"And as if all that wasn't already bad enough, the sanctimonious bastard had the nerve to accuse me of droppin' the ball on the Osterman case! Like I was the one who lost the missin' evidence bag, when it was never given to me in the first place!" Dee continued angrily.
"That's a low blow," Ryo commiserated. "Especially since the guy who lost it already owned up and got put on report. He's got to re-read the section of the handbook on evidence handling and take a test; in the meantime, he's on suspension. I don't see why Commissioner Rose would blame you."
"Oh, lemme see… 'cause he hates me? Or maybe it's 'cause he's jealous you're with me and not with him."
"You're making him sound petty and he's not. Maybe he just hasn't seen the Chief's report on the matter."
Dee turned an incredulous glare on his lover. "You're taking that rat bastard Rose's side?"
"Of course not! He was wrong to say that; I just think he maybe doesn't have all the facts. I'll talk to him in the morning, straighten this out."
"That's probably exactly what he wants, to get you alone in his office," Dee grumbled. "You know what happened the last time, or what would've happened if I hadn't interrupted."
Ryo laughed. "Even if that's true, and I don't believe it is, I already set him straight on the matter once, and I can do it again."
"You're sayin' if he tries anything you're gonna punch him in the mouth?"
"Well, no, I'd rather not do that again." Ryo frowned. "Hitting my superior wasn't a wise career move, and I'm not sure how I got away with it the first time. But aside from that, it really hurt my hand."
Dee snickered. "I'll bet!"
