With the ominous message on the wall hinting at danger within the Chamber, Harry and his friends know they have to act quickly to save whoever has been taken. They rush through the dimly lit hallways of Hogwarts, making their way to the first-floor girls' bathroom, where Moaning Myrtle resides. They know that the information Myrtle might provide is crucial to their mission.

Harry, Daphne, Draco, and Neville are joined by Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Despite their reservations about Lockhart's capabilities, they recognize that having a professor with them might be an advantage in dealing with the unknown threats within the Chamber.

Upon entering the bathroom, they are met by the ghostly figure of Myrtle, her usual air of gloom surrounding her. Myrtle's accusing tone fills the room as she says, "What are you boys doing in a girl's bathroom?"

Harry steps forward, a sense of urgency in his voice. "Myrtle, we need your help. We're looking for the Chamber of Secrets."

Myrtle sighs, her ghostly form wracked with sorrow. "The Chamber? Why do you want to go there? It's a terrible place."

Determined to learn more, Harry and his friends, Daphne, Draco, and Neville, ask Myrtle, "Can you tell us how you died in detail? We need to understand what happened."

The group listens intently as Myrtle recounts her tragic tale. After being bullied by Olive Hornby, she seeks refuge in the girl's bathroom, where she hears a boy's voice and hissing sounds. In a fit of irritation, she opens the bathroom door to confront the intruder, only to be met by a pair of enormous yellow eyes, staring directly into her soul.

Myrtle can't recall anything that happened after that, only that she died in the bathroom. Her story sends shivers down their spines, and they deduce that she was killed by the Basilisk's deadly gaze. They realize that the entrance to the Chamber must be in that very bathroom.

After her tale, Myrtle begins to cry once more and floats away from them, leaving the group to carry on with their mission.

With the knowledge of the Chamber's location, Harry and his friends begin to search the bathroom for the entrance. Neville's keen eye spots a snake-like faucet protruding from one of the sinks. Harry knows that this is their clue. Using his Parseltongue ability, he hisses "open" to the faucet.

In response, the faucet turns, revealing a hidden tunnel leading down into the depths of the Chamber. Without hesitation, they push Lockhart into the tunnel first, and one by one, Harry and his friends follow, jumping into the darkness. They tumble through the narrow tunnel, crashing on top of one another in the process. When they emerge on the other side, they are covered in dirt and unpleasant odors, their robes in disarray. But there's no time to dwell on their appearance.

As they prepare to venture deeper into the Chamber, Lockhart, who has been silent until now, reveals his true intentions. He confesses that he has used memory-erasing charms to steal others' achievements and claim them as his own. With a wicked glint in his eye, he declares, "I'm going to do the same to you, my young friends."
