The Prefect of Changsha

Arriving at the Capital of Luoyang, Sun Jian made his way to the Imperial Palace and bowed low before the Emperor.

"Your Imperial Highness, I have returned at your request." He announced.

Emperor Ling smiled. "Excellent Sun Jian. I am glad you are here. We have decided that we need to act now on Ou Xing."

Sun Jian looked up. "Your Highness?"

"I know what you're going to say, don't worry about Liang Province, Zhang Wen and Dong Zhuo can handle that. You are going to Changsha to deal with Ou Xing." Emperor Ling explained. "After all, you can't have a bandit roving over your new land, Prefect of Changsha."

Sun Jian was a little taken aback by that announcement, but he understood the game the Imperial Court was playing and he could only play his part.

"As you wish, Your Imperial Highness, I will depart at once. Ou Xing will be dealt with." He replied with another bow.

With that he was dismissed and left to rejoin his people outside the capital where the army and horses were all waiting.

"My Lord, what did the Emperor want?" Han Dang asked.

Sun Jian smiled. "We're going to Changsha, to deal with Ou Xing...then we're staying there as I have been appointed Prefect of Changsha."

That surprised the others but they quickly pulled themselves together as Sun Jian gave the order and they readied themselves, beginning the long journey to Changsha.

Finally reaching the walled castle city of Changsha, Sun Jian and his men began setting up their defences and resting from their long journey, Sun Jian met with some of the people and officials present in the city, he introduced himself and explained his purpose.

"Ah, Lord Sun Jian." One of the officials replied. "We received word you were coming, thank you for coming to deal with that monster Ou Xing."

Sun Jian nodded. "Well, fear not, my forces and I will deal with him, is there anything else I need to know about things in Changsha."

"As the new Prefect you will have plenty of duties." One official stated.

"I'm afraid we've not had anyone able to handle most of the issues here since our last Prefect was killed by Ou Xing." Another added.

The people were clamouring too, afraid but hopeful that Sun Jian would be able to help them with their problems.

Sun Jian nodded slowly. "Well, we better get set up, I'll need to get started right away. That said, we cannot simply leave Ou Xing to run wild."

"That bandit is lying in wait right now, I don't believe that he'll attack yet, not until he's ready, he'll be preparing his men for battle." A third official spoke up.

Sun Jian nodded and so, setting up lookouts, he headed for the main castle and took his place at the head table, ready to help the people with their problems as best he could for now.

A fair number of the issues couldn't be resolved until Ou Xing was defeated. Sun Jian was able to resolve a number of other issues however and help the people, this was already winning them over as it seemed the previous Prefect was not quite so thorough in sorting through problems although Sun Jian noted that instead of many of the local governors appointed in the last few years, his predecessor did not seem corrupt, just inept. That was when one of the lookouts showed up.

"My Lord!" He cried. "Ou Xing is coming with his forces."

Sun Jian stood up. "Alright, everyone, take shelter. Rally our troops, it's time for battle."

The others all gave a rallying cry while everyone in the city got prepared to take shelter, Sun Jian and his army rode out from the city and formed up, ready to meet Ou Xing as he arrived. The rabble of bandits, who were indeed backed up by former Yellow Turbans, Sun Jian even recognized a few, came to a stop, as if not expecting there to be a large army formed up and waiting for them.

"What is all this!?" A loud voice boomed. "Stop standing around you fools, we're hear to raid the city again, now-!"

He trailed off as he rode forwards and stopped, now finally seeing the army himself. It was a giant of a man, very rough and clutching his weapon, unquestionably Ou Xing.

"Ou Xing, I presume." Sun Jian announced. "I am Sun Jian, the new Prefect of Changsha, I have been waiting for you, it's time for your rampage to come to an end."

Ou Xing scoffed and shook his head. "Oh, I see now, another Han dog who thinks he's some hero. Changsha is mine now, so you better surrender if you know what's good for you."

Sun Jian merely smirked and called out. "Cheng Pu, Huang Gai!"

With that the ambush was launched and the bandits fell into a panic.

Just as Sun Jian planned, the bandits fell into disarray and he led his forces onwards, the full force of the Sun army fell upon the bandits, despite the bandits army being larger in size it was ill-prepared and ill-equipped and only seemed so fearsome because of the ineptness of the previous Prefect and his forces, while everyone else they attacked were simple villagers who couldn't defend themselves. They didn't know how to handle a well-disciplined army who could fight back.

"What is this, stand your ground, I said stand your ground!" Ou Xing yelled.

But it was no good and soon many of his more prominent bandits, ones that acted like officers, were slain, the former Yellow Turbans were fleeing as were many other regular bandits.

"It's over Ou Xing, you can't win against us." Sun Jian snarled.

He blocked Ou Xing's attack as he said that.

Ou Xing was outraged and attacked again and again. "No, you can't-This isn't right. Changsha is mine, mine!"

Sun Jian ducked under one attack and finally he struck out, managing to attack and take out Ou Xing with a powerful blow, combined with similar blows at the same time from Huang Gai, Han Dang and Cheng Pu. The force of four deadly attacks at once was enough to kill the massive bandit and end his rampage at last. Sun Jian quickly gave orders as he knew there was mopping up to do as well, but the hard part of the battle was done and it was time to restore order.

So it was, many days later, that Sun Jian stood overlooking Changsha, smiling. Finally the bandits had been rooted out and removed, order and peace was restored to Changsha and its surrounding lands he was governing well, his officers and even his family had been brought over and settled in and he let out a soft sigh. He knew there was still trouble in Liang and that more chaos was likely on the horizon, but for now, there was a moment of peace and he was hopeful about enjoying it to the fullest while it lasted.
