Greatest Love Story
A/N: Song-fic based on LANCO's Greatest Love Story. I think I almost cried writing this one!
Summary: It's Luke and Lorelai's wedding day. As someone who has watched their love story unfold, Rory decides to dedicate a love song to them instead of making a maid of honor speech. Told from Lorelai's POV.
Pairing: Lorelai/Luke; Rory
"And now the maid of honor…Miss Rory Gilmore-Hayden." The MC announced.
I sat there with Luke as I watched my beautiful daughter make her way up the steps to the stage and take the microphone from the MC, who just happened to be Kirk. "Thanks, Kirk." Rory said. "You know, I've had a front row seat watching these two over the years. I've seen her get jealous over the two women that she saw him date. I've seen him pine over her while she dated…well let's just say a few different guys." She said and there were quite a few laughs. "They both married other people and those marriages failed. But the one thing I can say about these two, is that no matter what they always seemed to find their way back to each other." There were cheers. "Now, from the moment these two got engaged, I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out the best way for me to tell the both of you how much I love you guys…and only one thing came to mind. The perfect love song. So, Mom, Luke…Here is my wedding present to you." Rory said, before I saw Hep Alien come out on the stage.
Rory handed the microphone to Lane. "Now, this normally isn't the kind of music that we play. After bribing Zach very seriously, he finally agreed to it. But he wants it known that this is a one-time deal. It will never happen again." She said.
I heard the opening music to one of my favorite country songs. Rory couldn't have picked a better song. The reason the song was one of my favorites was because every time I heard it, it made me think of me and Luke.

We go to the river and find us a spot and we probably went a little too far

I looked over at Luke and he had the biggest smile on his face. He stood up and held his hand out for mine. "Dance with me?" He asked.
I nodded and slipped my hand into his. As he led me over to the dance floor, I couldn't help but say, "You hate dancing."
"Yes, but you like it and it is our wedding day. Isn't this the kind of thing we're supposed to do?" He said.

I couldn't help the tears that I felt fall down my face. I felt Luke reach up and wipe away the tears. "Why the tears?" He asked me.
"I can't help but think that I've got the greatest kid on the planet right now." I told him.
"I don't think that she planned this alone." Luke said. I looked at him confused. He turned me so that I could see Rory standing near the Gazebo talking to April and my parents.
"April helped her?" I asked.
Luke shrugged. "I know nothing." He smiled.
"Liar." I said.
So you went off to college and I got a job I was working that 9 to 5

I spent my days working, spent my nights drinking, howling at the moon

I couldn't help but smile at the scene in front of me. Rory and April standing with my parents, and my parents treating April no different than they did Rory. It made me happy.
As the song continued, Luke kept twirling me around the dance floor. I was so happy. I don't think anything could have made me happier.
"So, I've been thinking." Luke said. "I know how much you love your house, but with the fact that we have Rory, April and sometimes Jess… I think we need a bigger house." Luke told me.
"You do?" I asked him. He nodded. "And where do you propose that we move to?"
"Well, see that's part of the surprise. It's your wedding present." He told me.
I stopped dancing and just stared at Luke. "Please tell me that your joking right now." I said. I was really hoping that he didn't do what I think he did.
"Just…don't freak out…Okay?" He said.
I sighed. "I'll try." I replied.

When I couldn't take the suspense any longer, I looked up at Luke. "Show me." I said.
"Are you sure? The song's not over yet." He said.
I nodded. "I'm sure. I wanna see." I told him.
He smiled at me. "Okay, come on." He said and started pulling me across the town square.
So you came back after a long four years
Your college boyfriend didn't work out
So we went out for a couple of drinks to find out who we are now
Sure we changed but way deep down you had the same old feelings for me
I went to the store and I bought you a ring and I got down on one knee
Luke led me through town and over to a house that he'd almost bought us the first time we got engaged. "Really?" I asked quietly.
I looked at Luke and he nodded. "Yeah. But it wasn't just me this time." He said.
I was confused. "What are you talking about?" I asked him.
"It was a group effort." I heard from behind me. I turned around to see my parents, Rory, Jess and April. "We all went in together and bought the house for you guys." Rory told me.
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Yep. We're a big family now. Everyone needs their own room. April and Jess can't keep rotating on who sleeps on the couch every we're all at the house. Plus this way, even Grandma and Grandpa can have a room for the holidays." Rory said.
"I guess that makes sense." I said.
"Of course it does." My mother said. "Congratulations Lorelai." She said.
"Thanks Mom." I said, as once again I felt tears fall down my face.
