Chapter 10
Meanwhile, at a Vegas deli, Diaval is currently in the kitchen posing as a chef. He had followed Prince Philip and the Three Good Fairies to this location.
Diaval's ears pricked at the faint sound of Maleficent's voice.
"My lady," He said.
"Diaval!" Maleficent called.
The raven-haired young man follows her voice, searching the area.
"Diaval, here! Diaval!"
Diaval rushes over to a counter. Grabbing a dish rag, he pulls the lid off a pot. Maleficent's face appears inside a hot soup.
"Finally, finally," Maleficent sighed, fanning herself.
"I'm boiling in here." She exhales.
"Have you found her yet?" Maleficent inquired.
"I'm afraid I haven't, my lady." Diaval responds.
Maleficent sighs. "Time is of the essence. We can't risk those three goody-two-shoes and that valiant prince bringing the girl back."
"They shan't, my lady. I swear it!" Diaval agrees.
"No, they shall not. I intend to make absolutely certain of that." Maleficent replied, slyly.
"But, my lady, how exactly did you…" Diaval looks up to see a chef staring strangely at him.
"Ever end up tasting so…mmm, delicious?" He makes a gesture of tasting the soup.
Suddenly, three poisoned red apples pop up in the stew. Diaval takes notice.
"Poisoned apples, my lady?" He asked, surprised.
"You mean, you want me to…" Diaval makes a slitting throat gesture.
"Diaval, don't you see my darling, if there's ever going to be a happily ever after for us;" Maleficent cooed, with fake sweetness.
"Happily ever after?" Diaval repeats. "Oh, my lady…" He sighs dreamily.
"Oh, Diaval, it won't be so difficult." Maleficent assured. "It's just one bite. That's all it takes. One small bite, to drag her into a deep, dark, and troubled sleep. And when the clock strikes twelve, that precious little pretender to my land will be gone." Maleficent chuckles darkly.
Diaval accepts all three of the apples. He puts them inside his bag.
"It shall be done, my lady, I swear it." Diaval said, winking.
"Yes, you'll find Aurora at a hotel called Circus, Circ…" Maleficent's sentence is cut off because a cook had taken a spoonful of soup.
"My lady?" Diaval asked, looking around carefully.
But alas, there's no sign of Maleficent. Nevertheless, Diaval decides to take his mistress' advice and began to concoct a plan, to get Aurora to eat a poisoned apple.
Meanwhile; Flora, Fauna, Merryweather and Philip sat at a table. They're talking about how to navigate through this strange land and locate Aurora.
"What an unusual land we're in," Fauna comments.
"I'll say," said Merryweather. "We've searched everywhere and still no sign of Aurora."
"And these peasants looked at us very strange," Philip adds. "It's like they've never seen a prince or three fairies before."
"Let's not lose heart," Flora assures the group.
"We'll search every hotel there is and find Aurora. The sooner we do that, the sooner we can all return home."
Fauna, Merryweather and Philip nod. Then suddenly, Merryweather is in deep thought.
"Well, there's one other thing I like to bring up." The blue fairy suddenly speaks up.
"What is it, dear?" Fauna questioned.
"Have you noticed that man dressed in black, following us?" Merryweather asks.
"No. What are you saying, Merryweather?" Flora asks.
"I believe that's Diaval, Maleficent sent him after us to thwart our plans." Merryweather responds.
Flora ponders over this.
"You know, you could be right." She agreed.
"There's no doubt that Maleficent would do everything in her power to prevent Aurora from returning to Auradon. Even if it means sending her right-hand henchman after us."
"So, what do we do?" Philip asks.
"We'd keep a vigilant eye out for Diaval." Flora informed. "I don't know what he has up his sleeve, but whatever it is, it's not pleasant."
"Precisely," said Merryweather, nodding. Fauna and Philip agree.
Meanwhile, at Circus, Circus; Aurora is looking at the fish in the aquarium in the hotel lobby. As Jack enters, he sees Sam gesturing for him to come over. He approaches the receptionist.
"Sorry," Sam apologizes, then laughs.
"What happened?" Jack asked.
"She has no driver's license, no passport." Sam informed, with a hint of frustration. "I can't even find this place she comes from."
"What place?" Jack inquired.
"Auradelle," said Sam.
"Auradon," Jack corrected.
"Whatever," Sam scoffed. "I've called every travel agent, every airline. I'm not sure if it's a country or a city."
"It can't be a state," Jack pointed out.
He and Sam glance at Aurora who's twirling around. Her behavior even gets odd looks from passerby's.
"More like a state of mind," Sam comments.
"And she told me it's just beyond the meadows of joy and the valley of contentment." Sam said sarcastically, mocking Aurora. "What is that all about?"
"I honestly don't know," Jack answered. He sighs.
"So, what are you going to do with her?" Sam asks.
"I'll just take it from here," said Jack. "Thanks for all your help."
"You're welcome." Sam replied. Jack goes over to Aurora as Sam answers phone calls.
"Let's go, Aurora." Jack takes Aurora's hand and she stops twirling.
"Where we're going?" Aurora asked.
"Let's just go," The two teens head for the hotel's exit.
Philip and the three fairies made it to Circus, Circus. Of course, Diaval follows very stealth-like.
They scanned the premises, until Merryweather spotted Aurora coming out of the building with another boy.
"There she is! Aurora!" Merryweather points her wand in the direction Aurora is going.
Flora and Fauna followed her gaze and sure enough, they spotted the princess. The two other fairies gasp.
"That is her! Good work, Merryweather. Let's go, come Philip." Flora declared. She, Merryweather and Fauna used their magic to make themselves small.
"Where do you see Aurora?" Philip asked.
Diaval sees a similar looking blonde like Aurora riding a bicycle.
"Over there, run to her! Not a moment to lose!" Diaval declared.
"Ah! Princess Aurora!" Philip takes off running, going after the Aurora look-alike on the bicycle, while the fairies flew off towards the real Aurora.
While Diaval is peeved that the fairies succeeded in finding Aurora, at least he managed to send Philip on a goose chase. It is time for him to set the plan into motion.
A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter!
In case you're all wondering, Maleficent will use a spinning wheel to trick Aurora (after Diaval fails to poison Aurora with the two apples) later in the story.
I was going to have Sam say "Arendelle" as a reference to Frozen, but I thought it'd be funny if Sam mispronounces Auradon.
Another change is that Aurora doesn't interact with a divorcing couple.
Anyways, coming up, Jack lets Aurora go with loose change (like Robert did with Giselle in Enchanted). Only for Aurora to be reunited with Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather and Jack realizing that Aurora won't survive on her own (plus, it'd be wrong of him to let her go behind Oswald's back). He'll tag along with Aurora and the three fairies.
Stay tuned, more to come!
