Building A Plan
Entering Dingtao, with their army setting up and waiting outside the city, the four made their way to the centre of the castle town.
"Ah, that must be Dong Zhuo." Sun Jian noted.
They approached the rather corpulent gaudily dressed man who was barking orders at everyone around him. He turned when he heard their approached and narrowed his piggy eyes at the sight of them.
"Who are you supposed to be?" He barked.
Sun Jian bowed and formally introduced himself and his companions.
Dong Zhuo sneered. "Ah, the so called Tiger of Jiangdong, I've heard of you. I hope you're ready for this. How many men did you bring?"
Sun Jian told him and Dong Zhuo shook his head.
"Urgh, pathetic, you shouldn't waste any time then, just sit and wait."
"What do you mean sit and wait?" Cheng Pu queried.
Huang Gai then added. "We are experienced enough, their numbers don't scare us-"
"You fools!" Dong Zhuo snarled. "You will do nothing, I will not have my plans ruined. I need to come out on top here and so we must wait until the Yellow Turbans show their true numbers and that will get the Imperial Palace to send us enough troops to destroy them, that is all, until then however there is no sense in wasting my time or life for this nonsense."
"You-!" Huang Gai snapped.
Sun Jian cut him off however. "As you wish Lord Dong Zhuo, we nevertheless need to scout the nearby camp."
"Yes, yes, just stay out of the way." The brutish man said.
With that he turned away and the quartet left to another part of the castle to talk privately.
Shaking his head at what happened Han Dang sighed.
"Well, that was awkward…"
"You could've pitched in with your views too, Han Dang." Huang Gai groused.
Cheng Pu shook his head. "Enough you two. My Lord, what are you planning?"
He recognised the look on Sun Jian's face and knew that his mind was turning quickly.
Finally he smiled. "Well, let's go and scout the camp...maybe we can get a little closer than intended, we might have Yellow Turbans chasing us all the way back here."
"Well, that would certainly force Dong Zhuo to move." Cheng Pu replied with a smirk. "Would also make for some confusion."
"Then we can use that confusion to head straight for Zhang Jiao and finish him off." Sun Jian explained. "Cut the head off the serpent and the body withers and dies."
This satisfied the other two so they headed out and got on their horses, explaining to their forces to stay put for now and with that they got their weapons and rode forth to the Yellow Turban camp. It did not take them long to approach the camp, after nodding to each other and preparing their plan, they put things into motion. Han Dang readying his Short Pike and rushed the camp.
"Hold you Yellow Turban Rebels!" He yelled. "I am Han Dang and soon, those who survive will know exactly who I am!"
"Wh-who the, what-!?" Several Yellow Turbans cried out.
He immediately launched his attack, taking down the nearest Yellow Turbans with several quick strokes. One of the captains raised his weapon and tried to bark an order, only to be felled by a trio of arrows to his back. That was when Huang Gai and Cheng Pu, weapons at the ready, then broke from the trees and ran in to join Han Dang in attacking the Yellow Turbans. Another Captain tried to issue his orders only to receive an arrow through the head.
"Now, fear the wrath of Sun Jian!" The man himself cried, putting his bow away and drawing his main weapon to join the attack.
It was only after they took out the third Captain that the remaining troops fled and began shouting to get reinforcements.
The four regrouped and cleaned off their weapons.
"Alright, this should be enough." Cheng Pu remarked.
"Excellent strategy." A voice cut in. "Luring troops to Dong Zhuo to force him to make a move."
They turned to see three people approaching, all clad in varying shades of blue.
"Um excuse me, who are you?" Han Dang asked.
The man who had spoken before, the middle one, replied. "I am Cao-Cao, these are my cousins and loyal retainers, Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan."
Huang Gai smirked. "Ah, I've heard of you, a Hero of Chaos some say."
Cao-Cao scoffed at that while Xiahou Dun narrowed his eyes.
"Now that you know us, shouldn't you tell us who you are?" He snapped.
Sun Jian bowed. "Of course, my apologies, I am Sun Jian, This is Cheng Pu, Huang Gai and Han Dang."
"Hey, I know you." Xiahou Yuan burst out. "The Tiger of Jiangdong, we've met some illustrious company, my Lord."
Cao-Cao merely nodded and spoke. "This plan of yours, it will certainly pay off, we will help you, let us launch an attack on the other camp and lure in even more troops."
Sun Jian smiled and agreed with the plan so while Cao-Cao and his men went to deal with that, Sun Jian and his group returned to Dingtao.
Once they arrived they approached Dong Zhuo, who looked smug as ever, he turned when he saw them and brightened up.
"Ah you're back, so, how was the scouting mission?"
"Well-" Sun Jian began.
But then, right on cue, a messenger approached.
"R-Report, a large contingent of Yellow Turban troops is charging towards us."
"What?!" Dong Zhuo cried. "Arg, this is not...prepare for battle!"
With that he ran off to join his men, being forced to commit to combat.
"Alright, this will be the perfect chance." Sun Jian exclaimed. "Cheng Pu, did you find anything?"
"Yes, a few messages from Zhang Jiao to his men." Cheng Pu replied. "It seems they came from Yanjin, that is his most likely location."
"If not, there'll be a clue as to where he has gone or is located at least." Sun Jian agreed. "Alright, let's get going to the Yellow Turban base in Yanjin."
With that they all cheered and rallied their army, beginning their march.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
