A/N: The moment a lot of you have been waiting for…

Chapter 54: Congratulations! It's A…

Jamie and Eddie sit in the exam room with the doctor looking at the screen.

"Alright." the doctor states as she moves the wand over Eddie's abdomen "You sure you want to know because once I say this word there is no going back."

Jamie and Eddie both nod in agreement "Yes."

"Okay." The doctor accepts "You're having a…

Jamie and Eddie hold their breaths…

"…Girl." The doctor finishes.

"Oh Jamie it's a girl!" Eddie gushes with tears in her eyes as she looks over at her husband to see him zoning out at the news…

A girl. Jamie just keeps hearing the doctor repeat in his head as suddenly all other sounds fade away. He knew Eddie and the doctor were still talking but he didn't hear any of it…

A girl. His baby is a girl. He's having a girl. A daughter… a little baby girl… A GIRL!

"Jamie." Eddie prompts "Jamie." She repeats again "JAMIE!"

"Huh?" Jamie mutters out as he slowly comes back to reality and turns to look at his wife to see her getting up off the exam table. A bit confused by her actions, Jamie looks around to see they are now alone in the room "Where did the doctor go?"

"She left because we're done." Eddie explains as she straightens out and fixes her clothes.

"We're done?" Jamie questions confused.

"Yes." Eddie confirms "While you zoned out in shock over the news the doctor and I finished the appointment."

"Oh." Jamie slowly breathes out "Sorry."

Eddie looks over at her husband amused "You gonna be okay?" she prompts "Did you want to take a minute and lie down?"

Jamie knew she was playing with him but for a moment he truly considered the offer because Damn it! They were having a girl!

At seeing his look, Eddie frowns slightly in concern "Seriously. Are you going to be okay?"

Jamie blows out a breath of air "I ah… we're… we're having a girl Eddie." He states in awe "I mean I thought that all along but now… now there's official confirmation and… it's a girl!"

"Yes." Eddie again confirms "So I repeat… you gonna be okay? You want me to call Danny? Have him pick you up so you can go get drunk again?"

Jamie shoots her a look before getting a far off look in his eyes "It's a girl."

Eddie laughs "Yes you keep saying that."

"A girl."

"Oh my god Jamie snap out of it!" Eddie demands "Be happy the doctor didn't say it's a girl and oops there's actually two of them – one was hiding behind the other so we didn't see it before."

Jamie groans at the thought of twin girls and just drops his forehead to rest on the bed.

Eddie walks over and lightly pats him on the back between his shoulder blades "There, there. It will all be okay." She promises.

"A GIRL!" Jamie repeats in awe.

Eddie rolls her eyes and shakes her head before turning to walk to the door "Come on or I'm leaving without you."

Slowly Jamie gets up and moves to follow his wife out the door.

"You better snap out of this before we get back to work…" Eddie warns "…or I'm calling Gormley and having you put on desk duty because you're in no condition to be out on those means streets like this."

"I'll be fine." Jamie mutters as he slowly starts to come to terms with his new reality – he's going to be a father to a little girl…

"And if Danny sees you like this…" Eddie continues "…he'll know instantly the verdict without us even saying anything so suck it up Jamie because I promised Erin he would not find out the sex before she did."

Jamie abruptly stops walking and reaches a hand out to stop his wife as well "You did what?"

"You heard me." Eddie reiterates as she turns to face him.

"Why would you do that?"

"Because I'm trying to keep the peace, that's why. He found out first we were having a baby. She gets to find out the sex first."

"So just call her now and tell her then." Jamie prompts.

"No." Eddie rejects "If I tell her now, she could tell others and again, I want to tell people the way I want to tell them."

Jamie groans "Are we doing the whole Sunday diner thing again?"

"Hey that was your idea the first time remember and I thought it went pretty well."

"But again?" Jamie whines "Nah ah." he rejects "No gender reveal shenanigans. None. You promised me that from the start."

