Chapter 5
Time passed by really fast when all you're doing is learning magic. Before long it was October and the weather was starting to get colder. Of course that didn't affect Alice just like it didn't affect her mother. In a few weeks it would be Halloween and, just like with her father, she had been born on Halloween. On the strange note, she got a letter from her father the third week of October.
Your mother is coming for Halloween
God! She hoped that Dumbledore knew.
During her short time at the school she had come to understand something odd about the whole place. Everyone was obsessed with blood status. Either getting mad when their friends were considered below the likes of Malfoy, or believing themselves to be better the others. When Alice mentioned that her mother had been, at one time, a muggle no one seemed to get what she meant by the words, 'at one time.' Her father was a wizard, from a long line of wizards, so that made her, at least, a half-blood. Alice had given up on explaining that her grandmother had been a wizard herself.
It's clear that culture clash is a real thing.
One of the things that one must know about the Winter Court is that you have no idea how they are going to appear. Alice's mother was no different. She was seven levels of regal, seven levels of terrifying, and seven levels of power and authority. You didn't comment about her former mortal status, you didn't insult her, and you didn't put her daughter down. Malfoy, it seemed, was still mad about the Knockout potion that he had been force to drink. Or mad at Snape for making him take it.
Alice really didn't know which was which anymore.
"So are you part of the 'Malfoy's most hated people' club?" Alice asked Snape.
"Yep," he answered. "He's a spoiled, rotten, brat that reminds me too much of Potter's father. But, at least, Potter actually answers the questions like a normal human and has some of his mum's talent in Potion making. Malfoy glares and tries to ruin anyone's work."
"You knew Harry's mum."
"Yeah, she was a talent, brilliant witch," he said. "She was a good friend that I didn't appreciate when I had been alive."
"What caused you to decide to become red court?" Alice asked him.
"The Dark Lord was trying to ally himself with the Red Court," he said. "He offered me to Bianca. She accepted me, but almost killed him. Wish she had killed him. Then Lily wouldn't have been dead."
Let's add the husband to the 'still living' list. However, Alice had a feeling that his dislike for Harry's father wasn't going to let that be a thing. She decided to leave Snape to his thoughts, and his memories.

"So I heard that Halloween is your birthday," Harry said to Alice. "Must be wicked to have a Halloween birthday."
"My father has the same birthday that I do," Alice said. "My Uncle, Thomas, was born on Valentine's day."
"My parents died on Halloween," Harry told her.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Alice said. "I don't know what I would do if my parents died."
"Thanks," he said and Alice knew that he was glad for what she had said. "So, what are you going to do for Halloween?"
"Try and have fun," he said. "Though I doubt anyone cares that my parents are dead. As long as they get their little savior to be with them."
Alice put a hand on his shoulder and said, "Listen, Harry, what happened to your parents shouldn't be forgotten. If you don't want to go, then that's fine. I'll bring you up some dinner."
"Thanks," he said. "I don't really feel like having any fun."
"And I don't blame you."
Of course, Alice couldn't get out of going, as her mother was coming for a visit.

"The Winter Queen is coming to visit with her Winter Knight," Dumbledore told the staff. "I can't make it even more clear that nothing can go wrong with her visit."
He was telling his staff, because he wanted to see what would happen. Halloween was the perfect chance for Voldemort, and he suspected the man was in the room right now, with them, to try and take the stone.
"Don't worry, we'll make sure that the visit is perfect," Professor Sprout said.
"Good," he told her. "Because I'm not about to have a mad Queen, or Knight, on my hands."
"Why are they even coming?" Filch asked him. "Sounds more trouble than their worth."
"Because their daughter goes here," McGonagall snapped. "And this will be a good chance for them to actually see the school."
"Great, more work."
Dumbledore ignored Filch's grumblings. He just hoped the Winter Queen could.

A/N: This, hopefully, will be the shortest chapter in the whole story.
