Smells Like Teen Spirit—Nirvana

Come as You Are—Nirvana

The concert is loud and dark, and we're squished close together, but it's every-fucking-thing. Kurt rocks out on stage, his raspy voice yelling the chorus to the grunge anthem while we jump in our spots, hands in the air.

As much as I was looking forward to attending this show, it doesn't much matter anymore. All I can focus on or care about is the body lined so close to mine that it sets off a buzz along my skin. Everything about tonight is electric: me, him, the arena, and our plans for after.

It's all I can think about.

All I want.

To be with him.

Without guilt.

Or remorse.

The band takes a bow and dips off stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy of chants. "Nir-va-na. Nir-va-na. Nir-va-na."

I'm yelling with them at the top of my lungs, but when Edward slinks in close and wraps his left arm around my waist, his lips at my ear, my entire being tunes them out.

He owns my mind, body, and soul.

All I can hear is him.

"Do we really want to drag this out any longer?" His voice is low and scratchy, and it does bad, bad things to my panties.

I turn in his arms and shake my head like a good little girl, looking up at him beneath my lashes. "I'm ready when you are."

Alice yells so loudly beside us that I have to cover my ears as I turn around to see the band back on stage. I look over my shoulder at my guy, and he shrugs.

They only play two more songs, closing out the concert with Come as You Are, which gives me the opportunity to rock out a little longer. When all is said and done, we've spent two magnificent hours with a whole hell of a lot of other people kicking it with Nirvana.

Once outside the venue, the four of us take off walking. Our hotel is only a couple blocks west, and the night air helps to clear our heads and allow our hearing to slowly come back.

"That was fucking rad," Alice says as she skips ahead of us. Her excitement is bubbling over. Nirvana is one of her favorite bands, obviously. "We should make this a tradition." She flicks her gaze between the three of us as she walks backward. "I mean, we're couples for life right here, so why not make a pact to come back here for Nirvana for however long they hold court in Seattle."

No one denies the simple fact of her declaration. We all firmly agree with her assessment. Whether life will cooperate is something else entirely. We're still so young in the grand scheme, but I'm all in, and I'm pretty sure my guy agrees judging by the way he tucks me closely into his side and slips his fingers into my jean short pocket.

"We're in," Edward says, shrugging. "I'll have to get a pass if med school interferes, but we'll do our best."

"You know I'm down if you are, Ali-cat," Jasper says.

"Really?" I wrinkle my nose. "Nirvana is what's going to hold us together?"

"Like fucking glue, B," Alice says, poking out her tongue. "It's our friendship that's going to hold us together, but Nirvana is going to make us get together when we might not have otherwise."

"What if they break up?" I ask, having no clue what the future holds for them.

"Shut yo mouth." She's offended now, like a million bands haven't broken up already. "Nirvana forever!"

Someone in the distance yells, "Fuck yeah."

And we dissolve into a fit of giggles.

By the time we're done laughing, the hotel looms large, and my stomach does a somersault. It's been a long time since I've been able to savor Edward in the most intimate way, and I intend to spend a long night making up for everything we missed because of me.

I look up at him, and I don't need to say it, but I do anyway. "I love you."

He pulls me into his chest, my head fitting perfectly beneath his chin. "I'm never going to tire of hearing that."

I pull back and lift on my tiptoes, mouth at ear. "Let me show you."

I drag him inside behind me.

Only stopping to snag the key card.
