Yay, it's another interlude!
Part 2 of my backstory trilogy! I definitely alluded to this part of the backstory in one of the early prompts. This will also include hints as to some of the reasons that Jacoba and her biological family are at odds. So, here we go.
The legalities: I do not own any of the Expendables franchise (characters, places, and objects especially) and this is mostly au.Rated M just to be on the safe side.
Also, please don't be afraid to write reviews. I would love to hear from you all!
Hope you enjoy!
There were times when Jacoba couldn't really believe the strength she was finding within herself now. It had been about four months since she had left New Orleans, having been taken back to her birth givers after being kidnapped two months before. Once she'd gotten there, the crazy people had started to go off on her, asking where she'd been and the like. When Jacoba attempted to explain that she had been kidnapped, they spoke over her accusing her of lying to upstage her sister's wedding and get out of her responsibilities. That was definitely the final straw.
By the time her birth givers had introduced her to the man that they had chosen for her to marry, Jacoba already had her plans to disappear in a place. She had been lucky enough to befriend a prolific hacker before she'd been kidnapped. He had also owed her a favor, which she'd decided to cash in for him to fully redo her identity, burying the one that she had been given at birth so deep that even he couldn't find it. She was now, officially, Jacoba Dixie Kooper.
As soon as she'd heard from the hacker that all was done (and he told her that he had secured all of her savings and other money on top of it), she had left in the dead of night. After catching a bus to Nashville, Jacoba had started walking and hitchhiking the rest of the way. She sighed as she stuck her thumb out again, since she had heard another car coming. This method had gotten her as far as just past Livingston, Alabama, almost to the Mississippi border. And it looked like someone new was about to stop for her again.
Jacoba turned to the window of the now parked car, smiling as she leaned over and waited for the window to roll down. When it did, she couldn't stop herself from staring. There in the driver's seat was Lacey, Lee Christmas's girlfriend. They had met twice briefly while she had been staying with the Expendables, and had seemingly hit it off.
"Somewhere I can take you, Jacoba?"
Jacoba grinned widely as she tossed her bags into the back seat and hopped into the passenger seat. "All the way home, Lacey. I think that's where I belong."
