Kagome felt her doubts slithering inside her like hungry snakes. The sense of everything was fading, and even the steps they were taking, hers and InuYasha's, brought with them the sinister idea of something suffocating hope. They had been walking for so long with nothing changing; not even InuYasha's behavior, as he walked ahead without even looking back to her.

They would never find the way out. That sentence took possession of her mind, one she envisioned as a web encroaching on them. She began to see in the shadows, in the waves of InuYasha's hair, in the lines of her own hands. The web was everywhere, then it swallowed her.
