Neon Genesis Evangelion

Joy and Thunder, Passion and Rage

A/N: The will to act is what makes a difference between living and existence.

Gendo could only ignore the phone calls from people from the PR sector for so long before the complaints and harassment built up to break the camel's back. To be the subject of these accusations that stemmed from his son leaving a second time with an alien that took him away after he left him alone almost eleven years ago was taking a toll on his position as the leader of NERV.

And to think that this all went south…because of some pint-sized, pinkish freak show that that brat left with, he thought as he sat in his office, unable to ponder what the strategy will be if NERV couldn't demonstrate the power and reliability of the Evangelions against an Angel if this Kirby were to show up the next time and deal with the threat.

The UN had reviewed the footage of Kirby defeating the two Angels and had to conclude in their own way that this alien, despite it taking the so-called Third Child that was selected by NERV a second time, didn't have much of an agenda for when it came to facing a threat that meant to eliminate the human race, and more than likely knew what it was doing more than NERV did. In the end, NERV was in a bind of its own undoing if they couldn't prove their Evas were worth the years spent investing in their research and development; something that wouldn't see the light of day or be able to prove it was worth the time and resources put into it wouldn't be worth anything if what it was intended to do never came to pass. And if this became solidified in current history, this meant Gendo would face the consequences for his own involvement with the paramilitary agency.

"Ikari, at this point, the repercussions of this venture are beyond severe if progress does not advance forward," he was told by the Committee in their most recent meeting. "NERV or no NERV, Kirby or no Kirby, if these Angels aren't dealt with by an Evangelion or you fail to produce results that the Evas are worth the time and money we have invested in them, then this venture will be for naught."

He was in a bind now because of his son and the pink alien. All of NERV was in jeopardy if they couldn't prove the Evas were effective against the Angels. He would lose everything, not just what he aimed to get from all of this. And he would be on the receiving end of some very displeased people that would demand his head, heart and soul as compensation.

Ring-ring! His desk phone rang, and he answered.

"What is it?" He asks.

People were told to evacuate within five miles of the city as the Fifth Angel appeared to be heading to Tokyo-3, ignoring everything else. The creature resembled a large, blue octahedron glistening in the sunlight. Each time it made a sound, it sounded like a chorus singing. Whether it was a type of levitating fortress or an actual creature, nobody in the public really knew, but it was fearsome enough to invoke dread as it forced them to run for their lives.

"Any signs of the alien?" Misato asks the Bridge Bunnies as they were preparing for combat.

"Nothing yet," Hyuga reveals.

"Get ready, Asuka," Misato informs the Second Child as Unit-02 was being prepped to launch to the surface.

"No, wait!" Shigeru gasps. "High-density readings from the target…and something entering the planet's atmosphere!"

On the screens, they could see the Fifth Angel preparing to do something…and watched as it unleashed a beam from its body into the air.

Glad we didn't send Asuka out in front of that, Misato thinks as something enters the fray. Is that Kirby flying through the beam?

Something small was flying towards the Angel, seemingly unaffected by by its energy beam, and caused a minor impact strong enough to force the Angel to shift its levitational sense of gravity. It slowly turned one-hundred-thirty degrees to the right, displaying what looked like an indentation from something that struck it.

Ramiel didn't expect this small creature to be capable of harming it. Worse, it felt like this creature still retained some of the previous Angels' power; that was the only way it could've gotten through its beam attack.

On the side of the Angel, Kirby, in his Shamshel Mode, used his left energy whip to slash at the Angel's hide, chipping off a piece of it, which he then ate right in front of it.

"Poyo," he went, feeling the new energy of this Angel surge through him as his body shifted from red to blue, having a crystalline texture to it. "Ha! Star Warrior Kirby: Ramiel Mode!"

With this new power, he had the abilities of the Angel of Thunder and knew where its weak point was in order to defeat it.

"Send out Unit-02," Gendo ordered.

"Uh, sir," went Maya to him, "the alien is already engaging the Angel."

Before Gendo could order Unit-02 be sent out again, on the screens, the Fifth Angel was sent levitating away from the outer city limits by Kirby, who then unleashed his own beam attack on it. He couldn't believe how this extraterrestrial made facing these Angels seem so easy, and all it did was break off a piece of each one it faced and then made itself look like demoralized version of them that was more for its benefit. The beam didn't even seem impeded by the Angel's AT-Field, which should've been active, as the Angel's exterior was showing signs of heat warp, becoming bubbly and melting away.

"No way," said someone on the bridge.

"Way," added another person.

