So, I may have been listening to my Pandora when "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" came on while I was figuring out the plot for this one-shot. Let's just say that the writing gremlins took over from there.
The legalities: I do not own any of the Expendables franchise (characters, places, and objects especially) and this is mostly au. I also don't own Green Day or any of their songs (I don't quote the songs, but I would rather be safe than sorry).Rated M just to be on the safe side.
Also, please don't be afraid to write reviews. I would love to hear from you all!
Hope you enjoy!
Prompt: "No, I said we were safer, not safe."
"Are you seriously humming right now?"
"It calms me down."
Jacoba could feel Gunnar's confused gaze on her for just a minute before he turned back to his rifle to watch the mark's movements, waiting for the signal to take him out. She was currently his back-up, leaning over her own rifle, tracking the team's movements to ensure that their approach would be smooth. Though she did know that he wouldn't leave her humming alone for long.
"Were you really humming a Green Day song?"
She smirked for a second before seeing a possible problem. "Hold on." Jacoba pressed her comm to connect with the rest of the team. "Barn."
"Go."
"You've got goons headed your way from the south. I suggest you all move to the alcove on your three o'clock. It would be safer than your current position. Copy?"
"Copy. Over and out."
Smirking again, Jacoba snuck a glance over at her partner for this, finding him to still be (mostly) focused on the mission. "To answer your earlier query, 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and 'American Idiot' are awesome. And kudos to you for knowing the artist." Turning back to her scope, she saw that the team was still doing well where they were. "Also, I thought that Caesar was giving me water or tea to drink on the plane, but it turned out to be coffee, so I'm just a bit jumpy."
As Gunnar groaned, their comms sparked to life with people swearing, Barney's being at the forefront. "Damn it, Amazon. I thought you said this was safe!"
Jacoba scoffed. "No, I said that you'd be safer there, not safe, boss man."
"Just take care of it. Both of you."
"Understood."
"No problem."
With a chuckle, the two sharpshooters began to clear the path for the team and take care of the mark. That was the fun part.
