Abigail walked into her house the next day exhausted. She dropped her bag on the coffee table, kicked her heels off, and lay on the the sofa with her legs on Donovan's lap.
"Long day?" He asked. "You don't know the the half of it" Abigail sighed. Donovan rolled his eyes before he began to massage Abigail's feet. Abigail moaned in pleasure and closed her eyes. It felt so good after a whole day of standing. Donovan chuckled to himself at her reaction.
10 minutes later Abigail was fast asleep. Donovan picked her up and walked to her bedroom. He put her down and wrapped the blankets around her. he kissed her forehead softly before whispering, "Good night, my love." he turned to leave but Abigail tightened her grasp on him. "Can you stay with me?" Abigail asked, half asleep. Donovan smiled before climbing into the bed with her. He pulled her into a tight embrace and the two fell asleep.
Abigail woke up early the next morning thanks to the doorbell. She extracted herself from Donovan's arms and the blankets. Abigail climbed down the stairs and opened the door to find her dad and Dottie standing there.
"Dad!" Abigail exclaimed. "What are you doing here?" Abigail's dad, Arthur, chuckled. "I'm here to see my daughter and for the wedding" he said. "And i'm here because Donovan forgot to swing by yesterday and i had an idea that he would be here" Dottie informed in her usual manner. Unfortunately, Donovan chose that moment to climb down the stairs.
"Honey, who's at the … door?" Donovan faltered a bit when he looked up and saw who was there. He groaned. "You have got to be kidding me" Abigail rolled her eyes at him. "I kid you not. And apparently, you were supposed to go to your mother's yesterday" Abigail informed. "I was worried about you!" Donovan said in defense.
"Are you ok, Abby?" Arthur asked, concerned. "I'm fine dad. Just… tired" Abigail answered.
Then dottie cleared her throat. "Donovan, did you spend the night here?" she asked. Donovan rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. Dottie just rolled her eyes. "That's the third time this week! it would be nice to know where you are!" She said.
Arthur's eyes widened. "Now hold on here," he started. Abigail sighed. She knew exactly what was coming. "You two slept together?" he asked. Donovan looked at Abigail to help. "Calm down dad. Nothing happened. He just stayed to take care of me" Abigail said with a roll of her eyes. Her dad could be slightly over protective.
Just then Abigail's phone rang. She glanced down. "I've got to take this" she said before walking into a the living room. Everyone else followed and took a seat. "What do you mean the shipment is delayed? I need the dress by this week. No, I understand that there was an issue with the shipment. Yes. My wedding is this week, I need a dress! Fine, i'll wait while you get your supervisor!" Abigail exclaimed. Everyone was listening to the one sided conversation.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Donovan asked. Abigail scowled. "My dress won't get here in time for the wedding." Donovan groaned. "What am I supposed to do now? We can"t have a wedding if I don"t have a dress!" Abigail began pacing. "Ok, you need to calm down. Give me the phone and go make a cup of tea" Donovan said. He knew that a cup of tea would help calm Abigail down, with her being a Merriwick and all. Abigail handed him the phone before walking to the kitchen.
Donovan put the phone to his ear. "What do you mean the dress won't arrive? When we ordered this dress, you assured us it would arrive on time. Yes, this is an important shipment, it's a wedding dress! I would like to speak to your manager. Now." Donavon said into the phone. He sighed as he was put on hold.
A few minutes later Abigail walked back into the room with a cup of tea. She had a worried expression on her face. "What's going on?" she asked. "Nothing. Just waiting while they get the manager" he replied. "Donovan!" she exclaimed. he rolled his eyes. "Calm down." he replied, before leading Abigail to a couch and making her sit down.
Then the phone was taken off hold. "Hello? Yes, i wanted to ask about..." he walked out of the room. Abigail sighed. "What's going on?" Dottie asked. "My wedding dress is not going to arrive on time" she said. "Well, how come?" Arthur asked. Abigail's expression turned to anger. "They didn't tell me the full story but i'm willing to bet it was shipped off to a different country by accident" Abigail rubbed her temple.
Donovan walked back into the room. He handed her the phone. "The dress will be here in two days" Abigail gaped at him. "How did you manage that?" She asked. "I am a Davenport" he replied. "Don't I know it" she said sarcastically. Dottie cleared her throat. The pair looked up. "I'll be leaving now. Donovan, I expect to see you this afternoon for lunch" Dottie said. "Of course, mother" he sighed. "I'll be taking my leave too. I just stopped by to say hi" Arthur said. Abigail got up and hugged them both.
Once they left Donovan sighed. "That was... interesting." he said. "That it was" Abigail replied before the two of them went to go get breakfast.
