Piper, Annabeth and Bianca had seen the crowds. It had been obvious that whatever Bianca was sensing was happening over there. and Bianca was even more unsteady now, a look of terror starting to form on her face. Piper was half holding her up as they shoved their way through the ring of demigods surrounding... surrounding what? She wasn't sure but whatever it was she was sure they could handle it.
Or she had been sure, right up until the moment they got to the front of the crowds. Bianca gasped softly, eyes going wide. That should have been the first sign that something was horribly wrong. But it took Piper a moment to make sense of what she was seeing. There was Chiron, stood, some girl with spiky black hair stood by his side gripping a spear. There was Luke on his knees in front of them. That didn't really make any sense but Piper wanted to reach out to comfort Annabeth anyway but- but there was something in Chiron's arms. Someone.
It was Annabeth's terrified little whisper that shocked the realisation into Piper. "I- is that Percy?" her voice was so very small, so shaky and Piper felt like she'd been sucker punched in the gut because it was. It was Percy. Percy, white dress soaked with vivid red blood, white hair stained with her own blood, limp and small in Chiron's arms. So small.
Percy was always small of course-she was short and she always would be. But when Percy was awake there was always something about her, an inner strength that made her larger than life. That drew people in. But now she just looked small, she looked small and pale and broken and Piper and Annabeth started screaming at the same time, twin noises of grief and agony, and Piper was running instantly, leaving Bianca to sink to her knees in shock as she tore across the snow towards the Centaur and the girl in his arms. She could feel Annabeth at her side-still invisible but she didn't care as everyone's gazes turned to her.
"What in the gods name-" Chiron started to speak but he didn't get much chance to say anything. Piper was still screaming even as she reached him.
"Percy! Percy oh gods oh gods Percy-"
"No-no nono-" Annabeth was crying. Even if Piper couldn't see her face she could hear it in the other girls voice.
"She- she's alive she's alive she has to be alive! Percy-" Piper was dragging Percy from the startled centaur's arms. Annabeth helping her take the weight. "Percy! PERCY WAKE UP!" Piper was putting power into her words, begging her friend to wake up.
"The lake." Annabeth gasped the words, "The lake Pipes- there's a lake-"
"What do you think you're doing?" Chiron reached out to try and grab Percy back, "The girl is injured she needs-"
"We know what she needs-"
"We-" but Piper and Annabeth were already picking Percy up, Piper gripping her upper half and Annabeth grabbing her legs as they took off running- and it probably looked comical- since Percy's legs appeared to be hovering mid-air with no support since Annabeth was wearing her cap.
"You can't just take her she's hurt-" Luke was rising to his feet but Piper snarled.
"No one stop us! Stay where you are!" and she watched as they all froze, and together the two girls raced towards the lake, carrying Percy between them. Bianca was racing behind them even as Piper felt her arms getting slick with the blood seeping out from Percy's shoulder- a stab wound she realised almost hysterically.
She noticed Annabeth's cap coming off as they ran, but neither of them cared enough to bend and catch it as the other teen appeared out of thin air.
And then they were at the lake, sprinting across the dock, and the leapt together.
Piper felt the shock of the cold water- dangerous cold she was sure but she didn't care as they were submerged in an instant.
Piper blinked, her gaze focusing on Annabeth even as the water swirled around them, bubbles rising as they sunk, both of them clutching at Percy as if she was a lifeline.
She swallowed hard, pulling Percy tighter to her with one hand even as Annabeth moved to join her at the other side of Percy's head, each of them clutching one of her arms, and grabbing one another's hands as they settled on the bottom of the lake, weighed down by Percy's body.
And she looked wrong like this.
Her skin was far too red- Piper was no expert but she'd seen magicians nearly burn out before, and she'd seen the after effects of Percy using chaos magic too, but even as they watched the wounds, the bruises and scraped that were all over her were starting to heal over, water swirling around the daughter of Poseidon.
They'd done it. They'd gotten her to the lake fast enough. Or Piper hoped they had- Percy's skin was still hot, still red- though it was a little cooler than it had been. Probably a combination of the waters healing effect and the temperature of it. Piper squeezed Annabeth's hand as she met her girlfriends gaze- and there was open relief in her eyes too. Neither of them had wanted to contemplate a world without Percy in it. And- and it looked like she was starting to heal. They'd done the right thing. Piper wasn't sure if Chiron had been about to try and help Percy or not, but nothing was ever as effective for Percy as being submerged in water for an extended period of time was.
Of course, as much as being underwater was good for Percy, it wasn't good for Piper or Annabeth. She could already feel that tightness, the need to take a breath. But she didn't want to surface, couldn't surface until they knew for sure that Percy was going to be okay.
Piper felt her gaze moving to meet Annabeth's again, and she saw her own thoughts reflected in her girlfriends eyes. They'd stay with Percy until there was no other choice. If they passed out from lack of oxygen then so be it. They'd surface then at least.
And the time seemed to trickle past like sand in the worlds slowest hour glass. Each moment felt like it took a lifetime. Piper's focus narrowed down to the feeling of Annabeth's hand in hers, warm and familiar. And onto the feeling of Percy, body limp in her grasp.
She closed her eyes, desperately trying to think of anything other than the need to draw in a lungful of air.
