Chapter 1 - One Fateful Night

I guess this would be the part of the story where I'd introduce myself. Hi, my name is Lukas Hart, and I'm just your regular seventeen year old who lived off playing video games non-stop with my friend Dylan. We were currently playing the ever so infamous game Minecraft, I know, I clearly haven't grown up, but what can I say? Minecraft is an absolute classic and has been one of my favorite video games ever since I was ten years old. My day had gone on as normal, I went to school, took care of my chores for the day and my homework. Little did I know, what would happen later in the night would forever change my life...

"Come on, Dylan!" I exclaimed through the microphone as we were bombarding the ender dragon with arrow after arrow. "Just a few more!"

"Lukas, I'm running low on health!" Dylan called back. "I don't think I can take another hit."

Just when I thought the ender dragon was done for, an enderman suddenly snuck up behind me and began attacking my minecraft character as I too was starting to run low on health. With my diamond sword equipped, I fought back as the enderman soon died, letting out its piercing screech.

"Hold on!" Dylan said with a glimmer of hope in his voice. "I think I've got him!"

And he was right, when I looked over at him, he was firing his arrows rapidly as the ender dragon's heath bar lowered down with every hit, until...

"YES! LET'S GO!"

We had finally beaten the ender dragon! and the entire game to an extent. The ender dragon exploded in its usual purple glow, until it was no more. As we collected the XP, we were still hyped up about having beaten the game. As we jumped into the portal, the credits came rolling up slowly.

"Oh man, I didn't think we were going to do it for a second." Dylan said with relief.

"Me too, to be honest." I replied,

I then glanced at the clock on my computer, which said 1:30 AM, I knew it was getting late. My mom would have my head if she caught me up this late on a school night. "Hey, Dylan. I think I'm gonna log off now. It's getting pretty late."

"Yeah, I think I'll log off as well. Catch you later, man." Dylan replied, before he disconnected from our Discord call.

After shutting down the computer, I slipped into bed and pulled the covers up to my chin. Sleep was already starting to claim me, and my eyelids felt heavy. As I closed my eyes, I drifted into that blissful state between wakefulness and slumber. But just as I was about to fall into a deep sleep, a strange purple glow pierced through my curtains, casting an eerie light into my room. Groggily, I rubbed my eyes and sat up. What could that be? I wondered. It wasn't a typical sight at this time of night.

I pulled the covers off of me and opened the curtains and saw what looked like a purple glow coming from the backyard, but since it was dark and my vision was blurry from my tiredness, I was unable to see the source of the glow. Curiosity soon got the better of me as I put on my shoes and black hoodie before I quietly made my way out of my room, being careful not to wake my parents and siblings up. Opening the back door, I slowly walked into the backyard, determined to figure out the source of this strange glow. I then pulled out my phone from my pocket and used the flashlight feature to hopefully have a better chance of locating the source.

Eventually, I found out that the glow seemed to be coming from the shed, so I cautiously walked over to it and opened it, the door slowly creaked loudly as it opened, making me flinch and look back at the house, praying that my family were heavy sleepers, which in fact they were, because I didn't hear anyone waking up, much to my relief. I then made my way inside the shed, preventing myself from causing too much noise.

As soon as I stepped inside, I immediately saw the source of the glow, and once I saw it, I was so shocked that I dropped my phone out of my hand. A part of me didn't want to believe what I was seeing, but it looked too real for it to be a hallucination. Less than a few feet ahead of me, was what looked to be a glowing purple portal of some sorts, its swirling pattern was mesmerizing as I continued to stare at it in disbelief. I was internally freaking out as a million questions began circling my mind. How did this portal get here? What is it doing here? Is this even real?

But I would soon have an answer for that last question, as at that moment, the whole world started shaking like an earthquake as the equipment in the shed began vibrating around as the items on tables and shelves fell onto the floor, thus making more noise, even louder than the door creaking. But I had bigger problems to worry about besides my family scolding me for waking them up in the middle of the night. I turned around, but just when I was about to leave, I suddenly felt a strong force starting to pull me closer to the portal, it was as if a magnet was pulling me closer, and as much as I tried, I was unable to escape the magnetic force.

As I neared the portal, the whole world began flashing colors as everything began spinning the closer I got to the portal. I hoped that all of this was just some vivid nightmare and that I would wake up in bed safely, but that never happened. Suddenly, I began feeling light-headed and dizzy from seeing everything spinning around me, until finally. I couldn't handle it anymore and I promptly blacked out.
