Street was in a fog as he stepped through the unlocked door of the apartment. The ride back felt like it took a lifetime but now that he was here, he wished he would have had a bit longer to pull himself together.

He did do a lot of thinking, however, and he came to the conclusion that telling JJ about the kiss was the right thing to do. He didn't want to tell her. He was afraid of how much more damage this could do to them.

His hands began to shake just thinking about her reaction but he knew she deserved the truth… well, she didn't deserve this happening to begin with but since Street screwed up, he now owed her the truth.

He would just explain that it was a mistake that would never happen again, and pray that she could forgive him. He didn't want to lose her and the thought of doing so caused his chest to ache, but he had already disrespected her too much. Lying to her would just add to it and that was the last thing he wanted to do.

The apartment was mostly dark, save for the light above the kitchen counter. Street wondered if JJ had already gone to bed but then he heard the sound of running water.

Okay, so JJ was in the shower. That gave him a few more minutes to think about what he was going to say. He needed to apologize for the fight earlier too and everything he had said to her then… everything he had been blaming her for. On the drive home, he had been struck with a realization.

After Nate had been killed, Street had always blamed himself. He always felt like he should've lied to him about what they had on Nolan, so that he wouldn't have gone off on his own to find evidence… but he hadn't.

Now that months had passed and JJ had helped him see the situation more clearly, he realized the stress he had been under and that he had been so focused on bringing down Nolan that it was clouding his judgement.

Maybe that was the case with JJ. Scratch had been torturing her team for so long, and of course she would want to take him down. She had been under so much pressure to get it done. She didn't get in that SUV with the intentions of driving into an ambush. Yes, she knew what the man was capable of but her judgement could've been clouded just like Street's had…

… and couldn't the same thing be said about what just happened with Chris? In that case, how could Street continue to blame JJ for a decision she made under duress when he had just done the same thing? He just hated the circumstances it took for him to see it that way.

At first, Street was so deep in thought that he hadn't really paid attention to the time but then he began to realize that a while had passed since he had come home, and the shower could still be heard running. He stood from the sofa, trying to tamp down the bit of fear that just made his gut clench… but something was wrong.

He quickly cleared the distance between the living room and the bathroom, stopping at the partially closed door as he listened for anything out of the ordinary. At first he just heard the water, but then there was something else. It was clear JJ was crying and the sound shot Street right in the heart.

He knocked on the door, not wanting to startle her by just rushing in but after receiving no response, he opened it all the way.

Their shower was a walk-in with a frosted door, and through the glass he could make out JJ's form crumpled on the floor. "JJ?"

Worried she may be hurt, he eased open the door and saw her with her knees pulled against her chest as she sobbed harshly. He wasn't completely sure that she had even registered his presence, but he didn't hesitate to drop to his knees and pull her shaking body into his arms.

The water hit him instantly and he shivered. He had no idea how long JJ had been in here but her skin was cold due to the freezing water. He felt her body shudder but couldn't tell if it was from the temperature or the violent sobs. Either way, he needed to get her out.

Keeping one arm wrapped around her, he used the other hand to turn off the water. He then lifted the blonde completely into his arms and maneuvered them both out of the small space. She was soaking wet, and he was now too but he mentally kicked himself for not coming to check on her sooner.

Her sobs had quieted a bit but he could tell from the way she went practically limp in his arms that she was completely exhausted. He carried her into the bedroom, gently depositing her on the bed before covering her up and sliding in beside of her.

He quickly wrapped her in his arms again, pulling her as close to him as possible to both warm and comfort her. "I've got you, Jay." He whispered the words into her hair, heart clenching as she gripped at his clothes to get even closer.

The guilt that he had shoved to the back of his mind moments earlier promptly came back and smacked him in the face as he realized that while he had been off kissing Chris, JJ was in here alone and crying herself sick. He squeezed her even tighter, murmuring an apology over and over again, though she didn't know half the reason for it .

It didn't matter, though. What did matter to Street was that he was the reason of her current state. She may not have known what he had just done but she did know everything he had said to her hours ago, everything he had blamed her for before storming off.

JJ's cries had dissipated so that Street could barely hear her anymore, but the sobs that had wracked her small body minutes ago would haunt Street for quite awhile. Tears sprang to his own eyes and he buried his face in her hair again knowing he was the reason for her torment.

When they first met, JJ was used to bottling up her feelings and assuring that she was fine no matter the circumstances but throughout their time together, Street had managed to break through some of those walls. Up until the past few months, she would open up to him, trusting him enough to show when she wasn't truly fine. Still though, he could count on one hand the number of times he had seen her openly sob… but even those few didn't compare to her anguished cries tonight.

Sensing that she was calming down, Street rubbed his hand up and down her back, still whispering reassurances in her ear. Though he wished the circumstances were different and that he could take away JJ's pain, he had missed the feeling of her in his arms.

It had been a while. Even after that hug two weeks ago, their physical contact with each other had been limited. Sleeping in the same bed, they still kept distance between themselves that had never been there before. Street craved the intimacy that they used to share, JJ's touch always the strongest comfort for him.

Their contact seemed to be working for her right now and he was glad to be of some comfort. His heart still ached at the thought of what he had done earlier but he knew that telling her about it right now was a bad idea. She had been through enough tonight.

After a few more moments JJ shifted in Street's arms, lifting her head so that they were face to face. Street was glad that it was mostly dark in the bedroom so that he couldn't fully see the pain written in her eyes. He reached up to cup her cheek, still wet with tears even though he wasn't quite sure how she could have any left.

They stayed like that for a moment, JJ hovering slightly above him before she leaned down and captured his lips with her own. Street was surprised by the action but he quickly returned the gesture, drawing her closer to him and deepening the kiss.

It quickly became urgent, JJ rolling back and pulling Street so that he was now hovering above her. He had been perfectly satisfied to let her take what she needed from him but it was clear she had other plans.

He fused their lips together again, one of his hands on her jaw to keep her in place while his other arm supported his weight. He could taste her salty tears and wished more than anything that he could ease the pain that caused them.

Guilt still burned in his gut but he didn't want to pull away from this moment, so he kissed JJ harder, allowing a little more of his weight to press her body into the mattress.

Her hands roamed up and down his wet clothes, and the feeling made him shiver. He grabbed both of her hands in one of his as she began to unfasten his belt. "JJ, are you sure?" He wanted this more than anything but he also didn't want to take advantage of JJ's mental state right now if she wasn't thinking too clearly.

Even in the lack of light he could see her nod. "Jim, I need you right now."

Street was willing to give her anything she needed, so if right now it was him, then he was all hers. He released her hands, letting her continue the work on his belt as he began to kiss his way down her neck. His clothes were quickly shed and they were now skin to skin as their lips met once again.

Street settled his hips between her legs, swallowing her gasp as he immediately sank into her warmth. JJ grasped onto his back, her nails scraping his skin and pulling him even closer as he began to thrust steadily.

It had been so long and as they began to lose themselves in one another, it felt just like coming home.
