AN: I don't own DC or inFAMOUS
Chapter 2: It Begins
Jason, Cole and Zeke run up and pass the cop cars and a semi container that blocked the entrance from other vehicles and large groups to see the protesters and a squad of baton wielding riot cops.
"First, we have to deal with the riot cops if we want outta here", Jason explains.
"We could take shots from the crowd, trigger a riot and keep the heat off of us", Cole suggest.
"Course that means a lot of innocents will be beaten or killed", Jason retorts, "We should just confront them with Zeke giving coverfire".
"I'm with the second option", Zeke states and Cole agrees as well.
The trio quietly make their way up to the front before Cole launches a Shockwave/Blast to send multiple guys flying while Jason used some electric hits and kicks to take them down. Zeke fired on anyone of the Riot cops the conduit duo didn't have an eye on. Soon, the eight riot cops were knocked out and Jason was inspecting the sealed entrance so they can get through.
Jason and Cole quickly see the box to the left with a blinking red light. Cole shoots some bolts, charging the box and lighting up all five lights. The sealed metal door then opens.
However, once the doors open, the crowd that was hanging back rushed through and were fired upon by some more security on the bridge. A series of turret machine guns and men with assault rifles blocking their path.
"Shit", Jason growled as he ran forward with Cole.
Jason and Cole fired Electrical Bolts, Blasts, and even some Drops while Zeke fired his six shooter, taking out the guards,. They slowly made their way through the security on the bridge, going through another sealed doors, with the crowd following them.
They dealt with more shooters before heading for another sealed door. Jason charged the box to the side and it opened to a rasor wall of shielded gunners.
"Hey guys, head for the quarantine station! It's our ticket outta here!", Zeke calls out.
The guns open fire and Jason lasts the civilians behind the door again and sealed it to save them. Zeke had made a break for the station with jason and Cole following behind him, dodging the gunfire to the best of their abilities. Zeke smashed through the gate of the containment unit like a football player but falls into the harbour. Cole is second through and jumps into a unit, with the door then sealing shut.
Jason jumps up and lands on top of it. Not seeing a way into it to help Cole, Jason sees a platform under the bridge and jumps to it.
He looks around some more to see a hatch under the unit Cole is in. Sighing as he could enter the unit, Jason looked to the water, hoping to see that Zeke is still alive.
A few minutes later, the hatch opens and Cole falls through to the same platform as Jason.
"You're look okay. What happened in there, Cole?", Jason asked the shaved head man.
"Shit I want to talk about in person with everyone at the rooftop.", Cole says to him.
Cole then got a call he was forced to answer, from a woman called Moya, "Because of the riot topside, you and John Doe need to use the underside to get back into the city. Given the state of our new 'partnership', I've taken the liberty your phone's frequency. I've got a lock on your GPS locator and I can hear every word you say."
Jason and Cole both knew their was some questionably legal things in what she said, but given the lawlessness of Empire City, they accepted it. Jason though made note that this government agent didn't know him, considering it a blessing.
Cole shoots down some of these orbed poles and the duo used them to make it to another platform. They then balance on some pipes to get further into the city. They continued forward until running into a couple a reapers on a platform at the bridge towers, split by a fence.
They fired on our duo, but Jason and Cole fire back, hitting a barrel that explodes and sends the reapers into the water.
They made it to the same platform but couldn't move forward through the fence. they notice a thick pipe that went around the left side by the big power box that they got a charge from. They notice a shard of some kind, when Cole touched it, it was absorbed into him and he felt a little more powerful or could handle more power.
Shelving it for now, they made it around while dodging exhaust of some kind and made it to a cable. The used the cable to climb to another platform.
"Cole, the water pressure has dropped in the main running under the bridge. What's going on down there?", Moya inquires.
"Reapers were busting up some pipes", Cole informs her.
"Interesting... I'll see what I can find. You worry about getting back into the city.", Moya orders.
"Ugh", Jason groans. he could practically sensed what a bitch she was. 'Wonder if she is related to Waller', he thought.
They began the final traversal under the bridge, dealing with two more reapers and the last platform.
"Don't forget who's holding your leash, Cole. You find John and the Ray Sphere, and I get you out of there, no questions asked.", Moya reestablishes, "But you double-cross me, or do something stupid, and I will throw you i a hole so deep that you don't know which way is up. Got it?".
"Yeah. I got it", Cole growled.
Jason was right, she was a bitch and already seemed just as bad as Amanda Waller. This is why he'll be focusing on only using his electricity powers for now, he doesn't need more of her attention.
