A Surprising Twist
The following day at school, while everyone was having lunch, Yugi and Emily told their friends what happened between them yesterday, regarding Yugi's misunderstanding about the blonde making a wedding cake.
"A wedding cake," Tristan asked. "Who's getting married?"
"No one," said Yugi. He chuckled nervously and added, "Although I had the same impression at first. I literately thought that Emily had accepted Rafael's proposal and–,"
"What?" Joey asked in disbelief. "Emily would never do that!" He looked at her and asked, "Would you, Em?"
"Of course not," she snapped. She looked away and said, "However, it's not just the wedding cake I need to provide, but also the wedding dress."
All of her friends looked at her with wide eyes. "Are you sure you're not getting married?" Tristan asked suspiciously.
"I'm not getting married!" the blonde girl snapped. "Stop asking me that!"
"Okay, okay," the brunette replied. "So if you're not getting married – if no one is getting married, then why do you need a wedding cake and a wedding dress?"
Emily inhaled sharply. She was going to regret this. "It's for Rafael." This time, all of her friends dropped their eating utensils and their mouths were gaping open. Before any of them can say anything, she tells them once again, "I'm not marrying him." She stands up and holds out her hands. "Look, do any of you guys see an engagement ring?"
They all looked and saw that she didn't have a ring on any of her fingers. Then Yugi remembered. "Wait, yesterday you mentioned that this was a birthday request. Does this mean–?"
Joey was wondering the same thing. "Is Rafael's birthday coming up?"
Téa laughed, feeling embarrassed. "Is that what this whole thing is about? Why didn't you say that in the first place?"
Emily laughed too. "That's the point of it being a surprise." She told them she received a phone call from Valon and Alister and they told her Rafael wanted a wedding cake for his birthday and he also wanted to see Emily wearing a wedding dress.
"I wasn't comfortable about the idea," Emily admitted, "but I agreed to do it." She looked at her friends. "Raf may be too much for me, but he's still my friend and I care about him. Besides, I'd do the same for any of you."
They knew she was being honest about all of this. This was one of the many things everyone in the group admired about Emily. She would always put herself out for her friends and family because she cared. And much like Emily, Yugi, Joey, Tristan, and Tea considered Rafael their friend too. So they all agreed to help out. It would have to wait, though. The lunch period was over and students had to get back to their classes. But Yugi and the others promised to help Emily.
