Chapter 1: The Will

Nessie

Though it was already 8 o clock in the morning I'd been up for hours already. I hadn't gotten much sleep at all in the last two weeks since my parents died in a tragic car accident. My entire life had been completely flipped upside down. I've just been going through the motions. I felt like I was on autopilot half of the time. The first week had been filled with all of the funeral arrangements.

Today would be the reading of my parents last will. My parents had an estate worth billions of dollars. My parents had both been scientists. My mother was Isabella. Though she preferred to be called Bella. She'd always been a brilliant scientist. Her love of Biology stemming all the way back to her early school years. My father's name was Henry Davidson. Though he wasn't my biological father.

I never knew my biological father. All I knew about him was that his name was Edward Cullen and that he had hurt my mother very deeply. My mother has told me the story over a million times. On the night before her eighteenth birthday they had sex for the first and last time. But a few days later he left her in the woods after telling her that he and his family never really loved her.

Mom said that she was devastated. It wasn't until she found out that she was pregnant with me that she began to heal. She devoted much of her time to loving me and making sure that my every need was met. She decided to go to college to better herself. She ended getting a PhD in Biology. It was there in that PhD program that she met her husband whom she fell in love with. They got married and he loved me as if I was his biological daughter. He couldn't have any children of his own but that was okay. We were a happy family.

It was during their research together that they discovered the cure for cancer. My parents became billionaires over night. I was about nine years old at the time.

To say that life had changed drastically overnight would have been a massive understatement. Though I was thankful that my parents had chosen to keep their names anonymous from the media so we could live in peace.

My parents invested their money in other ventures as well. They owned property in every state in the country. They had started their own pharmaceutical company to mass produce the cure. Their goal had been to flood the market with the cure to lower the cost so even the poorest of the poor could have access to it. Their motto was It doesn't matter how much money someone has. No one should have to die of any kind of cancer when there is a cure readily available.

There was also all of the stocks and bonds my parents jointly owned. They had so many different types of investments that I couldn't even begin to name them all.

Perhaps one of the craziest ventures they started was their racehorse breeding operation. It all started simply because I said I love horse racing. So my dad took it upon himself to buy some thoroughbreds to race and eventually breed. Now they owned some of the top racehorses in the world.

None of it mattered now though. The stocks, bonds, properties, the cure, or even the horses. None of it mattered because my parents were gone. If I could I'd trade it all in just to have my parents back.

I dragged myself out of bed when one of my babies started crying. I'd given birth to two babies, a boy and a girl, a little over three weeks ago. Just before my parents died. I was a young mom, only eighteen years old, just like my mom had been. My parents had been disappointed at first when I told them I was pregnant. But over the months they became very supportive. When they saw their granddaughter and grandson for the first time they couldn't be happier.

My daughter, Faith, was wide awake. My son, Hunter, was still fast asleep. For now. I picked Faith up and brought her over to the changing table. I changed her diaper and got her cleaned up and dressed for the day. I sighed and got her dressed in a Louis Vuitton outfit that my father had bought for her. This was just one of her many outrageously expensive outfits. Hunter also had expensive clothing from the likes of Louis Vuitton and Gucci just to name a few. My mom and I had tried to protest against this when we went shopping with my dad. I had insisted that baby clothes from Walmart would suffice. There was no need to spend a fortune on clothes they would outgrow quickly. But my mom and I had been ignored.

Faith was still a bit fussy when I finished dressing her. I helped her latch onto my breast and she began sucking immediately. Neither she nor Hunter liked baby formula. I had tried twice to give them formula and they immediately spat it out. I couldn't say that I blamed them. Formula smelled nasty and made me want to gag. My parents had insisted that it smelled fine but it didn't. I'd always had a much keener sense of smell than a normal person. They'd often compare me to a bloodhound.

My son woke up about fifteen minutes later. So I repeated the cycle of getting him cleaned, dressed, and fed. Being with my babies was the only thing keeping me happy and sane right now. I wished now, more than ever, that Ethan was here. Ethan had been the love of my life. We'd known each other for years before we began to date and have sex. He'd been so happy when I told him he was going to be a father. Then he disappeared three months ago. The police were still trying to find him but not having any luck. It was heartbreaking. I just wanted him to come home. Just like I wanted my parents back.

A knock on my door scared me. "Nessie may I come in?" I recognized the voice of my nanny. Nanny Anna had been with us for many years now. First she'd been my nanny and now she was the nanny of my twins.

"Of course,"

"Nessie I'm here to remind you that the reading of your parents' will is going to be taking place in your father's study in fifteen minutes. Your presence is required,"

I forced a smile. "Thanks. Do you mind watching over Faith and Hunter while I attend?"

"Nessie you don't have to ask. You know that,"

"But I prefer to ask. Mom always said it's better to ask first than assume,"

She smiled back. "I will take care of them,"

I was eager to get this meeting over just so I could get back to my babies. My dad's only remaining living relatives were there. My aunt, whom was my dad's sister, had a smug look on her face. Her husband, and their two teenagers all there also. Before now I had only seen them once and that was at my parents' wedding many years ago. They all treated me and my babies like dirt and I couldn't wait for them to go. It was pretty damn obvious that they only cared about the money.

The lawyer got there a few minutes after I did. He began reading out the will.

"All of our assets, stocks, bonds, property, entire estate, and combined cash in all accounts shall be left to our daughter Renesmee Carlie Cullen and her descendants-"

My head snapped up at that.

"WHAT?!" my aunt, uncle, and cousins all screamed at once. This had been a shock to me as well. I was only eighteen years old. My aunt and uncle were wealthy on their own and I'd thought for sure all of the money would be left to them since they knew how to manage money.

"How can my brother leave everything to her?! She is not even his real daughter!"

That stung but I chose to remain silent.

"That stupid girl is only eighteen! She can't handle such a vast fortune!" my uncle yelled.

"and then what is this nonsense about her descendants as well?!" My aunt roared.

"How do we get that money?!"

"You don't!" The lawyer snapped.

"Everything rightfully belongs to Renesmee and Renesmee only. The only way you would ever get a dime is in the event of Renesmee's death and she has no living descendants to inherit upon her death,"

"But-"

"This will was drafted by Isabella and Henry together with me ten years ago. They were very clear with their intentions. Now we're done here. You all may leave,"

I was still in shock as I left the lawyer. I was walking back to my room when I overheard talking in the kitchen.

"I didn't count on this happening," my aunt said angrily.

"So what now?" My uncle asked.

"We're going to have to stage a little accident for that niece of mine as well as those two little spawns of hers. We need to get all three of them out of the way if we want that fortune,"
