Here we are, the first chapter of my Miraculous Ladybug/Tangled the Series crossover tale. I've been working on this for a while now but I wanted to make sure it was ready so I can do a weekly update. This story will also have fan art from me as wellmand can be found on my deviant art page under Shagonsheart.
For the Tangled Series it takes place during season 2 where Varian is still in prison. For Miraculous, it takes place around the middle of season 4 (the ending will be very different) There was a little confusion with the episodes airing in a different order form the production order but the only effect that has on this fic is that "Hack San" and "Wish Maker" were suppose to air later and will be featured in this story.
Also since Miraculous Season 5 is currently still airing please mind the spoilers since some countries see it sooner than others.
This story is rated PG, maybe PG-13 in some chapters. Content warning for this chapter includes: Imprisonment, sickness, injury and neglect.
Chapter 1
Good Intentions
Marinette Dupain-Cheng, secretly known as Ladybug, was in a bit of a pickle. During an Akuma attack she found herself trapped in a cheese shop of all places. She was trying to hunt down this rare cheese after Adiran had admitted it was his favorite when Nino asked why his bag smelled funny. Fortunately she had arrived right on time for a big sale, unfortunately so did a lot of other Parisians. Who knew cheese that smelled like month-old gym socks would be so popular. As she was trying to grab a piece and fight her way to the register an explosion was heard outside the shop. The manager was quick enough to push the customers away from the door just as a lighting bolt shot down from above.
Marinette was trying to find a safe way out when a parked car was flung through the air and crashed right in front of the door trapping everyone inside. The shop was small, with only a small back room attached but it would do for a quick transformation. However the manager decided that would be the safest place to wait out the attack and ushered everyone in. Try as she might, she couldn't break free from the crowd and now she was trapped. She was now stuck in a crowded room with no way out and no were to hide so she could transform into her alter ego Ladybug.
The manager was not letting anyone out for safety reasons and just thought her attempts to leave was her just being nervous or claustrophobic. While she was pleased to see he was acting responsibly she was beyond frustrated that she couldn't get out without letting everyone here know she was Ladybug.
She looked down at her cell phone. She really didn't want to have to ask the Horse Kwami Kaalki or the Fox Kwami Trixx to use their powers without a holder again. The side effects could be pretty severe. Another explosion rocked the store and some of the frightened people screamed.
'No choice,' she thought as she texted the instructions to her spare phone in her room. 'Ladybug is needed now. Besides, the Lucky Charm can fix anything once the battle is won.' At least that's what she told herself justifying breaking the rules. For some reason she had a bad feeling about this.
But there was no time to think. Just as she planned a portal opened in the store room with a fake Pegabug instructing people to use it to get to safety. Once she was out she quickly hid and transformed into the real Ladybug ready to fight.
She still couldn't shake the feeling that she'd made a mistake.

Bunnyx sighed as she entered the multi dimensional pocket she called "The Burrow" As the holder of the Rabbit Miraculous one of her duties was to keep an eye on the time stream to make sure no anomalies shifted the course of history. Just a few moments ago she got one of those 'feelings'. She knew better than to ignore them though. The last time she felt one like this a stray white cat nearly destroyed the world.
She found the window she needed and took a quick look at what just happened. Her eyes widened with shock.
"Oh Mini Bug, what did you just do?"

In the kingdom of Corona, in the lowest and darkest depth of the castle a loud wet cough echoed through the dungeon hallways. The youngest prisoner, a terrorist by the name of Varian, lay on the wooden cot trying desperately to keep quiet. But with limited medical attention from the guards and almost inedible food Varian's small cold had been allowed to escalate.
It didn't help that the insufficient amount of food he was given caused him to lose so much weight the jail issued shackles had slipped off his wrist. The guards thought he was trying to escape and wound up welding an old rusty pair onto his wrist so that he couldn't use his alchemy to try and escape again. Oh yeah, his brilliant plan of starving himself to escape was thwarted by the oh so clever guards.
