Destruction of the Yellow Turbans
The following morning, the Imperial Army was ready and sure enough, the Yellow Turbans within Guangzong were also prepared, strangely and worryingly, the gates at each side of the city were wide open.
"They're clearly expecting us." Sun Jian mused.
But he knew, as did everyone else, there was no going back now and soon the war horns sounded and with a shout the Imperial Army charged, making their way into the city and soon clashed with the Yellow Turbans within. Then, shocking everyone, a voice echoed around the whole city, almost immediately they realized it was Zhang Jiao, magically amplifying his voice.
"Fools, the days of the Han are over, now is the time of the Yellow Turbans!" He cried. "Unleashed the power of the heavens, you will never penetrate our defences! To the North, raging winds, to the East, awesome lightning, to the South unbreakable rocks, to the West, terrible ice!"
With that it happened, the Imperial Army began to shout and panic as Zhang Jiao's spells took effect. Sun Jian grimaced and along with his retainers tried desperately to fight off the Yellow Turbans while miniature tornadoes sprung up to attack and kill several Imperial troops all around. It seemed that west was under a torrent or razor sharp hail, rocks rained down on the south while bolts of lighting struck in the east. It was a devastating defence.
That was until he saw a familiar face, Zhou Cang was leading the Yellow Turban forces in the North.
"That's it, take them down, don't give them a chance to breathe!" He cried out.
Sun Jian noticed something. 'There's a glow around him, could it be…'
He decided to take the chance and signalled to Cheng Pu. Understanding, Cheng Pu raced towards Zhou Cang and leapt from his horse, attempting to attack with his double pike. Zhou Cang quickly used his Great Sickle to deflect the strike and glared.
"You again, you just keep getting in the way." He snapped.
Cheng Pu smirked. "If you keep fighting for the Yellow Turbans, then you're going to keep facing us as enemies."
With that he attacked, Zhou Cang dodged and quickly countered. Cheng Pu was forced to defend against several strikes but he turned out to be biding his time. He took advantage of an opening and launched a powerful series of attacks, injuring Zhou Cang. Zhou Cang grimaced but quickly managed to roll away from another attack.
"Urgh, how...no, it's over." He hissed.
Before Cheng Pu could attack again Zhou Cang fled, the glow around his body faded and at that moment, the winds ceased.
"That's it, send word to the others!" Sun Jian exclaimed. "Yellow Turbans that are glowing are channelling the magic, we can break the defences that way!"
So it was word had spread and to Zhang Jiao's dismay, the defences were breaking down one by one, thanks to Xiahou Yuan taking out Pei Yuanshao, Zhang Fei doing the same to Liao Hua, both fleeing, while finally the Yellow Turbans to the south were slain and the boulders disappeared, leaving them vulnerable as the Imperial Army made it to the middle of the city.
That was when they ran into trouble again, a large body of Yellow Turban troops were forming a blockade.
"What is the hold-up!" Dong Zhuo yelled. "Just plough right through them!"
Liu Bei intervened. "They are simply peasants, they have been deceived by Zhang Jiao, we cannot simply kill them!"
This led to a stand off, but Sun Jian had took a chance and, before anyone noticed, he had slipped into the central keep, running straight into Zhang Jiao.
"So...a dog of the Han comes barking at my feet!" He scoffed. "I will make an example of you, behold my power!"
With that Zhang Jiao raised his arms, his staff flaring with fire as he suddenly was surrounding by a powerful aura. Sun Jian glared and readied his weapon. Sun Jian attacked but to his shock Zhang Jiao easily blocked the attack and the follow up attack but then Zhang Jiao attacked and Sun Jian blocked only to grunt in shock, staggering back as he found himself stumbling, his arms almost numb.
'What...what on, how did he-?' Sun Jian thought in shock.
He was forced to dodge as Zhang Jiao suddenly launched a massive fireball at him and Sun Jian grimaced, then he saw the altars, now it made sense. Zhang Jiao was drawing power from them, making him even more powerful.
"What say you now, Dog of the Han!" Zhang Jiao laughed. "Are you ready to surrender?!"
"Never, I've worked out your secret and so have my allies." Sun Jian replied with a grim smirk. "Now!"
He leapt up and attacked Zhang Jiao who blocked. But this allowed Cheng Pu, Han Dang and Huang Gai to attack and destroy the three altars. Zhang Jiao let out an anguished cry as the aura disappeared and he saw the destruction.
"No, my altars, ahh, the power is fading from my body!"
Sun Jian took the chance and attacked with a powerful upwards slash then a downwards one, wreathed in fire and Zhang Jiao let out a yelp of pain and despair as he hit the ground.
"Beasts of the Han...this land in which our comrades are made to suffer...the heavens will never allow it to stand." He wheezed before finally the life left his body.
It didn't take long following Zhang Jiao's death that the remaining Yellow Turbans fled or surrendered and it was declared that the Yellow Turban Rebellion was over.

However lessons were not learned from this and despite Sun Jian finding the eunuch that Dong Zhuo had bribed and even finding the coins used in the bribe, old outdated Huanqian coins, Dong Zhuo simply bribed another Eunuch and when it came to the rewards being distributed for everyone's efforts in stopping the Rebellion, he wasn't punished for his role in Lu Zhi's imprisonment.
Instead he was sent to Tianshui in Yong Province while Zhang Wen, an Imperial official who had brought Dong Zhuo into the Imperial Army to fight the Yellow Turbans, was punished instead, being exiled to Bing Province. Meanwhile Huangfu Song and Zhu Jun managed to convince Emperor Ling to release Lu Zhi and Cao-Cao was also rewarded for his actions, being given an Imperial post.
But Sun Jian and Liu Bei were ignored and brushed aside, Sun Jian only managed to gain his own position by paying off that very same eunuch, by using the same Huanqian coins, therefore sending a message to the eunuch, rather than a bribe. It had the desired effect, Sun Jian was given his reward, his actions recognized and the eunuch actually fled for his life. Sadly Liu Bei was merely given a small marquisate in Anli village. Sun Jian knew that trouble was on the horizon, with corruption still in place, it was only a matter of time before another rebellion took place.
