Inuyasha

Turning back time...

Tap. Tap... A brown loafer beat on the wooden floor. The owner of the shoe straightens her freshly pressed green skirt, a bright smile consuming her.

"I'm leaving!"

The young girl called into her home, too impatient to wait for a reply, she rushed out the door.

Her long raven hair swept up behind her with the windy day, despite this, she knew; today was her day.

To be specific, it was her birthday!

Kagome Higurashi was finally turning fifteen, she was practically an adult now. An adult with a full set of plans for the day, meeting her friends by the school's gate, she'd have Wacdonalds secret birthday meal, then wrap the day up with Mama's special cake for dinner; then at long last- presents!

With all that in mind, Kagome practically ran through her family's temple, she almost didn't spare a glance at the small shrine containing the old dusty well.

That is until she spotted her younger brother, Sota, peeking into the well house.

"Hey, what are you..."

He turned to face her, his hands holding a bowl filled with cat food, the guilty look written all over his face is what drew her in.

"Nothing."

For a moment, she thought about just leaving it be. The girls were waiting for her after all, then again...

"You know you're not supposed to play in there" She walked over to him, black school bag in hand, ready to dash if need be.

"I'm not, it's the cat." Sota turned his worried eyes back to peer inside the dark room.

"Did he go down to the well?"

Growing brave with the back up from his older sister, Sota entered the shrine, sticking closely behind of course. Once inside he crouched low, just at the edge of the small wooden steps.

At the end of those steps sat the bone eaters well, legend said that demon slayers would toss the remains of the demons they killed into the well. Where they would be transported into the debts of hell, or so their grandfather told them.

"Buuyoo~" Sota called down, his voice as timid as his demeanor, "I don't know where else he could be."

Kagome sank down to his level, fixing him with a bored glance, "So go down."

"But why do I gotta be the one?"

"Because You're the one that's looking for him."

Before he could argue; small, but persistent, scratching noises seemed to echo in the small shrine.

"Ah-ah!" Sota scrambled behind his sister, "Something's down there!"

Kagome turned her head to look behind her, a less than tolerant look on her face, "Uh Yeah, the cat. Psh."

She moved down the stairs, already annoyed at the inconvenience of it all; as the scratches continued, they echoed off in such a way, now that she was closer, she realized...

'The sound... from inside the well?' Kagome paused when she reached the bottom; something was up, the well had been sealed for centuries, how would her overly plush cat get down there?

The sudden thump beside her that had New-Adult Kagome jumping and shrieking away, "Uh-Ah!"

Hearing his sister's startle cry, Sota jumped back and away, screaming as he did so.

Kagome ignored his cries, simply staring down at the round feline rubbing up against her leg.

"Buyo?" Sota questioned.

Bending down to pick him up, she felt a little foolish for letting her imagination run away with her, it didn't help when her kid brother rose to taunt her.

"You made fun of me cause I'm scared then you're all 'UuuAhhAHH"

Hearing her brother's mocks, Kagome huffed, turning on a dime to defend herself.

"Huh!? Look who's talking Mr. Why-do-I-have-to-go-down?"

Sota was thinking of a comeback when he heard it, the scratching. But... Kagome had Buyo in her arms. Plus, the noise seemed to be coming from behind...

The well shinned for a moment, with light that should have never been able to come from within the sealed well, "Sis, behind you!" Sota was on his feet, unsure of what to do as he watched the well burst open behind his frozen sister.

What was this feeling? Her mouth had gone completely dry as a powerful presence fell over her. It was almost- overwhelming. Sure enough, Kagome felt her limbs locking as fear quickly took over.

A second later she felt a rush of wind from behind her, chilling her insides. Something was coming.

She couldn't move even as she felt cold fingers slowly grab onto her arms. Kagome wanted to turn around, face whatever had her head-on, but her body disobeyed every order. More hands clasped around her tightly, spiking her fear as each clammy finger dug into her flesh just under her school shirt.

Then, with little effort, the hands started to lift her limp body off the ground.

She would have fallen, plummeted to the bottom of the well where the spirits would have her, she was sure of this.

Then Buyo bit her hand, hard; enough to bring a sense of reality to the frightened girl, as the feline kicked away from the danger to make a fast getaway.

One second something had her within its grasp, lifting her slowly off the ground. The next, Kagome felt a surge of energy, something foreign surging at the tips of her fingers.

She turned her head, looking back at what appeared to be many arms pouring out of the well.

"Let go... Let go!" There was a pink flash, a vibrant feeling canceling everything else out. A sudden wash of warm liquid that held her safe in its pure light.

Following was a loud ringing that sounded in her ears; for a second, she couldn't see anything but the pink blinding light. Slowly the ringing seized, the light dimmed, Kagome realized a little late her brother's presence in front of her.

Then came the sound of Mama and Gramps rushing in, screaming for her, they made a bee line for them. Kagome sat, shaking lightly, crossed legged, and dumbfounded against the well.

"Sis what is that thing!?" Sota's frantic cries finally reached her, seeing where he was pointing, Kagome glanced down at the pale disembodied arm that still clutched tightly at her own.

"AHHHHHH!"