But his new restraints were so tight that the jagged edges bit into his wrists causing them to bleed if he moved them too much. The constant cuts and scrapes became red and swollen and with the fever Varian was getting he knew they were probably infected. But his pleas for help fell on deaf ears. He was convinced they had been told to let him quietly pass so he would no longer be a problem without the King having to get his hands dirty.
He remembered hearing him promise Rapunzel that he would help the poor boy. HA! Well, whenever she gets back she'll learn what it feels like to have someone break a promise to her. If she even thinks to ask about him but probably not. She never cared about him the first time why would she even spare him a thought now.
The worst part was his Dad was still trapped in the amber prison. He would be fine rotting in the dungeon for his crimes if only he had managed to free him. But he had failed and now they were both trapped. And no one was going to help either of them.
As he was falling deeper and deeper into despair he felt something soft brush against face. He turned around and smiled at the sight of his one and only friend in the whole world. A fat dirty raccoon that he lovingly called Ruddiger. He had been with him through everything since the day they met and the only one who never abandoned him. He didn't know how the little creature kept finding a way in but he was grateful for his comforting presence.
"Hey buddy." He said softly, not wanting to alert the guards. He was still fearful that if his little friend got caught they might just dispose of him as opposed to dumping him outside like they had done before. "Glad to see you're OK." As he petted the creature it raised its head to nuzzle his hand. "I don't know how you keep getting in but I'm glad you're here." The raccoon paused for a moment before scampering into a dark corner of the cell. A moment later he came back with a very familiar object in his mouth.
Varian's eyes widened as he saw what it was. "My goggles, you found them." he smiled as he took back one of his most prized possessions. "Thank you, thank you so much!" Ruddiger looked mighty proud of himself as he was rewarded with a hug. "I thought they threw these away." The guards had stripped him of all his personal belongings when was first brought in. It was the only thing he had left of his Mother and now all that remained of his old life.
Suddenly the sounds of heavy footsteps started coming from down the hall. Varian quickly gave the googles back to Ruddiger telling him to hide. A few moments later a group of four guards and one prisoner approached his cell. One had a ring of keys and a scroll in hand while the other three were leading the prisoner by a series of chains to ensure he would not escape.
"Alright kid, meet you new cellmate, Andrew of Sappoira." The guard with the keys said as he double checked the scroll. The prisoner was in his mid 20's, at least, possibly older. He was tall with dark messy hair held loosely in a bun. "I'm sure two terrorists like yourselves will enjoy each other's company." The man said with disdain clearly not caring that he was locking up a child with a much larger and much older criminal.
"This, is the Alchemist of Old Corona?" Andrew said, looking Varian up and down. "I don't know whether to be disappointed…" A sinister smile appeared on his face. "Or impressed." One of the guards hit him and told him to shut up.
Varian tried to look as intimidating as he could but with him being sick on his feet, barely any food in him as well as little to no sleep he wasn't fooling anyone. The main guard ordered him to move to the back of the cell while he brought out his massive key ring and started searching for the right key. As Varian began to step back he didn't notice that a strange glowing circle was starting to form behind him. Ruddiger screeched from his hiding place trying to alert the boy to the danger but suddenly the floor beneath him was gone.
Varian cried out, grabbing the only thing within reach. He clung to the rope that held the small cot to the wall trying desperately to hold on. But the swirling blue vortex had already swallowed his legs up to his knees and seemed to be pulling him in deeper. He could hear the sounds of keys being rattled as the guard frantically tried to open the cell but in his hast he dropped the ring at least twice.
"Help me!" The young alchemist cried as he tried in vain to pull himself up. But his red swollen wrist cried out in protest as the boy almost cried out in pain. Finally the pull became too strong and just as the guard managed to get the cell door open Varian lost his grip and vanished from sight, his raccoon jumping in after him.

Back in the Burrow Bunnyx took a deep breath.
"OK, this is an easy fix. I just need to go back and move the parked car so Mini Bug can escape the store and not ask the Kwamis to use their powers without holders." But as she tried to rewind the time window to enter it wouldn't let her pass through.