-x-

Ramiel didn't like this! It was like battling something that was itself, only smaller, but just as dangerous because they were so nimble. Except it wasn't just battling itself right now; it felt like this creature was it and the two previous Angels, like their essences were gathered together within this tiny body.

Kirby, still retaining the power of the other two Angels, now empowered with this new one, unleashed the full force of this beam from his arms against its exterior.

"Rrrraaurgh!" He yelled, making the Angel know his might without any mercy.

Ramiel was wiped away in a flash of blinding light, leaving only its core, which fell to the ground like a discarded object. It was about the size of a small house and resembled a big, red ball made of crystal.

Returning to his true self, Kirby inhaled a big breath of air in front of the core…and then spat out a swarm of star-shaped bodies of light at the core, fracturing and shattering it to pieces no larger than a small child.

"Poyo," he expressed; this Angel was not going to come back from this defeat.

With his task completed for the time being, he sucked in a little of the shattered core, then floated up into the air and returned to space.

Incompetence. That was what Gendo was feeling towards the personnel of NERV. And spite was what he felt towards Kirby for his intervention again. This was going to come back to bite the agency right in the base of their operation. The Angel had arrived in less than half an hour…and the pink alien had defeated it in less than ten minutes.

Although NERV had collected what little of the remains of the Angel's core they could gather, but they were all next to useless due to being in so many pieces that it was impossible to piece back together for study. But some of the personnel had been praising the pink alien for actually taking care of the Angels it faced.

"Would it be a stretch if the reason this alien is doing this because the commander's son asked it to?" One of the men suggested, which Gendo happened to hear and was upset with.

If the Third Child did ask this alien to face the Angels, he thought bitterly, it was the worst choice he made. He was supposed to pilot the Eva and face the Angels. Instead, he abandons us to live on another world we can't even get to. And he asks this creature to fight in place of himself? Only a coward would make such a choice when they know they need to fight.

"You shall not hurt your son, ever again," he recalls Kirby telling him after Shinji declared that he wanted to leave.

That's not a hero. That's a pest.

Sleep in Dream Land was the greatest. Shinji, and others from Earth that decided to stay on Popstar, felt like when they went to sleep, they could dream thousands of dreams and wake up feeling refreshed to face the new day. And in their dreams, their greatest fantasies felt like an adventure they longed for their whole lives. Within his current dream, Shinji was flying atop a large ferret with pink and purple fur coloring.

"Ha-ha-ha!" He laughed as he looked down below, seeing Kirby, who looked a little larger, about the size of his dome home, floating up towards him.

"Poyo," he greeted Shinji, who smiled back.

Behind him, he could see Tiff and Tuff on the back of a large dream whale that was flying in the air with them.

"Dream Land is the best!" The siblings yelled.

"Dream Land is the best!" Shinji agreed with them.

"Poyo!" Kirby went.

-x-

"That pink puffball!" Asuka yelled as she walked down the hallway of NERV HQ. "That makes three Angels now! At this rate, we'll be out of a job!"

She was just upset that she never got to face the Angel, but Misato, who was with her, told her, "If we had sent you out there, and that Angel attacked the second you rose up from the streets, you would've had a hole in your chest. While I'm not happy about this turn of events, Kirby showing up and facing the Angel is slightly better than what could've happened."

"And if it shows up again and we're just watching it defeat another Angel?"

Misato couldn't deny that NERV could be disbanded if Kirby showed up and defeated another Angel instead of them doing so with their Evas. But even so, the Fifth Angel had taken them by surprise because it seemed able to attack instantaneously, before anyone had a chance to strike. It was almost a blessing that Kirby showed up and fought in their place. She couldn't even picture the commander's son piloting the Eva against any of these Angels, whether he was a small child or subjected to accelerated growth hormones. There also seemed to be very little chance that the boy, even if the pink alien hadn't come back for him, would cooperate with them after the way his father treated him.

"Yeah, there's a good chance that we'll be disbanded," she told Asuka, just stating the possibility.

"Aaaurgh!" Asuka yelled in fury, upset over the possibility.

"The Fifth Angel was dispatched by this pink alien," went SEELE 05 in the meeting with the council. "NERV never got the chance to deal with it themselves."

"It assimilated part of the Angel and used its power to defeat it," SEELE 07 added. "It's just like with the Third and Fourth Angels; it takes a piece of them, consumes it, and then it transforms into demented version of themselves like someone dressing up for Halloween."

"Where was NERV when this happened?" SEELE 01 questions.