They race across the last few pipes that weren't stable and were falling with the duo jump to land at the last second, only to see Zeke running from across the street to them.
"Cole? Jay? Man, its good to see you.", Zeke says to the duo as he gets to them, happy to see the two.
"Nice work on the Gate, Wrecking Ball", Jason jokes in good spirits with Cole chuckling.
Zeke also chuckles, "Hell, lived through the fall, no problem. But gettin' back to shore, well, let's just say I'm no Michael Phelps."
"Yeah, that's an understatement", Cole replies.
"Hey, easy Lightning Rod", Zeke jokingly repremends, "So how the hell you live through that?Bullets flyin' everywhere, all over the place... figured you were goners."
"Let's head home. I'll you guys in", Cole says.
Later, Night
They made it back to their rooftop. The girls were busy but they got Amy on the phone and cole began to explain what he was told. About Agent Moya Jones and her supposed husband, John White. About the Ray Sphere, a device developed by a group called The First Sons that could give powers using it's own unique radiation and drained others neuro-electric energy and gives it to others.
"I knew it! All the stuff i've been sayin', every word is true. Government's been in cahoots with a secret organization, the Ray Sphere... damn, it all makes sense now.", Zeke rants, "That Ray Sphere must dish powers out to anyone controlling it. You gotta bring it back here."
"Sure, you can be our sidekick", Cole jokes.
"Ah, Hell with that. Zeke Jedediah Dunbar is his own man", Zeke retorts.
"Jedediah?", Amy asks before bursting into a giggle fit with Cole and Jason barely holding back a smile.
"After my grandfather. Strong man for a man his size. Uh, I don't know where Zeke comes from, but I'm certain...", Zeke explains.
"By the way, I don't think the Ray Sphere gives powers to whoever wields it. While Cole and I were touching it, Amy wasn't and she got powers. Who knows who else did", Jason shares, "could be a similar thing that Metahumans have with the Metagene.", as the others mulled that over.
"Anyway", Cole says, "Zeke, you should take a nap, and a bath. We got things to do".
Amy hangs up while Jason and Cole leave Zeke behind on the roof.
Moya soon calls, "I've already got a couple of leads for you; the coordinates have been uploaded into your phone. Give me a call when your in position."
Funny enough, one of the location was on a building next to the Home Roof. It was about a mysterious signal in the area.
"All right, now what?", Cole asks himself aloud.
"I dunno", Jason mumbled.
Moya contacts them again, "I'm picking up some weird interference from a rooftop not far from you. Need to find out its origin and purpose."
"So what are we looking for?", Cole asks her while Jason scoped the rooftops near by for anything of interest.
"Not really sure, probably a transmitter of some type. Call me when you get over there", Moya says before hanging up.
Jason spots a satellite dish that appears to be modified in some way, "up there, on the Neon's biggest water tower". Cole looked to the tower before following Jason to the top of it.
The duo approach it as Cole calls Moya, "Found it. Looks like this portable audio drive is attached to this satellite dish."
"See if you can listen to it with your phone", Moya suggests/orders.
Coles takes the small drive from the dish and installs it on his phone to copy the audio file, but all they order was a garbled mess.
"Sounds like a bunch of garbage", Cole says.
"It's an encrypted message, but I can't break it.", Moya informs them.
'Bet I could', Jason thought, 'but it's best to downplay my skills while we work with Moya'.
"Look around to see if you can find another one.", she orders them.
Now that they have interacted with one, they can now use Radar Pulse to locate another one. They race straight to the closest one, dealing with Reapers and finding some more Blast Shards along the way.
They discovered that Blast Shards increase Cole's electrical storage and Jason's overall power and storage. Just like with the dead drops, after interacting with one, the duo can now locate more with the Radar Pulse.
Anyway, they eventually get to a pentagon shaped building and find another satellite dish dead drop. Jason also took note that it made a unique sound, so if they're not actively looking for one of the dead drops they can find it when they stumble across them.
Cole is the one to again take the drive and plug it in to his phone, still garbled.
"Hear that? Same as before", Cole says to Jason and Moya.
"I'm running the signals through a decryption program on this end. I've almost cracked it, but I need another sample. Look around for more of those files", Moya explains to the empowered duo.
They used Radar Pulse and made their way to the third one. They free-run through the Neon to a roof with a bunch of reapers seemingly guarding the satellite dish. The duo bombard them with Bolts and Blasts, taking care of them.
Cole, again takes the dead drop into his phone. They hear a garble and Cole calls Moya.
