First Conflicts
After ensuring Dong Zhuo was far enough away, Sun Jian turned to his retainers.
"Alright, this is our chance, we'll take the opportunity to march straight to Yanjin and slay Zhang Jiao."
Cheng Pu smirked. "I see, a good plan, cut off the head of the serpent and the body will crumble. Slaying Zhang Jiao will surely give us an advantage of the remaining Yellow Turban Forces."
"Will it really be that easy though?" Han Dang asked. "Doesn't Zhang Jiao have two brothers, wouldn't they simply take his place as the leader of the Yellow Turbans?"
"True, but they'll he easier to handle than Zhang Jiao, they can't be stronger than him at least, it wouldn't make sense otherwise for him to lead these rebels." Huang Gai countered.
"You all make excellent points, but defeating Zhang Jiao will deal a heavy blow to Yellow Turban morale." Sun Jian explained. "As such it is our best option, now, are the men ready?"
"Our army is all rested and set for the march." Huang Gai continued.
Sun Jian nodded and they all mounted their horses.
"Then let's go, forward march!" He cried.
With that the army gave a resounding cheer and they left Dingtao, beginning their march. It would be a long march, especially going by the paths, but it would serve them and help them reach their destination without much fuss.
Enjoying the beautiful countryside Sun Jian cast up a glance up to the sky and calculated the time.
'Hmmm...we should make it to Yanjin after nightfall, might give us an advantage if we catch them off guard sleeping.' He mused.
It was something to hope for and would likely give them the edge they'd need to win the battle.
"My Lord?"
He was jolted out of his thoughts by a concerned Han Dang who was riding alongside him.
"Han Dang, what's troubling you?" He asked.
Han Dang shook his head sadly, looking around. "I don't like it, My Lord. It's too quiet."
Sun Jian paused, looking around, listening carefully. Aside from the clop of hooves, the tramping feet of their army, there was no sounds, no animals, nothing in the trees surrounding them.
"You're right...alert Huang Gai and Cheng Pu-"
But it was too late, at that moment, from amongst the trees and valleys around them, yellow banners were raised and there were shouts as the Yellow Turbans came charging out. One stood out, clearly being in higher ranked from his attire.
"Ambush!" Huang Gai yelled.
The man let out a chilling laugh, even able to he heard from the distance they were at. "Fools, crush them all!"
With that the Yellow Turbans closed in on Sun Jian's forces, ready to take them down, leaving them in a tight and dangerous spot.
Cutting down two Yellow Turban troops who attempted to attack him, Sun Jian grimaced, trying to calm his horse and turn around. He looked up at the Yellow Turban officer who was directing the attack against them.
'Hmmm, that scar...one was mentioned by the Imperial army that had a scar...of course, Bo Cai.' He noted.
He silently cursed himself, he should have been wary for an ambush, especially with Bo Cai in the Yellow Turbans, he'd already developed a reputation for being dangerous in ambushes.
"My Lord, we're being pushed back." Cheng Pu hissed as he narrowly blocked an attack.
Sun Jian shook his head. "I know, we walked right into this one, I'm not sure we-"
At that moment however, something unexpected and rather welcoming happened. There was a shout of panic from the Yellow Turbans from the rear of the forces attacking Sun Jian and his army.
"What?" Bo Cai gasped. "What is happening?"
"There's, there's an enemy army attacking us from behind...we're, we've been ambushed in turn!" His direct subordinate remarked.
Bo Cai grimaced. "Curses, how could...Peng Tuo, go and stop them, we-!"
He couldn't finish his sentence before Xiahou Dun appeared, armed with his Podao and swiftly separated Peng Tuo's head from his shoulders. It was at that moment Xiahou Yuan, armed with Twin Rods, also appeared and beat down several nearby men. Bo Cai staggered back and turned to try and flee, only to stop when he saw Cao-Cao, mounted and holding his General's Sword directly at Bo Cai's head.
"No!"
With a swift move Cao-Cao killed Bo Cai and panic spread through the Yellow Turbans attacking and they swiftly dropped their weapons and ran for their lives.

Things had finally calmed down, thankfully Sun Jian found that only a few of men had been lost to the ambush and those who were wounded were only superficial. They had already been treated and they were all resting. He joined his retainers and went to meet Cao-Cao and his cousins.
"It seems I owe you a debt of gratitude, Cao-Cao."
Cao-Cao shook his head. "It was pure chance that I showed up here. Nevertheless I am glad I did. It seems our attempts to lure Dong Zhuo into taking action have worked, however I've gained some recent news that might change plans. What are you doing here?"
Sun Jian smiled. "Well, simply put we were on our way to Yanjin, it seems Zhang Jiao is there."
"Ah, so you hope to bring a swift end to this Rebellion?" Cao-Cao noted. "Hmm, I wonder, would it really be that simple?"
"What do you mean?" Cheng Pu asked, suspicious.
Xiahou Dun cut in. "There's a lot going on, a simple forced march against Yanjin might not be best, not unless you plan to ignore things going on around you."
"Yeah, for example, you'll pass Puyang on your way to Yanjin, Yellow Turbans are attacking there, apparently some local peasants are trapped and may be under attack." Xiahou Yuan explained.
"What?" Huang Gai gasped.
Sun Jian sighed. "I see, you're right, we need to figure out what to do here...how can we break the Yellow Turbans power in this region?"
There was a momentary silence after he said that.
Finally, Cao-Cao spoke up.
"There are Imperial Forces in trouble in Xiaopei, south of here, I'm going to aid them with some of my forces. I think you should take yours and go to Yanjin still, when you pass Puyang deal with the Yellow Turbans there and save the peasants." He remarked. "Meanwhile, Xiahou Dun, Xiahou Yuan, cut through the mountains by that pass over there."
He pointed it out and they nodded.
"I remember." Xiahou Dun said. "We heard Zhang Miao is in trouble that way, we'll go and save him, then we can regroup."
"Correct, after regrouping we'll close in on Zhang Liang's position and take him down." Cao-Cao finished. "Is that alright with you, Sun Jian?"
Sun Jian nodded. "It works out well enough for me, good luck out there."
"To you as well."
With that they returned to their now rested armies, mounted and were soon splitting up to begin their advance to continue the struggle against the Yellow Turbans.
