Chapter 1/3!

ENJOY!

Wednesday, October 15, 1998

The day had started like any normal day. Hermione was hovering over her pre-Hogwarts potions students, as they worked on learning proper knife skills. She was gently correcting one of the boys when an alarm blared.

Thankfully they'd trained for this, all off the students rushed to follow Hermione out into the Main Hall in an orderly line. Remus was standing, Teddy strapped to his chest, at the front of the room.

"Thank you for coming quickly and quietly, there has been an attack. Those of age, have been requested, Hettie, Joao, and Nora (Narcissa) are to stay with those underage."

Hermione tested her hands on her rapidly growing stomach and nodded. She opened the bond briefly to Draco.

"They're being called to an attack, do you know what's happened?" she asked.

Draco, who was teaching his own lesson, paused to quickly let them know that he didn't have a clue.

In a matter of seconds, all those of age grasped their portkey and were brought to their safe houses. Harry, Neville, and Remus looked around at the remaining students. Remus rushed over to Narcissa and handed Teddy off, kissing his son on the head. He, Harry, and Neville nodded and then apparated out.

Hermione directed all the students to the many tables. Fortunately it was close to lunch, so the elves were able to get food out within 15 minutes. Theo, Hermione, and Narcissa wandered through the assembled students, calming those who were feeling anxious.

That didn't diminish her own nerves though. Keeping a calm facade was getting to her more and more. Finally lunch ended and Narcissa sent Theo and Hermione to take a break while she and the elves hosted an impromptu performance of Babbity Rabbity.

"Shhh, shhhh," Theo soothed her, pulling her in for a hug when they entered his classroom. "It's alright, we haven't been looped in because of the baby, nothing else."

"Wh-what if something terrible has happened?" she whispered into his chest.

"We'll know soon enough," he said, not letting her go.

Finally, Andromeda made her appearance. "We're to have an impromptu overnight!" she said, clapping her hands, even Hermione could see the tightness around her eyes.

"I'll of course stay," Narcissa said kindly, not even batting an eye.

"Hettie, Joao," Andromeda said, pulling them aside, "would you mind taking Myrna back to Headquarters? Her parents passed in the midst of the attack. Her elder brother wants to see her."

Hermione looked at Theo with pained eyes. "What happened?" he asked.

"The short version is that there was an attack on one of the safehouses that hosted a few families. The Order is mostly alright, a few scrapes and bruises, Remus and Kingsley agreed that the children would stay here overnight, their parents will be sent over shortly."

Hermione closed her eyes and let out a deep breath, that was better than she'd guessed.

"Thank you for coming to let us know," Theo said, a sense of relief washing over him as well.

"After you check in, you two are to go home," Andromeda said, firmly. "Too much stress isn't good for the baby and Salazar knows we have enough of it. Remind Remus that I'll mind Teddy while he's away and to take his time."

Hermione grasped Myrna's small hand and grasped the Portkey. Momentarily, she found herself in Headquarters, the young girl looked around curiously. From seemingly nowhere another person came and lifted Myrna up, holding them close to their face. Hermione took a small step back, giving the siblings space.

After a few moments, the brother looked at Hermione and Theo who were standing off to the side. "Thank you for watching over my sister. She's-" he cut out, "we're all each other has left."

"It was our delight," Theo said quietly. "Myrna is a natural at Charms. She's one of my favourite students."

"My name's David, by the way," the young man said, smiling down at his sister. "Mimi and I are just going to have to sort out what's next."

"I think I can help with that," Remus said, coming from behind them. "Kingsley and I have already assigned the Elves to build a makeshift shelter for the evening, but we're hoping to have a full apartment set up created for all the families by Friday. Maybe the two of you can help?"

David smiled softly, continuing to hold Myrna, who truly was too big to be held. "I've just finished my certification in Architecture…"

"So I've heard," Remus said, pulling the pair towards the office.

Harry came up, looking utterly shattered. "I wish this was over," he said, collapsing on the couch. "Tell me that you have a plan to end this, Hermione?"

"I have a few thoughts," she said mysteriously. "I suppose our typical meeting will be rescheduled?"

"Yeah," Harry yawned. "Kings said we'd meet on Saturday. Apparently with the move for all the Muggleborn families, there are too many logistics to think about staging a response."

"We'll talk with Draco and Regulus and see if they've heard anything on their end," Theo said. "But now, I must get my dear, pregnant wife home. It's been a longer day than we anticipated."