"That's the last one", Cole says.
"For now", Jason rebuttals him, to which he grunts back.
"Give me a second... All right, that should do it. I'm uploading the decryption algorithm to your phone. It should let you listen to the messages", Moya says.
The messages begins, "I-I couldn't stop Kessler from detonating the Ray Sphere. Damn thing took out five or six square blocks, kills god knows how many, found the Ray Sphere in the blast crater, next to two kids. Dunno if they were dead or not, didn't have time to check. I'm going to try and hole up somewhere. If anyone is even listening to these things, I need immediate extraction. Please. You've got to get me out of here before Kessler finds me", the message ends.
"You understand any of that?", Cole asks aloud.
"He talked about us and the blast before running away with the Ray Sphere to keep it from Kessler. And also, why did he refer to us as kids? I mean sure, I'm younger, but your in your mid 20s, at least.", Jason remarks.
"I don't believe it. That's John. He must have used dead drops to communicate with his handlers", Moya says.
'Must?', Jason took note. If she was John's wife, in the same organization, shouldn't she knew that for certain.
"Dumb it down", Cole responds.
"It means there are probably more scatter around the city. you should find as many as you can; they could tell us where he took the Ray Sphere", Moya explains,
"Find John and the Ray Sphere, and we're out, right?", Cole clarified.
"I know the deal, Cole", Moya growls.
"Just making sure", Cole says before the call is disconnected.
The duo then made there way to the next mission point. Looks like it's in Archer Square.
Upon arriving, Cole calls Moya, "Okay Moya, what now?"
"One of my contacts, an electrician named Brandon Carey, didn't check in last night. He's pretty important, so you need to find him. He was last seen in an alley across the street from your location.", she informs before the duo check out the nearest one.
It was a lot with a container for a semi parked. They instead find a dead woman.
"Your boy isn't here, Moya, just a dead woman", Cole tells Moya over the phone.
"A woman? That doesn't make any sense.", Moya says.
"Could be related to Brandon, maybe?", Jason suggests.
"Hang on a second...", Cole mumbles, feeling something and bends down, taking a knee and puts his right hand to the woman's head.
Suddenly, flashes of the woman's final moments appear in his head. Reapers, taking her husband, Brandon, and him calling out to her, Lynnae.
Cole jumps back to his feet, holding his head, "Whoa..."
"Dude, what happened?", Jason asked him at Cole's sudden actions.
"Had a vision... the Reapers kidnapped Brandon", Cole says to Jason and Moya, shifting his hand from his head to gesture to her body, "This is his wife, Lynnae", Cole then sees a green shape move away from them, "I can see an echo of someone running away."
"Follow it. We need to find out what happened", Moya orders,
Cole gives chase to the echo, with Jason following after him. They run through alleys and across a street. They come into another open area between buildings, maybe right next to the Rooftop Base, where they meet a Reaper wearing pale yellow, instead of red. This reaper then unleashed a blue blast from the ground in a wave to them.
"Damn", "Shit", Cole and Jason shout, respectively, doing combat rolls away from the attack.
They quickly get up and and shoot a series of Bolts and easily took down the Reaper Conduit.
They ignore him now and continue to chase the echo figure to find their target. They just pass a gas station and run into more reapers that they quickly defeat, and continue their tracking.
"Pick up your damn phone", Zeke's voice suddenly sounds out from Cole's phone.
"What's up?", Cole asks him.
"And good hacking skills to force the call through, Man", Jason compliments Zeke.
"Thanks, Jay.", Zeke says, "And the Feds, man, that's what's up. Watching our every move, even caught one scoping out the roof. Was leaning against a wall down there, eating' a fresh apple. Now you tell me, where the hell'd he get that?", the duo were still tracking during the rant.
"I dunno Zeke, but if we want to get out of here, this is the way it's got to be", Cole responds to his best friend.
"C'mon man, don't be stupid. They'll ride you as long as they can, but the second you're no longer useful, BAM, you vanish. Permanently."
"He's not wrong", Jason mutters to himself.
"I think all that conspiracy stuff has rotted your brain.", Cole tells Zeke
"Don't kill the messenger, brother. I'm just tellin' it like it is, you watch your back", Zeke says and disconnects.
Jason and Cole arrive at a power station, filled with Reapers. Guns fire and Bolts are shot as the dup take out the Reapers.
They follow the echo to the back and see a remaining Reaper welding dynamite blow up and took the main power unit with him, throwing the duo back, and the power in the Neon went out.
Moya calls them, "What the hell happened? The entire Neon just went dark".
