"Well Doctor, what can you tell us about Private Harris?" General Hammond asked.

"That Sam is right again. He does have more rods and cones in his eyes, as well as a larger perception area of his brain. Also, the rods and cones are oddly shaped. An adaptation perhaps that allows him to see things that would normally be outside the normal human perception range."

"What could cause an adaptation like that?"

"People adapt to their environment, sir. Something in his home reality made it both necessary and possible for him to adapt."

"It's more then that." Dr. Mackenzie, base psychologist said. "He's highly observant. To a nearly instinctive degree. He reads facial and body language as easily as Dr. Jackson reads Egyptian. He also reads people's moods. He's well aware of what people around him are thinking and feeling. I have no doubt, he's very good at encouraging people. He probably notices before they do, how they're reacting."

"Do either of you object to him being apart of the negotiations?"

"No, but I do have a concern. He's bluntly truthful, General." Dr. Meckanzie said. "While the Salish and their guardians may appreciate it, I'm not so sure Earth's Ambassador will."

"I'll let the President know that. I see even more resemblance to you Colonel O'Neill. Aside from the Goa'uld, most of our allies approve of your straightforward manner. And I would say, you are also highly observant."

"Thank you, sir. I appreciate that."

"Dismissed."

The negotiations were allowed to go forward and Alexander got to experience the Stargate for the first time.

"I knew that was going to be cool! Hi, I'm Private Alexander Harris, nice to meet you."

"I am Tonani, welcome to our world."

"Your world is beautiful. I come from a place where the desert meets the ocean. It's got its own kind of beauty."

The negotiations were going well, until Alexander pulled the Ambassador aside.

"Ambassador, we're supposed to be truthful with them."

The Ambassador frowned at him. "I am being truthful with them, young man."

"Didn't they tell you? I can tell. You just lied. You intend to mine more then you just said. You do know, that if they think you doing something wrong, they can just block their Stargate, right? The only chance we have is to be honest with them. We mine no more then what is agreed to. You're risking Earth's future by lying."

The Ambassador glared at him and then agreed. The negotiations were completed with both sides getting what they wanted. The trinium would be mined in an environmentally sound way and Earth would get the trinium. When they returned, both the Ambassador and Alexander had something to say.

"You cost us alot of trinium, Mr. Harris."

"It's Private Harris and I saved us alot of goodwill. I was told to be honest, and alert when someone wasn't being honest. You weren't being honest. If we'd done it your way, we wouldn't have gotten anything."

"Earth needs as much of that trinium as we can get."

"I agree. I don't agree with lying to get it or stealing to get it. Be happy with what we got. If we stick to the agreement, we may be able to negotiate for more in the future."

"He's right, Mr. Ambassador and you were told by the President to be honest. We don't need to go behind their backs to get what we need. Good work, Private."

"Thank you, sir."

"Hard to believe you've been here less then a week and you've managed to piss off a politician. Took me months." Colonel O'Neill complained.

"Isn't there something about kids surpassing their parents being a goal parents are supposed to have?" Alexander asked, innocently.

A/N I got another one of those anonymous messages. This one saying it's telling how much I rewrite canon to make Xander appear competent or Cordelia sympathetic. Xander was competent, he just didn't get any encouragement. Did you notice how fast he rose in the construction company when his boss encouraged him? And being honest and tactless on purpose, doesn't mean Cordelia was less sympathetic. Mostly, what I write is commentary on the episodes. Buffy was the hypocritic, not Xander. More people died because of her and her choices then anyone else's on the show and she simply didn't care, unless she thought she was going to get in trouble. And Giles needed to pull off the rose colored glasses he wore around her. If you've got a problem with my stories, why do you read them? Read someone who agrees with your point of view. To all those who are simply reading for enjoyment or do appreciate my point of view, thank you. If you wish to comment openly, I will gladly respond directly to you. Anonymous is hiding.