"I never said there would be shenanigans." Eddie retorts "I just want as many people around at once -and by that I just mean the regular attendees – we don't need to invite Maria, Rosa, Mia or my parents. We can tell them all separately."

"So I gotta keep this bottled up until Sunday." Jamie notes.

"It's two days Jamie." Eddie points out "And what was it you said to me about coffee? Oh yeah… you'll survive." She deadpans before simply walking away.

….

"Bless us oh Lord in these thine gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord Amen."

"Alright, looks good I'm starving!" Danny quips.

"It's a girl." Jamie blurts out.

Eddie slowly turns her head to glare at her husband super unamused.

"You said Sunday!" Jamie defends at seeing her look "It's Sunday and I couldn't hold it in anymore!"

"What did you say?" Erin slowly questions.

Eddie sighs unimpressed then plasters a big smile on her face "It's a girl!" She brightly announces to the table "Surprise!"

There is a moment of silence before Erin shrieks "YES!" in glee as she just reaches over and pulls her sister in law into a big hug "Thank you. Thank you so much." She gushes.

Having had a front row seat to Jamie's previous meltdown over even the thought of the baby being a girl, Danny looks at his brother "Ah man I'm so sorry." He tries to sincerely state but underneath he just can't stop himself from laughing.

"Oh boy." Henry chimes in at seeing his youngest grandson trying to take deep calming breathes "Francis you got any advice for this one?" he queries as he knocks his thumb in Jamie's direction "How did you feel when you and Mary found out Erin was a girl?"

Frank sighs "Well we waited until she was born to find out for sure." Frank reminds them all "At that point she was there and it was just – deal with it – plus we were too busy scrambling to come up with a new name for me to panic about it."

"But Jamie has time to panic." Danny points out "And he seems to be doing a very good job of it."

Jamie lifts his head to glare at his brother.

"Okay that was my one and only shot." Danny promises his younger brother "You have to at least give me that one but now, I promise, I'll behave." he reiterates as he seriously looks at his brother silently reminding him that he's there to talk if he needs.

Jamie gives a nod of his head in return in acceptance and appreciation.

"It's a girl!" Erin gushes "This just… it just made my year! I still get first dibs on babysitting." She reminds the parents to be.

"A girl." Sean notes in thought "I bet Mia is happy."

"We haven't told her yet." Eddie replies "All of you are the first to know and you all found out together!" She proudly quips in triumph.

Erin narrows her eyes "So no body knew – not even him?" She challenges as she points at Danny.

Danny immediately holds his hands up "I didn't know anything! I swear!"

A giddy happy smile appears on Erin's face "Oh this day just keep getting better and better! Thank you!"

"You're welcome." Eddie returns "But just to reiterate only the people at this table know. We have yet to tell Rosa and Mia and Maria and my parents so please don't go blabbing it around until we do. I'll call my parents tonight and then tell Maria, Rosa and Mia tomorrow."

"So have you come up with names yet?" Sean inquires.

Eddie huffs out a laugh "Not even close."

"You have time." Frank offers "And don't second guess yourself. You'll know the right one when you find it."

"He would know." Danny points out "He and mom only had to come up with 4 sets. Isn't that right Patrick?" he adds as he looks at his sister.

Erin shoots her older brother a look.

"What?" Danny defends "I can't razz him…" he explains as he gestures at Jamie "…he's in too much of a fragile state right now..."

Jamie throws his hands up in the air "One and only shot my ass."

"…so that leaves me…" Danny continues on as he circles his finger in the air before pointing it at Erin "…you."

Erin turns her head to look at Eddie and Jamie "Have I mentioned how happy I am it's a girl?"

"Hey." Sean protests to his Aunt "I feel like I should be taking offense at that. What did I do?"

"Yeah I'm starting to see the benefits of it being a girl." Jamie tosses out as he glares back at his older brother.

"See?" Danny smugly quips as he gestures at his brother "I'm helping aren't I?"