"What the?" She tried again with no luck. "So much for this being an easy fix." She went to another time window to see what was blocking her. She found the problem alright and couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"Oh no! No no no." She checked again hoping she misread the situation. "This time line has split and is merging with another dimension entirely!" This was bad and unfortunately extremely unpredictable. But for now the only thing she could do was watch and wait.

He didn't know what to expect when he fell through the portal but before he could even start to worry this would be the end of him the blue light ceased and he was dropped carelessly onto what looked like a pile of garbage. Varian groaned as he climbed out of an oversized trash bin nearly falling to the ground. As he looked up he could still see the strange blue hole in the sky. While he was relieved to be out of his prison cell he still had no clue how or why he had apparently just escaped.
A noise caught his attention as he saw what looked like a sleek steel horseless carriage flying past him at an unbelievable speed. Curiously he poked his head out of the alley and nearly collapsed at all the sights surrounding him.
There were buildings made of metal and glass, more of those horseless carriages, a large metal structure taller than any tower, lit up by small lights that stood out against the night sky. But his thoughts were interrupted as he saw a brightly colored being standing on top of one of the buildings holding a staff and shooting lightning at the people down below. Varian quickly ducked back to avoid being seen.
"What on Earth is all this? Where-where am I and what's going on?" As if to answer his question a large flat pane of glass on one of the buildings lit up to reveal a moving picture of a woman dressed in very strange clothes. The woman spoke of an attack by something called an Akuma but tried to reassure her viewers that someone named Ladybug and Chat Noir were now free and battling the dangerous being.
Varian's fevered mind was running a mile a minute as he tried to process everything he was seeing. "This place, these things aren't magic, this is science! Unbelievable science that…that just shouldn't exist." He could hear people screaming as they ran past the alley trying to get away. "Well, maybe not all of it is science." he said to himself, thinking of the glowing lighting man. "This definitely isn't Corona or anywhere near there so where…" but his thoughts were interrupted as he looked back at the glowing portal now starting to shrink.
"No no nonono…." He raced back climbing onto the dumpster desperately trying to reach it. "Wait, stop, let me back in!" He cried trying to jump back into it. "I can't be stuck here, I'm the only one who's trying to free my Dad!" The portal was now half the size it was when he fell in. "Please! I'll go back to prison just let me back-" but his pleas were ignored and the portal vanished as if it had never been there.
"NOOO!" Varian cried, still trying to jump as if hoping there was a fraction left that he could cling to. "Dad! Dad…daddy." But not a speck remained. Numbly he hopped down from the dumpster. This place that first seemed full of wonder and promise now felt cold and lonely. The cheers in the background as the heroes claimed victory were hollow as he tugged the rags of his prison uniform closer. 'This can't be happening.' he thought as he slunk down against one of the walls. "After everything I've gone through, everything I've had to endure…this just can't be it." He let out a scream of frustration and agony feeling more lost and alone than ever before. What was he going to do now?
He looked up as he felt a sudden surge of power coursing through the land. Items that were broken or destroyed during the battle were somehow fixed, good as new. Not only the objects and the buildings but the people who were hurt were now back on their feet cheering on some figure in the distance dressed in red. He glanced down at his cuffed hand still pulsing with pain and laughed bitterly.
"Once again I'm just ignored, even by a miracle." he said sadly to himself.
"That's because the Lucky Charm only restores things damaged by a certain time frame." Startled Varian looked around trying to find the owner of the voice. "This attack looks like it's only been going on for a few hours now. Your injuries, well… they're just too old."
Varian looked all around the alley but still couldn't find the voice even though it sounded close.
"I can't believe I'm finally home. Well, my home dimension at least, pretty sure this is France but whatever." Varian felt something land on his head. He reached up to find a familiar pair of goggles resting on his head like they had never left. And finally he saw it. The creature that had spoken to him was now hovering right in front of his face. "So much has changed since I've been gone. I'm so excited to see and learn all about it aren't you?"
Varian blinked sure he was seeing things. In front of him was a tiny floating raccoon with a very familiar expression on his face.
"Ruddiger?"
To be continued…
Next time: Varian may be trapped in a strange new world but he's not alone. Ruddiger also has a surprise for him. Something both Ladybug and Shadowmoth are very interested in.