"That's cause one of those maniacs blew up a whole substation.", Cole woozily tells her.
"Coles, what's up with you?", Jason asks at Cole's state.
"Man, my head feels like it's in a vice", Cole groans as he continued to follow the echo, his vision a little blurry.
"Your body must be reacting to the absence of electricity", Moya theorizes.
"Like going through withdrawal", Jason supplies.
"You're going to have to man up and find Carey, if we don't restore the power, the Reapers will be unstoppable.", Moya orders and hangs up.
Cole looks to Jason, "Why do seem alright without the power?"
Jason shrugs, "I don't know", he had his phone out and had typed into and showed Cole, 'Probably because it's not my true power, don't say aloud for Moya to hear'.
Cole nods and they head to the sewer grate the echo stopped at.
"Come on man, seriously", Jason comments at this.
"I know, lets go", Cole says and lifts the lid, Jason jumps through first and Cole follows, the lid falling back into place.
In The Sewer
Jason and Cole land and see something throwing electricity. They use their respectively red and blue electricity to coat their arms, acting as a lights source to see in the dark sewer.
Cole calls Moya, "All right, I tracked the echo to the sewers."
"The Reapers must've needed Carey's help in shutting down the underground linear transformer. Find the transformer and figure out a way to get it back online. If they killed the circuit, you'll have to re-establish it.", Moya theorized.
The duo arrive at the source to see a transformer with only half of it coated in electricity. Moya said they needed to complete the circuit, right.
"Jason, I got an idea", Cole says to the younger man.
"So? What is it?", Jason asked.
Cole answered by jumping up to the two metal orbs of the transformer, acting like a jumper cable to connect the two sides of the transformer. He body raised up as the arcs of electricity passed through him before finally jumping down. Cole also saw himself using new techniques. Using his lighting to restrain reapers, heal citizens, and consume the bio-electricity from another reaper.
"Oh yeah", Cole practically moaned.
"Dude, you good?", Jason asked in worry.
"Yeah, and I think I just learned some new tricks", Cole says and sees someone near a gate, injured, "follow me and I'll show you".
The duo race to the gate and Cole approaches the injured man. Cole coats his hands in his electricity and shocks the man like he was defibrillating the man. The man was immediately healed and got to his feet as if he was never injured.
"Thank you", the man says before calling out to a woman on the other side of the gate, "Hey, Janet, you back there? Open the gate, these guys are okay". A woman approaches that gate and the guy turns back to the duo, "You've got to stop the reapers. They're running around with some electrician, killing anyone they find down here.
"So healing, uh. Can you teach me that later?", Jason says before they move forward to find Brandon.
"That's not all yet", Cole says and runs to where there's more people.
Cole then calls Moya, "The transformer is back on. Now what?".
"Restart the distribution substation by charging up the voltage regulator mounted to it's front. That should be enough to get the power back on.", Moya informs and ends the connection.
The duo stop at the gathered people and heals the three citizens to the right. Cole then heads to the left and shows Jason the Arc Restraint on two injured Reaper, keeping him in place so he cant't hurt others for now. Finally, he head for the last group of Reapers that lead to the destination. Cole then shows the Bio Leech, taking all the bio-electricity stored in the bodies of the Reapers.
"So those are the other things you've learned, huh? That Bio-Leech should be only used for last resort, unless you want Trish and the others on our asses.", Jason states.
"Yeah, but I'll still teach you all of them later", Cole replies.
"Actually, I got an Idea", Jason states, before approaching Cole and puts his hands to him, he then uses the vision thing Cole used on the dead Lynnae and sees the techniques and how to use them.
"Alright, got it down", Jason states.
"Really?", Cole asks with a shocked expression, "How?"
" I did what you did with Lynnae. But I still need to test the abilities to see if it worked", Jason replies.
The duo then jumped up to a pipe to then use it to climb over to more platforms and pipes in the sewer, since Cole can't touch the water. Jason could because electricity isn't his true powers, but this is sewer water and he didn't want that nastiness on him.
They make way for another gate, when they are called by Zeke, "Hey guys, you there?"
"Yeah", "What's up?", Cole and Jason replies respectively.
"The girls just stopped by, to see what else we should do, but since you were gone, I called you", Zeke informs them.
"Wait until we get back, such things is best discussed in person", Jason says.
"Yeah. Oh, another thing. Can you two tell me about the bomb? I know it's neither of you guys' faults but my curiosity is getting the best of me.", Zeke says to the duo.
