The ride to the airport was tense to say the least.
Billy and Steve ended up having to drive separate cars because of Max's unexpected guests.
Billy got Max, Jane, Dustin, and Lucas while Steve got Mike, Will, and Erica.
Max wanted to sit in back with Jane but the look Billy flashed as he pointed to the seat next to him told her not to argue.
Dustin and Lucas tried hard not to laugh as they quietly slipped their hands together under the seatbelts.
"Since you decided to invite all your friends without asking and we had to switch flights to accommodate more asses you will be spending the first few days in your hotel room and yes I will be giving up my first few days to make sure your ass stays in there.
You're all very lucky because I got an executive suite so you will each be getting your own room and yes we will be vigilant in making sure you're not having sex because we don't want to deal with pissed-off parents" Billy said and quietly waited for any argument but the little shits knew better.
What Billy didn't say was that he actually bought a beautiful mansion on the California coast that has its own private beach. He knew he couldn't keep spending like that but everyone deserved something nice and quiet they could retreat to if needed.
The layout was perfect, it had a half-circular layout with nine rooms surrounding the common area on the second floor. The bottom floor held a huge gathering area, kitchen, and dining hall.
When they got to the airport Steve had already gotten his surprise together. He had chartered a private plane for them to fly there and back in. He had also somehow gotten a full refund on the already-booked flight.
Once they got all the kids seated Billy and Steve went and grabbed two seats near the back so they could watch everyone so Nancy and Robin could enjoy their trip.
Billy leaned over, placed his hand on Steve's face, turned him towards him, and gave him a deep but loving kiss.
Steve leaned in and neither of them even noticed the plane taking off.
They only knew they were in the air when they heard seven voices going off at once about how amazing it was being up this high.
"Billy everything is so small," Max said excitedly looking out her window.
Reluctantly the two pulled apart and Billy went over and ruffled Max's hair and said "I'm glad you're having fun kiddo".
The rest of the flight was as exciting as the beginning. For most of them that was their first flight and to see their excited faces made both Steve and Billy happy.
Then came the fasten seatbelts sign and interrupted that fun but the intrigue of the next part of the adventure kept the excitement going.
When the plane had landed and they got their stuff from baggage claim they went to find a place to rent three cars for the duration of their stay.
It was like the guy at the rental agency could smell that they had money because he kept offering them the most expensive and luxurious cars.
In the end, though, they were offered a small bus-like vehicle that had room for eleven for free from a friend of Joyce Byers at the shop next door.
They left the airport and the sales guy who looked like his whole world just crashed around him behind.
Steve was in the passenger seat while Billy drove because he knew exactly where he was headed.
As they passed by the tall trees and ocean there were a lot of oohs and ahhs from the back.
It didn't measure the silence that befell the others as they pulled up to the mansion-sized home in a quiet area. They could even see the stairs down to the private beach.
Steve looked at Billy as they came to a stop, his eyes wide with wonder and his jaw looking as though it was about to hit the ground.
"This doesn't look like a hotel" Steve said when he could finally talk.
Billy flashed one of his trademark smiles and said "A hotel wasn't good enough for my soulmate so I bought a mansion with a private beach".
The gagging noises from the back made Billy and Steve laugh especially when they heard Robin ask Nancy what she was going to buy her to top this.
Leaving their luggage in the van they headed inside and the gasps were even louder inside the house.
"Alright, the first rule of the house is you clean up whatever mess you make. Second rule of the house is that you listen when an adult tells you to do something.
Now I know what you are thinking, how did you do all this from Hawkins? Well, my buddy Argyle took a tour of the house and then called me and gave it his blessing, so I called and made an offer the owner couldn't refuse.
Because Argyle is such a great friend he spent the last two days furnishing the whole place.
He will be joining us later for dinner but for now let me take you all upstairs to see how the sleeping arrangements will work.
As you can see there is a common area surrounded by the rooms. Each kid has their own room and no kid will enter another room without one of us present.
If you are found in another kid's room well that will be addressed at the time just know it won't be as nice as the grounding Max is facing right now" Billy said and seemed proud of making the kids look terrified.
Steve, Nancy, and Robin fought back laughter as Billy showed each kid their room and then brought them back to the common area.
Letting Nancy and Robin pick their room Steve and Billy checked out their room which was amazing. It had an ensuite and a lot of space.
Robin and Nancy had the only other room with an en-suite but there was a full bathroom every two rooms so the kids shouldn't have a fight over the bathroom.
The next part of the tour was the full kitchen and the beautiful dining room.
The living room had comfortable couches and chairs and a fireplace they could use at night if they wanted.
"Wow, do we even have to go back?" Steve said, wrapping his arms around Billy's neck.
"Ya we need to get these other knuckleheads back to their respective parents plus they do have to go to school but it's always here when we want it baby," Billy said as he kissed Steve on the forehead.
As soon as the tour ended everyone went out and helped bring in the luggage.
When they got everything inside Billy realized they didn't have any food and it became a chance for them to get out and see the surrounding location and the first place Max decided they had to go was Surfer Boys Pizza to see Argyle.
Once everyone was back in the van and Billy had double-checked the locks for the hundredth time they headed out to shop and grab some dinner.
When they got to Suffer Boys pizza Max almost didn't didn't wait to jump out of the van until it stopped but thankfully Robin had a hand on her the minute the van stopped though she was up and out the door and into the awaiting Argyles arms.
"I missed you too sparky," Argyle said, holding her close.
"Missed you too," Max said as he put her down.
Billy had walked up behind Max but stood back as she reacquainted with Argyle. Steve watched as Billy went up to the man and broke down crying as he wrapped his arms around him.
The lightning flashed in Steve's normally calm eyes as his fists clenched in jealous rage.
"You should be happy he has a friend like that like you have me" Robin said softly as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
Placing his hand on hers he said "You're right Rob. I've never been so jealous of him around another man or woman".
"That's because you've never had so much to lose until now Stevie. Trust me I've had this chat with Nancy and you two should talk as well. Find out more about his relationship with Argyle" Robin said and patted his shoulder and went back to ushering the kids inside.
As soon as Billy and Argyle detached from one another Billy ran over and grabbed Steves arm like a young kid and dragged him over.
"Argyle, this is Steve and he is my soulmate. I hope the two of you can get along" Billy said excitedly.
"Any soulmate of Billys is a bro to me bring it in" Argyle said and pulled Steve in for a huge hug.
Once Argyle let go they followed everyone in and Argyle showed them to a set of tables pushed together with about six different pizzas on them.
"I didn't know what you all would like so I made one of each we sell so dig in my brochocos and broettes" Argyle said and he didn't have to say anything else before they all started eating.
It didn't take long for them to devour the pizzas and after they made plans with Argyle to meet up at the beach on his day off they did a fast run to the store for some basic things for breakfast and lunch and headed home.
Once they got all the kids in bed and said goodnight to Robin and Nancy, Steve and Billy sat down on the couch in the common area of the second floor and snuggled.
"This will be a great getaway" Steve said, burying his face in Billys chest.
"Yes it will be" Billy said as he kissed Steve's forehead.
They stayed like that all night.