"They were preparing to launch Unit-02," reveals SEELE 12, "but the alien interfered. From what my sources within NERV revealed, the Fifth Angel was anticipating an attack and was prepared for it."

"So, even if an Eva was sent out to attack it, the Angel would've been ready to face it," said SEELE 07. "This implies that the Angels are getting smarter with each defeat, learning from their mistakes."

"Perhaps we should alter our tactics," went SEELE 02. "Instead of focusing primarily on the Angels, NERV should attempt to capture the alien."

"Prior to the Third Child's escape, NERV made a small attempt to impede the alien, only to be defeated by it like it was child's play," SEELE 10 tells them. "What's more, this alien never seems to demonstrate any other abilities besides its ability to suck things in and slap people around. We don't know what this creature is capable is capable of."

"Nobody except the Third Child, that is, and he's no longer on the planet," SEELE 06 reminded them. "However, he did inform Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki. Perhaps his suggestion should be taken to heart…and we exploit the alien's aid for our own purposes."

The council was quiet for a minute, contemplating their next move. The very notion of accepting help from an alien that was seen by people from another world as a hero was not only ludicrous, but left them vulnerable to potential setbacks if the alien was smarter than they could've anticipated it to be. However, based on what they learned from Fuyutsuki, who only found out because Ikari's son told him, this alien was intelligent, capable of speech and self-defense. It would seem that the idea would aid in helping them achieve their goal…if everything was done carefully and their agenda was kept hidden.

"Contact Fuyutsuki again," SEELE 01 declared. "We need to know absolutely everything he knows about this alien."

Because of the decrease in activity involving the Angels due to the intervention of Kirby, this left Ryoji Kaji with limited time to investigate NERV for his own reasons. Sooner or later, he was going to be found out, so he had to be quick with his investigation into what NERV was really up to with the Evangelions and why.

If the Third Child had stayed, he really would've been subjected to accelerated growth hormones to make him physically old enough to pilot the Eva, he thought as he scrolled through the data within the MAGI. If they had him around, he would've been stripped of al his dignity. I guess it's a good thing he chose to leave. And what's this here?

He discovered that there was an investigation into the disappearance of the Third Child nearly three days after he was reported missing, but the investigation barely went on for about a month before being called off due to a lack of evidence, information and witnesses. Of course, nobody expected for there to be any sort of alien abduction that was more like a rescue attempt to save someone from a miserable life, which got Kaji thinking of something else that might've been not too far from what happened with the boy. It was only a possibility, nothing more than a suspicion, but he wondered if Shinji wasn't the only person that went missing as a child a few years ago. If this was so, then it was likely that this pink alien, maybe even others like it, had visited the planet more than once over the years, picking up people across different countries, not just Japan.

Surely, he wasn't a unique case of children going missing, he thought as he searched for any similar disappearances. Did Kirby take any other children away that were reported missing?

Of course, "take" was a strong word to use against an alien that looked like a friendly humanoid, but that was because none of them knew enough about the creature to assume that it was not hiding an agenda against the human race. Nobody knew anything about it. Nobody except the Third Child…and the sub-commander.

"What's this here?" He wondered as he found a link. "This was reported three days before the boy was reported missing. A little girl disappeared from her home after suspicions and allegations of child abuse. The parents denied any involvement in their daughter's disappearance, vouched for by their ten-year-old son, who claimed his sister ran into the woods the night he saw her last. All that was recovered were her shoes. Unfortunately, this investigation wasn't as much of a priority as the Ikari boy's disappearance, so it wasn't worked on as much. Could there be a connection between the two?"

If he was right, then it meant that it was likely that Kirby had taken the girl before he took Shinji, likely to the same world, away from the people that hurt them so that they wouldn't hurt them. While this would've made the alien a hero in some sense, it would've reduced it to being a kidnapper and confirming that alien abductions were quite real, but the reasons for why being different depending upon the circumstances and the alien or aliens in question.

But does this alien have an agenda? Kaji wonders as he closes his terminal and decides to wait a few days before gathering more information on NERV and trying to find more cases of disappearances that could be connected to the pink alien.

To be continued…

A/N: I just wanted to put in the likelihood that this story could become more comparable to my other works because I try to give Shinji relationships that don't relate to NERV, his parents or the Evangelions and Angels. That means some relationships can relate to the Different from You stories where he has relationships that are genuinely his and don't connect to these undesirable aspects of his past. Also, this would imply that Kirby has visited Earth multiple times, relocating people to Popstar so that they may live happily, but be seen as an abductor by people that wonder what his motives are and why he does this. Any guess on who was being referred to?
