Author's Note

With Revan, one of the most exciting characters in the Star Wars universe was created. I've never been so fascinated by a character's career and I've never spent more hours on any Wookiepedia page than Revan's. But one part of his story was never implemented as a real story, but was always only mentioned in passing or explained in non-fiction books: his backstory. His younger years, the war against the Mandalorians and his fall to the dark side are some of the most important and fascinating chapters in an already great story. When the Expanded Universe was ended by Disney in 2014, it was clear to me that it would probably always stay that way. But one day I discovered the fan author Handof-Thrawn45, who had made it his mission to close the loose ends in the Expanded Universe and continue the stories after Episode 6. Although he has never published stories about the Old Republic era to this day, seeing how the Expanded Universe was kept alive by fans gave me the incentive to do something similar. And what better place to start with than with Revan's backstory. And here it is now. A story about Revan (known at the time by his real name Ken Rav, since he only gave himself the name Revan later (I got this information from John Jackson Miller's "Knights of the Old Republic" comic series)), he went from a relatively normal Jedi Knight to a determined, pragmatic warrior. Since this is my first book, I can't really do justice to this character, but if the readers of this book have even half as much fun as I did when writing it, then I think I've probably done something right.

Dedication

Revan was originally created as the main character for the role-playing game "Knights of the Old Republic" and I would like to thank everyone at BioWare for developing this great game and creating such an unforgettable character. I also owe them thanks for continuing his story in the MMO "The Old Republic" in such an exciting way and bringing it to a worthy end (I know that this is controversial). I would also like to thank everyone at Obsidian Entertainment who worked on "Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith-Lords" and provided such good templates for Revan's backstory. Also a big thank you to Drew Karpyshyn for his great novel. Last but not least, I would like to thank all the authors and employees at Lucasfilms who contributed to building this gigantic, fascinating, fun and great universe. And of course to George Lucas himself, to whom we have to thank that this even exists.
