Chapter 86
"Anyway here's the overview of your mission this time, I call it a friend in need is a friend indeed." Ortho explained. Ortho was a hologram beside the locked door.
"A friend you say, I'm fairly certain it's just us and the Phantoms in here." Rook said.
"Are you sure, listen closely." Ortho sang.
"Help me!" A feminine voice cried out.
Everyone looked shocked as their heads snapped towards the wall of cages.
"I hear someone, they're calling for help." Odette said as she pressed her ear to the nearest cage to her.
"There's a researcher with an ID card trapped in one of these cages. Now the temperature in those cages aren't exactly human friendly. So you might wanna get her out before she turns into a popsicle." Ortho giggled.
"You're not serious." Vil gasped.
"Yup, rescuing people is part of the whole hero deal. Best of luck to you." Ortho wished then disappeared again.
"Ma'am could you please speak up so we can find you?" Epel called out as he did the same as Odette who now how listened to a few cages.
"Right here! Someone!" She called out as she knocked the cage.
Her knocking caused several Phantoms around her to growl.
"All the cages around us are making a racket." Epel grumbled as he covered his ears.
"How troublesome, the Phantoms must be getting agitated now that they're aware of our presence." Vil remarked.
"The cage walls are quiet thick if we can hear the researcher she must be nearby." Rook said now copying Odette.
"We gotta find her ASAP." Odette said as she moved to the next cage.
Odette found her and the rescued her but when they did there was also a small Phantom inside with her. As Vil, Rook and Epel killed the Phantom, Odette calmed down the researcher and secured the new ID card from her. Her ID worked on the door.
Once the researcher was fully calmed down she went back the way they had came and the group continued their way down the emergency staircase.
"I can't believe them!" Epel exclaimed.
"They're completely unbelievable!" Odette echoed as they continued down the freezing stairs but she barely noticed because she was so mad.
"I think Leona won't get a chance at Idia if they get there first." Rook chuckled.
"You're right about that, you two can give him an earful when we see him but for now you need to calm down." Vil said.
"Yeah." Epel sighed taking a deep breath, Odette nodded and did the same.
"We're quite a ways down from the entrance and it's only getting colder." Vil commented.
"There's an updraft coming from beneath us." Rook remarked as he looked down at the endless hole in the center.
"It's kinda chilly even with my dorm uniform on." Epel confessed as he rubbed his arms.
'I hope Grim's okay.' Odette thought as she said. "I probably would've froze by now if I hadn't borrowed one of your dorm uniforms."
"Our uniforms aren't just resistant to the cold they're also highly resistant to magic. If you weren't wearing one the blot would've affected you by now, and doesn't it have a beautiful design? It looks most magnique on you Odette. Part of our uniform's distinctive style is the hanging sleeves made with copious amounts of fabric. They flutter beautifully with every motion, with such voluminous sleeves you would have no trouble warming a chilly friend, don't worry, we'll find Grim. Let us have faith in that and press onward." Rook explained as he waved his arm around making Odette smiled.
"That's good to know, just one more reason it's my favorite uniform." Odette replied.
"You're favorite?" Vil questioned raising an eyebrow and smirking.
"Sh, don't tell the others but yes." Odette smirked back.
"Why do I feel like he's going to tell the other Housewardens?" Epel joked.
No sooner had they finished laughing when rambling began to fill the air and staircase began to shake terribly.
"An earthquake?" Vil gasped bracing against the wall.
"Ah! I'm gonna fall off the stairs." Epel cried out as the rest of the group grabbed for him.
Then shaking continued but the rambling got louder.
"This is no earthquake its,…" Rook began but stopped when they caught slight of a monstrously huge rock like creature.
"What is tarnation, is that mountainous rock monster?" Epel chocked out.
"Could that be one of the original Phantoms?" Vil gasped.
"It matches the description the staff in the control room gave us. I believe this is the stone Phantom the Earth Titan." Rook explained.
"I'll slow it down, Oh ice freeze that monster's feet to the ground hah!" Vil announced as he pulled out his pen and aimed for the feet of the Titan.
His feet froze over and the Titan growled at them, glaring at them then broke the ice as he lifted his feet.
