"This is somethin' I never expected to be dealin' with," Dee said, standing over the body of the deceased. The surroundings were perfectly normal for a detective in the Serious Crimes Unit, a filthy back alley behind a row of small businesses, among them a liquor store, two fast food places, and an all-night grocery. The problem was the dead body, which had blue skin, yellow eyes, sharp, pointy teeth, and was dressed in flowing robes. "When they said it was a dead alien, I figured they meant an illegal immigrant, not some guy from another planet."

Ryo snickered. "He's not an alien, Dee, he's just dressed like one. He's as human as you or I."

"You sure 'bout that? His skin's blue, and look at his eyes, and those teeth!"

"Colored contacts, and the teeth are fakes, fitted over his real ones. They're slipping a bit at one side. The skin color is mostly makeup." Using the tip of his pen, Ryo lifted the edge of one loose sleeve, revealing that the blue coloration only extended a few inches up the deceased's arm. "He's dressed as a character from one of Bikky's favourite anime. Must have been attending the convention running at the Javits Center, but that begs the question of how he ended up way over here."

"Maybe he's a local, headed back home after a day of convention fun. Guess we'll know more once the coroner cleans him up and we can identify him."

"You're disappointed he's not an actual alien, aren't you?" Ryo teased, knowing his partner's love of sci-fi shows and movies.

"'Course not, it's a relief he's just a human in costume. Think about it; if he was an alien, we could be facin' a major interplanetary incident instead of just another homicide investigation."