Jamie opens his mouth to say something but then changes his mind when he realizes his brother did actually help "Your methods suck." He tosses back instead.

Danny smiles widely "But still helping right?" he prompts.

"Maybe a little." Jamie reluctantly admits "Because I always did like her better." he adds as he gestures at this sister.

"Oh!" Sean quips "Score one for Uncle Jamie!"

"Sure." Danny accepts "His one to my ten. I'm heartbroken over that, truly I am."

"Yup." Jamie mutters as he picks up his knife and fork and forcefully cuts his roast "Girl is looking better and better."

Danny smiles at his brother as he jams some food on his fork "See just needed a little nudge in the right direction." he arrogantly explains before popping the food in his mouth.

…..

Jamie stands in the kitchen emptying the leftovers into container when Danny walks in

"Alright…" Danny begins as he walks over "It's just us now so seriously, you okay?"

Jamie sighs "Yeah. I think the shock is wearing off."

"You'll be okay." Danny promises "You just gotta remember, she'll be a Reagan… and a Janko – that's a kick ass combination. I mean come on look at Erin – she's no slacker – but don't you dare tell her I said that and Nicky's more then holding her own too so she'll have no shortage of strong female roll models to look up too."

Jamie again sighs "I know."

"Besides, we all carry guns – no one is going to mess with her!"

Jamie huffs out a laugh "Honestly I'm more worried about her wild Janko side – and don't you dare tell Eddie I said that."

Danny holds his hands up in surrender.

"Don't get me wrong…" Jamie continues "I love my wife and I love her wild side but in my daughter? No." Jamie just flat out rejects with a back and forth shake of his head "Absolutely not! I don't think I can handle that. That's what's got me panicking."

"Yes you can handle it." Danny reassures his brother "And remember, she's half you too so I'm betting the logical booksmart full of reason personality wins out because Reagans are just stubborn that way."

Jamie sighs "But so are Jankos."

Danny smiles at the thought of his new kickass, level headed, smart as hell but take no prisoners, passionate about life niece "Man I can't wait to meet this kid!"

A small but ever growing smile graces Jamie's face "Me too."

….

"Have I mentioned thank you?" Erin repeats for the umpteenth time to Eddie as they stack and clear away the dishes from the table.

Eddie laughs "No. No I don't think you have." She jokes.

"Okay sorry." Erin apologizes "It's just all my life I've been mostly surrounded by boys. Don't get me wrong I love my brothers and my nephews and I know I have Nicky but…."

"But mostly boys." Eddie finishes.

"Exactly." Erin agrees "So…" She adds as a big grin appears on her face "THANK YOU!" She repeats yet again.

Eddie just laughs.

….

"Hi Mom, it's me." Eddie greets into her phone she has flat out in the palm of her hand on speaker "Is Dad around?"

"Yes why?" Lena returns.

"Get him please and then put your phone on speaker, Jamie and I have some news." Eddie adds as she looks over to her husband standing beside her.

"Hi Lena." Jamie greets.

"Okay hang on." Lena instructs as she puts the phone on speaker and Jamie and Eddie hear jostling as they assume she moves around looking for her husband "ARMIN! ARMIN WHERE ARE YOU? EDIT AND JAMESON ARE ON THE PHONE! THEY WANT TO TALK TO US!"

"Oh there you are." Jamie and Eddie hear Lena say a moment later.

"Where else would I be?" Armin's voice counters. "Hi Sweetheart, Jamie." he greets into the phone.

"Hi Dad." Eddie returns "Jamie and I just wanted to let you and Mom know that your grand baby is a grand daughter."

There is moment of silence on the other end of the line…

"Armin…" Lena's delighted voice sounds "It's a girl."

"Oh boy." Armin breathes out with an amused chuckle.

Jamie immediately picks up on his father in law's tone "What do you mean oh boy? Why do you say it like that?"

