Somnus groaned lightly as he stared out of the window that showed the dark sky of the night. It was only one week into his bed rest and already he was bored out of his mind. He could only read so much in as sitting before the violent urge to toss the book he held into a wall. Unlike his siblings, Somnus was not made to sit for periods of time and just read. No, he wanted to move and train till his arms felt like lead and sweat poured off of his face.
What also led to his somewhat sour mood was the fading effect of the medicine. He still had an hour or so before one of the night attendants came and gave him the medicine to help with the dull ache that came from his lower right leg. During the day hours, Somnus would have to deal with both the aches and that of his elder siblings. Times they would come tittering about how he landed in this situation, other times when they weren't being absolute idiots he would admit they were great distractions to the pain and the boredom that would hit.
Tonight, it seemed to be a night where Somnus was awake. Whether due to the growing ache of his leg or having slept too much to really sleep he didn't know. So his thoughts ran from him. Mother would not heal him as she decided to use this as a way of punishment and a lesson learned for the stupid way he got it broken. He knew now to never try impressing any of the girls using a chocobo and trying a stunt with it. Even if it was also Gilgamesh's fault that pushed for it to happen.
"Somnus?" His gaze moved from the darkened window to that of his sister the flame from the lamp casting flickers of light over her. She was blinking her eyes as she tried to chase the sleepiness from them as she fought a yawn seconds later. Soft footsteps moved towards him until he felt the bed dip on the side.
"Shouldn't you be asleep?" He asked in a quick manner.
She gave him a small smile. "I woke up with this feeling and made my way to you. Seems you were in need of a companion." Somnus let a small huff of air leave him. Yeah, his siblings could be a huge menace and pain in his backside, but they were always there for him. Gently, Somnus reached out to take her hand in his to give a slight squeeze in thanks before letting go. "Do you want me to read for you?"
Even though he disliked reading, Somnus would never decline Arryn when she offered to read for him. Even Ardyn wouldn't decline her offer. It was the way her voice soothed the soul as she read out loud that both brothers would always find time to listen. Glancing at the few books at the bedside table Somnus chose one and gave it to her. Flipping to the mark Somnus left from earlier she moved to sit in the chair close to his bed and started.
Almost an hour later Somnus watched as her eyelids began to droop and her voice slowly lowered until Arryn finally lost the fight of sleep. Her arms and head taking space on the bed near his legs. Tenderly, Somnus worked the book from her hands, marked the page, and set it back on the table. Next he moved her hair so that she wasn't breathing them in. In the coming months he was going to miss her dearly. When the news had been broken to all about her new status Somnus felt hurt. She may be a thorn in his side, that doubled when with Ardyn, but she was still a good sister to him and he loved her. Just as he loved his elder brother, idiot that he was.
He was going to miss the days they spent time wandering out in the woods with their chocobos, just the three of them. Laughing at something stupid one of them said or did. Or training with the General or their father when he had time to see their progress and give praise. Though deep down, Somnus thinks that the most he will miss about his sister is her presence of being here. Just knowing she could be just around the corner. Hearing her greeting at meal times or hugging him whenever she sees him. Of the siblings, Arryn was more physical in showing her love.
"Oh dear." One of the attendants whispered seeing the sleeping figure of Arryn before looking to Somnus. "Should I send for your father?" Somnus shook his head. "No, just get help to bring her into the bed." Seconds later another attendant came to help put Arryn into the bed with Somnus. They helped to move him over to fit her in while giving him the medicine. With only a grumble from the disturbance Arryn curled into Somnus' side as her face nuzzled his chest. With an arm around her he waited as the medicine worked slowly to dull the pain and soon pulled him into the darkness of sleep.