"Dang it shook off Vil's spell like it was nothing." Epel exclaimed.
"Jupiter! Where are you!?" The Titan growled at them.
"Rrgh, we'd better retreat! The map says the Thunder Spear hanger's just ahead!" Vil shouted pointing to a door the was behind the Titan.
"Oui! I shall cover the rear. Everyone to the hanger!" Rook ordered as he aimed his pen at the massive Titan.
They ran towards the Titan. Odette and Epel slide on the remaining ice and went under the Titan as Vil and Rook went around the Titan squeezing between it and the wall.
"There it is now!" Vil called out as he reached the double metal doors.
"Odette, Rook hurry up!" Epel shouted as he opened the doors.
They soon slammed the door behind them and locked it behind them as the entered the Hanger. The room was large twice the size of the rooms the groups had been in before. There was still a large screen on the far wall, with a control panel in front of it and a large table in the middle of the room. Panels ran around the outside of the room.
They began to search the room for the Thunder Spear.
Banging soon resonated throughout the room.
"The door's shaking something fierce is the Titan ramming into it? Aw crud! It's gonna break it down." Epel called out.
"Where is the Thunder Spear?" Rook asked as they continued to look.
"We're looking let's see there's a control panel on the wall at A-16." Vil replied as he reached the panel and pushed on it.
"I heard something open." Rook said as he came closer.
'Something's glowing in there.' Odette thought as he gasped. "Is that light what I think it is?" The panel slide open to reveal a massive golden spear.
"Gosh!" Epel breathed.
"So this is the Thunder Spear." Vil murmured.
"That's thing's taller than Vil! How're we supposed to use a spear that big?" Epel asked.
"Gwarh! Come out!" The Titan snarled from outside.
"No time to puzzle it out, let's just activate it." Vil said as he stuck the encryption key chain into the panel.
"Code: Titanomachia. Critical outbreak of a level A emergency recognized. All technomantic circuits released Charge level at 100% Activating Thunder Spear." The Navi spoke.
The Thunder Spear began to glow and small lighting began to crackle off of it as the air around the tip began to form a circle around the tip. The tip had the most intense glow.
"Gracious the amount of power it exudes I'm getting goosebumps." Rook gasped.
"Please register user's fingerprints place your hand on the panel." The Navi requested as a medium sized square flipped up and out from the panel.
There was more banging and growling from the door.
"Vil hurry! The door ain't gonna hold much longer." Epel yelled as he looked over at the door.
"I'm well aware." Vil snapped back as he placed his hand on the square.
"We need to keep an even head here, yelling isn't going to help. We've got the Spear, all we've got to do is following the instructions." Odette remained them in an even voice despite her heart pounding.
"User registration complete Safety lock released activating targeting support mode." The Navi announced and the squared disappeared.
"Rgh! It's heavy, I'll have to levitate it with magic." Vil said as he tried to do just that.
"Where are the humans? Gwah!" The Titan snarled as the doors finally gave out and the Titan stood in the doorway.
"The Titan's in the hanger!" Rook shouted as they all looked at the growling Titan.
"Agh! I'm trying to control this thing with magic, but it's too powerful I can't get it steady. Epel, Odette and I will hold it in place. Rook you aim it." Vil ordered.
"Oui, a hunter could ill afford to disappoint in that regard. Let the Titan hunt begin." Rook announced as he took the weight of the tip.
Vil stood at the base with Odette on the opposite side in front of her, Epel stood on the same side as Vil but in front of Odette. With the four of them it was more manageable but it still a bit of a struggle.
The Spear glowed even brighter, the lighting crackled stronger and louder as Rook aimed it straight at the Titan's chest and Vil fired the Spear. The Titan dove at them snarling.
The Titan's snarled turned into a scream as he was blasted out of the room, passed the stairway and into hole that was in the center of the stairway shaft.
Thanks for reading and sticking around. I hope you enjoyed it. This was a pretty straight forward chapter so nothing to exciting. I still can't believe the Ignihyde Arc has reached 30 chapters. I still predicted it'll be 40 chapters. I hope to see you next time.