The duo just then fight 4 reapers, "Dealing with something now, catch you later", Cole says to him as he and Jason fight them. Cole just Blast them into the water and Bolt the water, While Jason injures them and tests out the Arc Restraints and Bio Leech on his two. They then continue through the sewer for their target.
They pass another gate as Moya calls, "Cole, Jason, Are you having any problems finding your way around down there?"
'Dammit', Jason thought to himself. The bitch must have heard his name listening in on Zeke's call.
"Nah", Cole replies, "I got into Urban Exploration four years ago. Crawled all over this city, so I know these sewers like the back of my hand".
The duo came to pillars that had some citizens and Reapers standing upon them. The dealt with the reapers before Arc Restraints them and Jason finally used Heal on a citizen as they jumped from pillar to pillar.
They come to another gate, where they finally locate Brandon Carey.
"What are you doing here? Did they see you?", he asked the duo in a panic.
"We need to turn on the substation", Cole informs the scared informant.
"Are you outta your damned mind?! The Reapers will kill my wife! No one is getting in here!", Brandon yells at them.
"Open the door", Cole growls.
"Fuck you! I've jammed this thing up tight. No one is getting in or out until she's safe!", Brandon say.
"Poor Guy", Jason quietly says to Cole.
"He still thinks he's protecting Lynnae", Cole quietly replies so Beandon doesn't hear, "Doesn't change the fact we need to get in there".
The duo could just fire him, the resulting burst could open the door, but Jason acted on something else.
"Lynnae is dead, Brandon. They shot her right after you last saw her.", Jason tells Brandon.
"What? How do you know her name?", Brandon asks him, distressed.
"I know this is hard but we saw her body. There was nothing anyone could do", Cole informs him.
Brandon tries not to cry, "I knew I shouldn't have trusted... God, I'm so sorry Lynnae...", and is unable not to cry but he is able to open the gate for the duo. He then enters a smoldering rage, "Listen to me, I've seen what you two can do. You have to kill them, all of them. Promise me."
"We'll do what we can", Jason tells him.
Brandon moves out of the way and they race pass him and make their way to the substation. On the front was the same box they've been charging on other bigger devices.
"Uh, so those things are called a voltage regulator", Jason says and Cole charges it.
The duo find the earlier sewer lid and exit it to see the power come on in the area.
Moya then calls again, "Nice work. Looks like power is fully restored to North Beach. There are three more substations in that are still offline, though. I'll mark them on your GPS as I find them".
Jason and Cole then head for the third and final marker Moya made earlier. Dealing with any Reapers they came across and grabbing any Blast Shards.
They make it to the location and Moya called them, "Alright, I got a call form an EMT in your area. The Reapers have overrun his makeshift medical clinic, and he needs your help."
"Can't solve all the world's problems, Moya", Cole seems to dismiss. But Jason was already making his way to the clinic and Cole follows.
"Maybe not, but if you help him, he might return the favor", Moya responds.
Jason and Cole make their way to the clinic but run into the medic a block before, waving them down to him. He wore a medical orange jacket and had an eye-patch of bandages over his left eye.
"The Reapers keep attacking the clinic I have down the street. Take care of them for me, would you?", he asks.
They agree to held and look down the street, only to see a Reaper shotgun blast a guy.
The duo immediately went to take care of the Reapers that came out from the clinic. Some were on the roof of the one story clinic with sandbag shields, but Jason quickly dealt with them.
They freed this territory from the Reapers due to this and the clinic was made available to them should they be to injured to heal themselves or each other. Though they considered the territory belonging to the city once more, for now it was marked as theirs until they freed the whole district.
Moya calls again, "There are other people around there who need help too. Keep an eye out for them."
"A question before you go", Jason says to Moya.
"Yes?", Moya says.
"Why haven't the Justice League gotten involved in this? A terrorist attack and quarantine of an entire city should have got them involved.", Jason asks her.
"From what I can gather, the government doesn't want to risk them getting the plague.", Moya replies.
"Hmm", Jason sounds out. He knew that wouldn't stop them though, they'll probably still send in The Team, they still need a real name though, unless they got it while he was dead. He just accepts that they won't be able to help for now.
Jason and Cole then traverse the Neon to see what else they can do for it. Maybe meet up with Zeke and the girls

AN: I have yet to figure out how to involve the Justice League but I figure a small cell from the Team might go undercover. I haven't figured out who yet, but I can think on it.
Also, since most of the fighting is just throwing any power at the enemy most of the time in inFAMOUS, the fighting in this story will be summarized outside of the boss fights or power introductions.
