A Misunderstanding

Emily was at home looking through a book that contained pictures of many different kinds of cakes. She laughed and smiled at how they were crafted. She had to give these people credit. They certainly put a lot of heart and effort into making these cakes.

It's common knowledge that baking can be like art because in many ways, it is art. Treats are made in various shapes and designs and can be very colorful. But it's also still just as important that the food tastes good.

While Emily wasn't an artist, she still did her best to make her bakes goods look like animals, monsters, objects, and other things. And most times, when she would bake, she would experiment and improvise. But now it seemed like she had a challenge. Not that she minded. Maybe this would be fun. But this also needed to be done on time, meaning she had to take this seriously.

There was knocking on her front door. Emily got up to answer door. To her delight, Yugi was on her doorstep. "Yugi, hi."

"Hi, Emily," he returned. "I figured you would probably be baking today, so I thought I'd ask you if you needed anything." He certainly knew her very well. Well, Yugi and Emily are next door neighbors. Add that to the fact that they've been friends for a long time and it goes to show just how well they know each other. It was convenient that they lived next door from each other too because whenever one of them needed to borrow something, the other was willing and eager to share. That was why Yugi was here. He wondered if Emily would need extra ingredients like eggs, milk, butter, salt, or anything else.

At the moment, Emily didn't need any ingredients, but she was glad that Yugi was offering to help. "Actually, I could use your help with something."

"Anything," he told her.

She moved aside and invited him inside. "Come on in. I'll tell you about it."

So Yugi removed his shoes and stepped inside. "So what's going on?"

At first, Emily feared that if she told Yugi about her situation, he would misunderstand. But she figured if she explained the details, he would take it a little better. "Okay, so you know how I'm open to new ideas for recipes as well as requests from friends. Well, I was asked to bake a certain cake and I want it to be special.

Yugi noticed the books on Emily's countertop. "That explains the books, but exactly what kind of cake are you trying to make?"

"A wedding cake," she answered.

Yugi was dumbfounded. "What?"

"I said, 'a wedding cake.'"

"What?" Yugi asked again.

"I said –,"

Yugi suddenly placed his hands over Emily's shoulders and asked her, "Are you getting married!?"

This was what Emily was afraid of. She knew Yugi would have this reaction. But he had to know the truth. "No, I'm not getting married," she assured him.

But he wasn't listening. "Who is it? Is it Rafael? Did he put you up to this?" He groaned and said, "I can't believe this!"

Emily was on the verge of tears. "Please, just let me explain."

Yugi turned away and crossed his arms. "I don't think there's anything to explain. You said you would never marry him."

"And that's the truth," the blonde snapped. "You know me, Yugi."

There was a brief silence between the two of them. Yugi did know Emily. He knew she would never betray his love for her. As he looked at her and saw her hurt expression, he began to feel terrible for acting the way he did. He always hated seeing Emily look hurt and sad and it made him feel terrible that he was the one who hurt her.

But Emily understood why Yugi acted the way he did. It was because he loved her. But she always hated whenever they would argue. Granted, relationships aren't perfect and everyone had their disagreements, but Emily always hated fighting and arguing with her friends and family.

Yugi softened himself. "I suppose I should hear you out," he finally said.

Emily sighed in relief, glad that Yugi was giving her a chance. "Thank you," she sighed. "Like I said, I'm not getting married. No one is."

"Then why are you making a wedding cake?"

"It's just a silly request," she told him. "I was told someone wanted a wedding cake for their birthday." She didn't want to say who, because she feared Yugi would have another outburst.

Now Yugi was even more upset and embarrassed with himself for acting the way he did. "Oh, Emily, I'm so sorry for my reaction. I can't believe I was so…" he scoffed to himself. "It's just, when you said you were making a wedding cake, I though…" and he and Emily started laughing with each other. "I really am sorry."

"It's okay, Yugi," she assured him.

Gatomon came to the living room, rubbing her eyes. "What's all the commotion? I was having a nice catnap."

"Sorry, Gatomon," said Emily. "It was just a misunderstanding."

"But it's all straightened out now," said Yugi.

"Oh, good," the cat Digimon said.

The blonde cleared her throat. "Yugi, why don't we discuss this with the others tomorrow?"

"Okay," he agreed. "We can tell them about this; how you need help baking a wedding cake."

Emily smiled nervously. "I hope they won't misunderstand."

"I'm sure they won't as long as you explain the details," he assured her. "Well, I'd better get back to helping Grandpa, so I'll see you tomorrow."

"Okay," she replied. With that, Yugi got his shoes on and showed himself out the door.

Gatomon looked up at Emily. "So you told him about how you were asked to make a wedding cake?"

"Yeah, and just as I anticipated, he didn't take it very well," the blonde answered. "But I can't blame him. At least I was able to clarify the matter."

"Well, as long as he understands, I guess that's what matters," said Gatomon.

There was still so much more Emily had to elaborate on, but she was going to explain everything to her friends once she would see them at school tomorrow.
