"Hey Ames, get up!" Sonic yelled. "Egghead's at it again."
Amy groaned. "Hmm?" She wondered, starting to get with it. She barely had time to open her eyes before he gently shook her to wake her up.
"Amy, you gotta get up now." He ordered. "The entire squad is out trying to battle him. LET'S GO!" Sonic yelled, running out, her door still open.
Amy whimpered and got out of her hammock impressively quickly. She grabbed her hammer on the way out and ran to catch up to Sonic, an immense task. In mere seconds, they were at the same pace. As she prepared to swing her hammer, her right foot slipped from under her. "SONNNICCC!" She yelled, striking the back of her head on the ground.
"Amy!" He yelled. He ran to save her, but her eyes were closing. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten you up." Sonic apologized. "I'll get you back to safety. I was wrong." He scooped her up in his arms and started to leave the battle scene, also leaving Tails, Zooey, Knuckles, and Sticks. He had full confidence in them.
She looked up at Sonic. He looked straight back down at her, his face expressing nothing but sadness. "Please don't cry, Ames." He begged.
Almost immediately, Amy woke up to the sound of someone crying. It's not me this time. She observed. It's… a child? Amy felt someone holding her, preventing her from getting out of bed.
"It's alright, Ames." Sonic comforted her. Amy jolted around quickly and turned to face him. He stared back in shock. "Amy?" He gasped.
"Sonic!" She yelled. "Why are you in my bed?" Amy demanded.
"This isn't your bed." He argued. "It's ours." He grabbed a ring from the side table. "We're married, remember? Did you just have a nightmare, honey?"
"Phew. I thought… you got in here… I hit my head…" Amy panted.
"It's okay, honey. I love you." He reassured. Sonic kissed her cheek before tucking her back in. "I'll attend to Aurora."
"Who's Aurora?" Amy asked.
"She's our daughter, sleepyhead." Sonic teased. "You need to rest up. You've been up for 21 hours. Not recommended." He gently pushed her head back down to the pillow and kissed her forehead before leaving the room. It seemed that no sooner had she closed her eyes than Sonic returned with the cutest hedgehog child she had ever seen.
"Sonic! Is that our daughter?" Amy squeaked.
"Yep. All ours, Ames." He bragged. "Aurora's all good, just lonely. She's gonna stay with us tonight." Sonic knelt beside their bed and looked at Amy. "Wanna hold her? You've yet to remember her."
Amy took hold of her and saw her own eyes staring back at her. This time, Amy was the one to tear up. "Sonic, she's perfect." Amy cried.
"Well, although she's pink, she's my daughter too, so that's natural." He replied, sliding in bed next to her. "If you wanna hold her for the night, that's good with me. Sleep well, Ames."
Amy kissed his nose, nuzzling into him with her daughter in her arms.
When she woke up, boy did her head hurt. Obnoxious metal music blasted from speakers on all sides. Her entire team was stacked around her! Knuckles, Sonic, Tails, Zooey, and even Sticks were all piled up. The huge flatscreen in the room showed the time was 4:45AM, and the mess in the room was unbearable.
"Haha, looks like ya woke up, Ames." Sonic laughed, his speech barely recognizable.
"Sonic, where am I?" She demanded. "What's going on? Where's Aurora?"
"We partied so hard last night, you wouldn't even BELIEVE!" He joked. "Right, you were there. Who's Aurora? I don't think she was invited."
"Aurora! She's OUR DAUGHTER, Sonic!" She yelled.
"Hey look, I'm pretty wasted too, but if you're telling me we have a daughter, you're gonna hate the hangover. Night's still young, so are you, beautiful." He flirted. Amy noticed at this time, they were not yet married. "Is everything alright? You're not looking so good."
Her vision blurred as Sonic started reaching for her. "Amy? Talk to me! Your eyes are closing! AMY!"
That was the last she saw of him while he was young. She woke up in familiar circumstances, just in a new way.
"Of course Wesley, come in!" She greeted. Wesley? Who was the guy coming in the house with her daughter? She knew his name, but why? And she was in Sonic's house! It looked much different since last time.
"I knew you'd visit, son." Sonic added, closing the door behind his daughter and her husband. "I've long been awaiting this. What brings you here?"
"We could not wait to tell you this any longer." Wesley began.
A striking gold hedgehog, Amy observed. He doesn't look very young.
"I, of course, already informed my father of this." He continued.
"Mom, Dad, I'm expecting. You're gonna be grandparents." Aurora concluded, carrying on her father's tradition of not waiting before speaking.
Amy had no idea what to make of that. Her legs buckled underneath her. "Catch her!" Aurora yelled to Sonic and Wesley. They quickly ran behind Amy as she collapsed, lying her safely down on the couch.
"That was a close one, grandpa." Wesley joked.
Beeping was the next Amy heard. From a machine, one she'd heard before. Perhaps one beep every second. She opened her eyes to find Sonic, Wesley, and Aurora staring down at her, all now much older. Many medical staff were present, but stood motionless.
"Amy, I could have lost you." Sonic cried, reaching down to hug her, albeit leaning heavily on his cane to do so.
She naturally accepted this hug. Why does my head hurt? She wondered. Wesley and Aurora stood aside.
"Sir, I'm going to ask you once to not touch her." A doctor warned.
Sonic let go of her and returned to where the other two were standing.
Just then, Sonia and Knuckles walked into the room. Like the rest, they were both also much older, but still noticeably the same people she knew. Knuckles carried a small child in his arms, a hedgehog with radiant fuschia fur. Although he could not have been more than 8 years old, he looked almost identical to Sonia.
Amy had to put away all her questions about what was happening. Truth is, she had no idea. "Sonia, is that your grandson?" She asked. Why such a STUPID first question? She racked her brain.
"No," Sonia and Knuckles replied at the same time. "He's yours."
"How is this possible?" Amy asked, still drowsy.
"All will be explained to you." Wesley assured her.
Sonic began recounting her story. "Six hours ago, you went under emergency surgery for a brain aneurysm. Within a half hour of waking up to what you see now, you were in a state dangerously close to death. I'd imagine you literally saw your life flash before your eyes. You seem to know me, Aurora, Wesley, Knuckles, and especially Sonia."
"Come on! I wanna hug Grandma! Let me go, Uncle Knuckles!" The child yelled, trying to break free from Knuckles. Knuckles still retained much of his strength, even at his age.
"Impermissible." The doctor concluded coldly.
"Lazarus." Amy said. Why is the name so familiar?
"You seem to remember, alright." Wesley picked up. "Lazarus is your grandson, already six years old. As your daughter and I said some weeks ago, he will soon have a younger sister. We have since decided on the name Rose."
Amy's eyes teared up as Sonic continued telling everything. "Turns out she is also gonna be pink like you, Amy. I guess pink fur's the thing. But anyway, this is the final time you wake up so rapidly. Your life's most memorable moments just played before you. You've lived a fantastic life, Amy. When we're home, could you tell us what you saw? We'd love to hear it."
She considered that. All of her replays had one common theme, Sonic. She could feel a trace blush on her cheeks. Had her circulation improved, it would have shown. Being sixty didn't do her much good. She made her decision and looked at Sonic, her lifelong sweetheart.
"No, I don't think I will."
CONCLUSION
{Honestly, this one took me long enough! My free writing schedule has reduced significantly since entering university, but that is still no excuse for the enormous amount of time I took on this. Fanfiction is also blocked there, making this much more difficult than it needs to be. Still, I've got a few more good ideas, so I look forward to more writing!}
