Halo 5.1 Guardians of Sera Chapter 47
"Marcus! Are you alright? What happened?" asked Adam.
"We ran into Myrrah. Problem solved. We're on our way." said Marcus.
"Solved? You mean dead." said Adam.
"That was the idea Dad. Yeah." explained Marcus.
"Oh...I see" said Adam.
"Don't waste your sympathy. Are the grubs still outside your lab?" asked Marcus.
"Yes, they'll be covering the elevators, too. Find another route. There's a service hatch in the shaft somewhere." said Adam.
"We're lookin'! Jack, slow the lift" said Marcus.
They reached the service hatch.
"That's it Jack, stop the lift" said Marcus.
Marcus opens up as he and Anya regrouped with the others. It was a dark hallway so Jack and the Spartans turned on their flashlights to illuminate the path ahead.
"Okay, I really need to know what Myrrah was yappin' about. She knew your Dad before E-Day? How? I mean, she looks human. Did she join the Locust Country Club for shits and giggles or somethin'?" asked Baird.
"The bitch was just jerkin' his chain Baird" said Cole.
"Maybe not" said Marcus.
"Maybe she needed his help long ago" suggested Linda.
"What do you mean?" asked Vale.
"She said she gave the Professor twenty years to deal with the Lambent right? Maybe the Lambent was the problem before E-Day?" said Linda.
"Desperation can drive people to do extreme things under circumstances. Perhaps the Lambent were those circumstances that drove them to invade topside. To Myrrah, Adam's time was probably up." said Master Chief.
"We'll find out for sure when we get to him. Come on." said Marcus.
The team reached the door to the floor where Adam Fenix and his lab are.
"The grubs are waiting for elevator A. So.." said Marcus.
Marcus kicks open the door.
"Two, three...go!"
"GUESS WHO MOTHERFUCKERS!" shouts Cole
The team begin clearing the floor of the grubs waiting for them as they fought their way through to Marcus' Dad.
"Dad's in here somewhere. Dad! We're on your floor now!" said Marcus.
"Look for the door with the external power unit." said Adam.
"Okay. Hang tight!" said Marcus.
"Turret up ahead!" Master Chief calls out.
"Dad, they've got a turret outside your lab! Find some cover!
"I'm going for the turret. Cover me!" said Linda.
Locke, Tanaka and Fred took care of the Guards surrounding the turret gunner with Linda going for the headshot.
"He's down!" she shouts.
"Nice shot! Everyone clear 'em out!" shouts Marcus as the team takes care of the rest of the grubs outside Adam's lab.
Kelly and Buck took point, shotguns full bore clearing a path ahead with Delta covering them from behind as they pushed ahead clearing the area.
"I think we're outside your lab, Dad!" said Marcus.
"Okay, let's follow the wires on the floor. They'll be more grubs waiting at the end." said Marcus.
"We can speed this up if we split up. Locke and I will go with Delta on the right, Fred you and the others take the left. We'll meet back here when it's done." said Master Chief.
The teams split up towards each room with security panels guarded by grubs and boomers.
Marcus, Master Chief and Locke lead the assault, clearing the room and securing the security panel.
"Clear!" said Locke.
Marcus then hits the switch shutting down one of the locks.
"One lock down Dad. One more to go. Fred? How we doin' on your end?" asked Marcus.
"Standby! said Fred hitting a guard with a curb stomp as Vale goes for the switch.
"Second switch is down. Working our way back to you Marcus" said Vale.
"Nice job! We're on our way. That's two Dad. We're headin' back." said Marcus.
Marcus kicks open the door to his father's lab. Delta and the spartans checked the room for any hidden grubs that could possibly ambush them. Delta took cover on the side of the wall, with Marcus giving the signal for Master Chief to advance ahead.
Chief saw movement, signaling Delta to cautiously approach. They all slowly walked ahead as Chief pointed at the desk signalling Osiris and Blue Team to be alert and calls Marcus over.
Adam Fenix then peaks up from behind the desk.
"Professor?" asked Master Chief.
"Marcus, Anya and you must be Master Chief" said Adam.
"Sierra 117 reporting sir" said Master Chief.
"It's good to see you again. I never thought I would. I'm...so sorry about Dom.
"Hard to know where to begin Dad" said Marcus.
"Yes, I always wondered what I'd say to you If I ever saw you again, but... we always run out of time" said Adam.
Adam then goes to grab the command keys for the imulsion countermeasure from the desk.
"Just my insurance. It won't work without command keys. Same failsafe I designed into the Hammer of Dawn. I'm an old hand at mass destruction, aren't I?" asked Adam.
Adam goes to his computer to make some final adjustments.
"I've had years to think things over, Marcus. You and Anya, all of you. Live your lives to the fullest when this is over. Promise me you'll all do that. No regrets. No looking back." said Adam.
"Yeah, sure Dad. We better get going.
"If the imulsion hadn't reached a critical stage, I might have found a way to save the Locust as well, and they could have gone back underground" said Adam.
"Tell me you don't feel sorry for 'em" said Marcus.
"Responsible, not sorry. It's my fault they're here, Marcus. I failed to stop the imulsion from spreading all those years ago. It drove the Locust out of their warrens. I tried to persuade Myrrah to keep her people underground, but they couldn't, so then..."
"Wait, wait, wait...did I hear that right? The goverment knew that E-Day was coming and none of you bothered to warn us?" asked Baird.
"No, just me. Even Prescott didn't know. Not until much later. I had so many ideas. Just...too little time." said Adam.
"Dad, stop this. Come on." pleaded Marcus.
"Whoa. What else don't we know?" asked Baird.
"You're a scientific man. Look at this later and understand what I wanted to do, and what I had to do." explained Adam.
"Yo! Less talking, more walking" urged Cole.
"He's right Professor, we need to move. We don't know how much longer COG and UNSC forces can hold out before we deploy the countermeasure." said Master Chief.
"Or Arbiter and The Swords of Sanghellios." adds Vale.
Outside the lab, Lambent and Promethean forces were rushing in.
Marcus quickly mans the Troika turret as Delta, Blue Team and Osiris stand together to hold them back.
"STALK!" shouts Baird.
"Take it down!" shouts Buck.
"My God, the Lambent. They've evolved so much since I last saw them" said Adam.
"Just keep your head down!" cautioned Marcus.
The Prometheans were incinerating the Lambent getting closer.
"Those Prometheans. The Warden Eternal. What are they?" asked Adam.
"An advanced race called The Forerunners. A civilization from eons ago." explained Master Chief.
"Sure we got time for a history lesson Chief?" asked Fred.
"The Warden Eternal serves a rogue AI named Cortana, an AI i was supposed to protect. But Cortana was infected with Rampancy...a cancer for them. She somehow cured herself and is using a Forerunner police force called The Guardians to do her will across the galaxy, destroying worlds. If she finds Sera, It's game over." explained Master Chief.
"My God. How do you plan on stopping her?" asked Adam.
"Getting as far away from here as we can. Get you guys out of her line of sight. Ending your war so you can have a fighting chance to rebuild" said Chief.
"We're clear!" said Marcus exiting the turret.
The team along with Adam Fenix head to the roof where the weapon lied. It was time to finish the fight.
