fusion. Remember, YOU are the hunter. That's why you won't see he/she or him/her when other characters speak.
Next chapter, I cover the origins of the name Monster-Born, why you can hear the voices of monsters, and why you can fuse them. However, I need more feedback! Just because the Emails aren't working for some reason, doesn't mean I don't update.