She could feel the panic rising, feel the desire to suck in a breath building. If she didn't soon the darkness would swallow her. She'd black up and let go of Percy and rise to the surface.
That was fine. That was fine that was the only way she was willing to let go of Percy. She opened her eyes again, her vision blurred from the lack of air- Annabeth's eyes were starting to flutter closed. They were both slipping.
Piper's gaze shifted to Percy, Percy who was too still. Her skin was still so very red, and she was too still. Piper was sure she was crying but the tears mixed with the water.
She shifted, letting go of Percy's arm and pushing herself closer. She wanted one thing before she was forced to surface.
She pressed her lips to Percy's, closing her eyes and letting go completely, she felt Annabeth's grip on her hand loosening too.
And then it was as if Piper was suddenly in a bubble of air and an arm was suddenly wrapping around her, her eyes shot open, meeting the familiar sea green gaze of the daughter of Poseidon.
She was kissing Percy.
And Percy was kissing her back.
...
Percy had had many strange and unpleasant wake up calls. And she'd had some real nice ones too. But this? Well, she wouldn't mind waking up to this every day. She had woken to the feeling of lips pressing against her own, soft lips- and someone was gripping her arm tightly too. And they were underwater.
And Percy had created a bubble of air without really thinking, a bubble surrounding them and she'd moved her free arm, wrapping it around the girl kissing her.
When her eyes had opened Percy had both felt her heart soar and sink at the same time.
Piper. Piper was kissing her. Piper's lips were on hers and she felt like she was floating.
But- but Annabeth what about Annabeth? And then Piper was looking at her too, those beautiful eyes which always seemed to change color staring into hers- and she pulled back.
"You're awa-" Piper didn't get to finish what she was about to say because she was being shoved aside and Annabeth was suddenly on top of Percy, hands pressing against her cheeks, and Annabeth was kissing her too. Annabeth was kissing her and once again Percy felt like she was floating and melting and was this Elysium or- whatever paradise she was due? Because surely for her to be getting those kisses she had to have died and went to paradise. That was the only explanation right?
Then Annabeth was pulling back too, sitting back. "Sorry Pipes, but you got a kiss-"
"No, no I get it." Piper was sat on Percy's other side, both of them were looking at Percy as if she was something precious.
"I-" Percy swallowed hard. "I am so confused right now."
"You're an idiot." Annabeth's voice was firm.
"Yep. But you're our idiot." Piper added. "And you kissed back."
"I- of course I-" Percy like her face was on fire suddenly, "I- I don't want to get betwee-"
"Percy your mom is in a poly relationship with your dad and Ruby." Annabeth pointed out. "Piper and I want that. With you."
"We tried to ask you out but-"
"You- no you didn't-" Percy blinked, "Did you?"
"Yes." Annabeth and Piper chorused the word at once. "We were asking you out."
"I thought-"
"We know what you thought." Piper rolled her eyes "But you were wrong. Do you like us?"
"I- yes."
"Then it's simple." Annabeth's voice was firm. "Us three against the world. The way it was before you misunderstood things. Except with much more kissing-"
"I would like more kissing-"
"Later-" Annabeth held up a hand. "No, no. We can kiss and all later. Percy... what the Hades-"
"... I could ask you the same thing." Percy blinked. "Wait- wait where am I? How are you two here?"
"Camp." Annabeth said calmly, "You're at Camp, and we came here because of Bianca."
"I- why would you come to camp because of Bianca?"
"She came here because of a dream or something." Annabeth launched into an explanation and Percy listened carefully, her stomach sinking. Alina's plan was a good one. It could have majorly screwed things up. Could have caused a war that would weaken both the Greeks and Egyptians, after which the winner would face off against the Titans... and all sides would end up weakened.
Oh Percy could bet that she knew who was behind all of this.
"I am going to shove that annoying assholes head in a blender if it's the last thing I do." she grumbled the words, shaking her head.
"Huh?" Piper blinked, "Who's?"
And so Percy told her side of the story. She paused every few moments to answer questions, and Annabeth and Piper had a lot of those. Still eventually Percy did manage to get to the end of it-which earned her several blows from Piper and Annabeth, who were not impressed at the idea of her facing down with a Titan on her own.
"Hey- don't be mean. Anyway, like I said we jumped through the portal, I felt the sword hitting me and then nothing."
"Luke and Artemis must have brought you here." Annabeth said after a moment, "It's the most logical place for them to bring you. Chiron is an expert healer and they don't know that water heals you like we do."
"I still feel rough." Percy admitted, rubbing her shoulder. "I should probably avoid magic for a day or two at least."
"At least you have other tricks up your sleeves." Piper gave a cheeky grin before, "If Luke actually helped you does that mean that I'm not allowed to order him to piss himself?"
"Piper!"
"What?" Piper gave her most innocent look, "I didn't say anything wrong."
"No ordering him to piss himself." Ananbeth paused, "But uh, I'm going to punch him. Just to even the score between us."
"Of course." Percy nodded. "I could hardly begrudge you that."
"He did seem pretty worried about you. Which is why he's not getting stabbed."
"How reasonable of you." Piper nodded sagely.
"I know right- You okay Percy?" Because Percy had lifted her head, looking up towards the surface, where a shoe was sinking into the water above them.
"Looks like someone wants our attention." Percy let out a little huff. "Let's give them what they want then girls."
