A/N: First off just wanted to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about the little issue of the heat being left turned up at the house and we WILL get back to that I promise – just not for bit yet. In the meantime this chapter again references happenings from Chapter 8 and 103 of TMCC.

Chapter 7: Dotting 'I's and crossing 'T's

Standing in the kitchen rinsing dishes and loading them into the dishwasher Jamie turns to grab a dish off the kitchen island and smirks at the sight of his wife at the kitchen island eating left overs. He shakes his head then turns back toward the dishwasher.

Suddenly Mia walks into the kitchen, places her hands on her hips and looks between Jamie and Eddie "Alright Uncle Jameson and Aunt Edit…" She authoritatively begins causing both Jamie and Eddie to look over at her in surprise "I've thought about it…" She continues as Rosa hurries into the room "And I want to know how this baby is going to affect ME!"

"Mia!" Rosa admonishes as she tries to offer Jamie and Eddie an apologetic look.

"Uncle Jameson?" Jamie repeats.

"You can thank my mother for that one." Eddie laughs.

Mia crosses her arms unimpressed "Still waiting." She demands.

"MIA!" Rosa chides.

"What?" Mia counters "Are they still going to be my Aunt and Uncle or are they going to be too busy with the new baby?"

"I'm so sorry." Rosa profusely apologizes to Jamie and Eddie.

"No, it's okay." Jamie laughs "We actually kind of expected this reaction."

Eddie nods in agreement "Besides we got way worse attitude from her when you were in the hospital so we're used to it."

Rosa covers her face in embarrassment.

"We promise we aren't going to forget about you." Jamie tells the young girl.

"Impossible." Eddie agrees.

"Yeah, you're family now." Danny adds as he walks in the room and hands Jamie more dishes from the table "So you're stuck with them." He tells Mia before lifting his head to look at Rosa "When it's time for her first date be sure to let Jamie know so he can do a background check on the guy first."

Rosa lifts her head to see Jamie nodding in absolute agreement.

"She's nine…" Rosa slowly states in bewilderment as she watches Danny disappear from the room.

"Almost ten!" Mia immediately corrects.

Eddie dismissively waves her fork in the air as she tries to quickly chew and swallow so she can talk "He did that already. Billy."

Rosa turns to look at Jamie in disbelief "You ran a background check on a nine year old?"

"I did not!" Jamie protests.

Eddie rolls her eyes "Fine. His family."

A look of disbelief appears on Jamie's face as he turns to stare at his wife "Who's side are you on?" He challenges.

"Right now? The side providing me with entertainment." Eddie admits with a chuckle "They did this with their niece Nicky." Eddie tells Rosa "Reagan's are very protective of their own."

"HELLO!?" Mia impatiently interrupts.

"Yes Sweetie?" Eddie replies before taking another small, quick bite of food.

"I am not a Reagan!"

"Of course not Sweetie." Eddie soothes "Not technically anyway." She tacks on "You are and will always be a Ruiz but you somewhere along the way also got adopted as a Reagan. That's why you now call us Uncle Jamie and Aunt Eddie remember?"

Mia looks between her mother, Jamie and Eddie. "Adopted? I'm confused. I can't be adopted!"

"It's a figure of speech Mia." Rosa explains before looking up at Jamie and Eddie "Unless you truly want to adopt her. I'm open to offers…"

"HEY!" Mia immediately protests to her Mother.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" Rosa promises her daughter as she moves towards her to hug her and give her a kiss on the head "I love you. You're my baby."

"You better be kidding." Mia mumbles.

Jamie and Eddie smile at the interaction.

"Hey Mia!" Sean interrupts as he walks in the kitchen "Want to go shoot some hoops?"

"SURE!" Mia agrees as she starts for the door.

"Put a coat on!" Rosa and Eddie both say before looking at one another and laughing.

"Already got it." Sean declares as he passes Mia her jacket.

"But it not that cold out and I'll be moving around!" Mia whines.

"Just put it on!" Rosa insists.

"I'll make sure she wears it." Sean promises as they head out the door.

Rosa nods in appreciation "You sure you don't want to adopt her?" she jokes to Jamie and Eddie.

"Ah no." Eddie declines "I'm just the adopted Aunt!"

"I know everyone is just joking around." Jamie suddenly interjects "But it does actually highlight something that I do think in all seriousness needs to be addressed."

Rosa and Eddie turn to look at Jamie.

"Oh?" Rosa questions.

"I know we are your emergency contacts." Jamie explains "But given what happened with you being in a coma I think its important there be something legal in place…"

"Legal?" Rosa questions in a raised voice.

"Before you panic, hear me out?" Jamie hopefully prompts.

Rosa glances at Eddie to see her offer her a small smile.

"Rosa..." Jamie begins "…you remember us mentioning that while you were in a coma Mia got sick and we had to take her to the hospital right?"

"Yes…"

"Well we encountered some… red tape…" Jamie explains "…where the hospital almost wouldn't give us updates on Mia's condition because we technically weren't her next of kin."

Eddie nods in agreement.

"If it wasn't for the fact that I literally ran into a nurse – Charlene…" Jamie continues "…who we knew from your floor and knew us, I was on my way to see your husband in jail to get some kind of temporary custodian agreement in place just so we could actually get info on how she was doing."

"It…it was that bad?" Rosa tries to clarify.

Jamie and Eddie both nod.

"But don't agreements like that take time?" Rosa points out "How would you have even managed that?"

Eddie scrunches her nose up and points at her husband "Um have we mentioned that he is also a licensed lawyer?"

