The legalities: I do not own any of the Expendables franchise (characters, places, and objects especially) and this is mostly au.Rated M just to be on the safe side.
Hope you enjoy!
Prompt: "Which way did they go?"
"Well, based on the direction of the wind, the broken sticks in the corner, and the slight disturbance in the dirt, I'd guess they went left."
"You could really figure it out from all that?"
"No, you idiot. They sent me a text. See?"
For what seemed like the umpteenth time, Jacoba rolled her eyes at her companion. This was her second mission with the Expendables and, for some unknown reason, Barney decided to pair her up with Gunnar, whom she actually worked well with in the field. At home was a different story, but no use dwelling on that now. Especially when she really wanted to hit him now, since he had caused them to lose the others.
"You done attempting to look for them?"
"Yea, yea, sweet cheeks, Barney had said to just follow the trail and we'd get there."
"I foresee a problem then, big guy."
Gunnar stopped and turned to look at Jacoba. "Oh yea? What problem might that be?"
She smirked and pointed in front of them. He turned to see that, just ahead of them, there was fork in the road. "I don't think we know which way that they went, Viking."
Gunnar got to the fork and started to curse. After a couple minutes of looking for clues as to where the team went, he sat next to Jacoba as she passed him some water. The two of them had started acting slightly nicer to each other, though they still had some bad fights. Handing the water back to her, Gunnar looked at the woman he knew he was falling in love with. "So, which way did they go?"
Looking back at Gunnar, Jacoba smiled before getting up to look around the area. After about three minutes, she turned back in triumph. When Gunnar raised his eyebrow, she elaborated. "Well, based on the direction of the wind, the broken sticks in the corner, and the slight disturbance in the dirt, I'd guess that they went left."
He looked back at her in awe. "You could really figure it out from all that?"
Jaocba rolled her eyes as she reached into her back pocket. "No, you idiot. They sent me a text. See?"
Gunnar pushed her phone away and reached a had out for her to help him up. Once he was upright, Gunnar looked down at the one that they called the Amazon. "You're one of a kind, you know that right, sweetheart?"
"Always have been, always will be." As Gunnar shook his head and began to walk away, Jacoba took a shaky breath. Maybe, just maybe, she was getting a bit too wrapped up in her feelings for Gunnar. Shaking her head, she started after the Swedish giant, if only to ensure he didn't get into trouble.
