As much as Dee loves making sure the criminals he and Ryo arrest get what's coming to them, this is one part of the job he could do without.

It's not so much that he dislikes being called as a witness; the testimony of the investigating officers is often key to making a case stick, easily as important as whatever evidence is gathered by the crime scene techs. There's a whole chain of events to be laid out in a way the jury can understand, and Dee knows both he and Ryo are good at that. Juries like them, and defence attorneys are learning to fear them. It gives Dee a feeling of power, even if he finds some of the judges intimidating.

No, what really chafes at him is the sheer waste of valuable time. He and his partner have five open cases they're working, but here they are, dressed in their best suits, waiting their turn on the witness stand. They've been here since nine, it's almost one, and a recess has been called for lunch. In an hour, they'll be back on that damned bench, still waiting impatiently, and hoping proceedings don't drag to the point where they won't be needed today at all.

"We could'a been canvassing for witnesses to the shootin' of that homeless guy instead of sittin' around here twiddlin' our thumbs," he grumbles as he trails after Ryo to grab a bite to eat at a nearby café.

"I know, and I don't like it any more than you do, but the defence attorney is stalling. Either he's got something up his sleeve or someone's putting pressure on him to drag the trial out."

"Whatever he's playin' at, ain't gonna work. Moretti's a murderer."

"We just have to prove that to the jury."