Rosa's eyes widen as she looks at Jamie "You're a police Sergeant AND a lawyer?"

Jamie offers her a small smile and nod "Now again I don't mean to pry here but Rosa, do you and Manny have wills and power of attorney agreements?"

"No…" Rosa admits.

"Giving what's happened, you should seriously consider getting those made." Jamie prompts "I can help you with that if you'd like but I think it's important that – god forbid - there be a next time, legally all bases are covered."

"Wh…what would I need to do?"

Jamie takes a deep breath "Rosa I'm going to ask you a serious question and please be honest with us okay?"

Rosa nods.

"If something were to happen to you and Manny was still in jail would you want us raising Mia until her father got released?"

For a moment Rosa just silently looks between Jamie and Eddie "You…you would do that?"

"If you wanted us to, yes." Eddie jumps in "But only if you want us to." She repeats.

"Well of course I would." Rosa replies "Mia loves you guys and I know you love her and you're right, I should have something in place to protect her. There is no one else I'd rather have look after her if I can't and her father can't."

Jamie lets out a breath of air "Okay. Now we just need to put that on paper and again this is just as a precaution, one we hope we never have to use because honestly Rosa, four weeks with that girl was enough."

"Oh the attitude she gave us!" Eddie immediately but playfully tacks on causing Rosa to laugh.

"Thank you." Rosa sincerely and emotionally states "Thank you both for everything."

Jamie and Eddie nod in acceptance.

"So could I ask you something now?" Rosa tentatively inquires.

"Sure." Eddie shrugs.

"Would you um… consider being more then just her emergency contacts and honorary Aunt and Uncle?" Rosa hopefully inquires "Would you be her padrinos? Or in english…" she quickly explains "… her godparents?"

Tears spring to Eddie's eyes and she just motions for Rosa to come towards her. Rosa does and Eddie pulls her into a big, tight hug.

"Is that a yes?" Rosa laughs as she looks over Eddie's shoulder at Jamie.

Jamie nods his head "Definitely a yes."

Suddenly a basketball hits the kitchen window over the sink causing everyone to jerk in surprise before Jamie moves to lean over and look out the window.

"SORRY!" Mia apologetically calls out to him.

"Hey, she's your god daughter…" Rosa cheekily dismisses "... in your house - you deal with her."

Jamie looks back at Rosa "Technically… but not yet legally." He tosses back with a smirk.

Rosa groans while Eddie laughs "Fine." Rosa states as she heads for the door.

….

That evening Eddie sits in bed researching on her phone "Jamie this is huge Rosa asking us to be Mia's godparents." She explains as she reads "Everything I'm finding online says the role of a godparent in the Latino community is a HUGE deal. You are literally agreeing to be their 'compadres' or co-parent of the child. I had no idea that's what that word meant." Eddie rambles "It's not just some title Jamie. This is a big deal."

"Okay..." Jamie slowly agrees as he moves around the room getting ready for bed himself "Kind of sounds about the same as it would be for the role of an Irish catholic godparent and we don't even know how deep Rosa and Manny are into the tradition of that, I mean yes they are Hispanic but that's not the same as Latino. Latino references…"

"… a geological area of Latin America. I know." Eddie finishes "But still – coparents of Mia? That's just… wow."

"So what?" Jamie challenges as he climbs into bed and under the covers "You want to turn her down?"

"God no!"

"Then what's the problem?"

"There isn't one." Eddie states.

"Good." Jamie states before leaning over to kiss his wife's cheek "Now goodnight." he adds before turning back to the night stand to turn off the light and settle in on side away from Eddie to go to sleep.

"Good night." Eddie absently replies but she makes no attempt to actually settle in for the night - she just continues to scroll through and read her phone.

"Eddie." Jamie sighs a moment later knowing she hasn't moved "Go to sleep."

"I can't." Eddie replies "I'm too wound up."

At hearing that, Jamie turns over to look at his wife in concern "Why?"

"I don't know, I guess... just everything - the reveal went okay didn't it?" She suddenly asks.

"Yes." Jamie replies.

"Everyone seemed happy about the news, right?"

"Eddie, they didn't seem happy - they ARE happy. What's going on?"

"I don't know it's just now its…. its out there."

"Isn't... that a good thing?" Jamie hesitantly questions "Now we aren't trying to hide something from everyone anymore."

Eddie sighs and finally drops her phone to her lap "I know. I just… I don't know it felt like you and me against the world again."

Jamie's face scrunches up confused "When did it stop being you and me against the world?"

"I heard you trying to wrangle everyone before diner when I laying down." Eddie explains "I should have been down there helping you do that."

"Okay hang on here – you were lightheaded and about to pass out." Jamie reminds her.

"Exactly. I was of no help to you."

For a moment Jamie just stares at his wife in amazed wonder that she would see things that way so the next second he shrugs "Oh well you can make it up to me when you go into labor and deliver this kid because I'll be no help to you then either."

Eddie slowly turns her head to look at her husband "Oh. Right."

"We're partners Eddie." Jamie reminds his wife "We have each other's backs so when one can't, the other can."

Eddie's face softens and smiles at her husband "Today, tomorrow, forever."

"Today, tomorrow, forever." Jamie repeats as he reaches over and takes his wife's phone out of her hands and moves to place it on his nightstand away from her "Now goodnight. Go to sleep."

"Good night." Eddie repeats now more at ease as she settles down into bed and closes her eyes wondering what tomorrow will bring.

...

A/N: So there you have it - the baby reveal chapters are complete so just like Eddie - I wonder what tomorrow will bring... and by tomorrow I mean Tuesday - that's the next update - see you then! :)