"I remember Edit when she was little." Armin replies "You're going to have your hands full son!"

"DAD!" Eddie admonishes "I was not that bad!"

Armin snickers.

Jamie groans.

….

"So!" Eddie quips as she saddles up next to Maria in the breakroom of the 5-4 "We officially out number them now."

"Excuse me?" Maria counters.

"Danny and Jamie – two boys. You and me – 2 girls. You have Elena – that makes 3 girls." Eddie continues to explain as a grin creeps up on her face "Now this baby…" She adds as she points at her stomach was either going to tie it all up or tip the scales and I am here to report that we are tipping the scales!"

Maria's mouth falls open "It's a girl?"

Eddie nods.

"Oh my god!" Maria cries as the women move to hug just as Jamie walks into the room and the second he sees them, he sighs

"Clearly didn't wait for me." he lobs at his wife knowing she already spilled the beans.

"No, I didn't Mr. I'm just going to blurt out the news at Sunday Diner."

"You were at least in the room at the time." Jamie counters back.

"And you're in the room now." Eddie points out.

"AFTER the fact." Jamie retorts.

"In the middle of the fact." Eddie corrects "Moment was still happening."

Jamie shakes his head at her illogical reasoning but decides to cut his losses "We tell Rosa and Mia TOGETHER."

Eddie shrugs "Sure."

"Wait." Maria suddenly states "Danny has Jack and Sean. We're STILL out numbered!"

"Damn." Eddie mutters while Jamie just shakes his head and rolls his eyes.

"Wait!" Eddie suddenly states "We have Rosa and Mia! They cancel Jack and Sean out!"

Jamie throws his hands up in the air in defeat wondering when it became a competition.

….

Rosa swings her apartment door open to see Jamie and Eddie on the other side "Hey." She greets as she steps aside "Come on in." She adds before turning her head backwards "Mia!" she calls "Your Aunt and Uncle are here!"

Mia comes running out of the bedroom to greet them.

"Okay what's the skinny? What's the scoop?" The young girl demands "What's this news you want to tell us? Is it good news or bad news? Will I like it or hate it?"

"Okay well if you stop talking…" Jamie interrupts "We'll tell you."

"Okay stopping talking!" Mia announces.

"Except you're still talking." Jamie points out.

"I am not!" Mia defends "Wait I am." she realizes so she just brings her hand up to her mouth and mimes zipping her lips shut then she wildly but silently gestures for them to go on.

"Okay." Eddie announces as she clears her throat "Rosa, Mia, we went to the doctor the other day for a check up and…"

"…and even though we said we weren't going to find out…" Jamie tacks on.

"We found out." Eddie finishes.

Mia looks at her godparents confused "Found out what?"

"What we're having." Eddie replies.

"Oh you mean if it's a boy or a girl." Rosa realizes.

Jamie and Eddie nod in confirmation and watch as Mia's eyes go wide.

"What? What is it?" Mia demands "What are we having?"

"Well WE…" Eddie emphasizes with a little laugh "…are having a…" but she pauses and looks at Jamie so they can coordinate and say it together…

"Girl." The couple announce in unison.

"A GIRL!" Mia shrieks in delight "It's a girl! I get a baby sister! Oh my god thank you! Mommy did you hear that? I get a baby sister!"

Rosa just shakes her head "There is no point in even trying to correct that anymore is there?"

"Was there ever a point?" Eddie tosses back.

"What's her name?" Mia then inquires "Do we have a name?"

"No." Jamie replies "We haven't come up with a name yet."

"Okay I'll figure one out." Mia decides.

"Okay hang on." Jamie laughs "You might have deemed yourself her big sister – which is fine - but your Aunt and I will be choosing her name okay?"

"Yeah well you said you were going to wait for her to be born before finding out if she was a she or a he but here we are!" Mia reminds him.

"Maybe so." Jamie admits "But still naming her is our job okay?"

"But…"

"Mia." Rosa warns "I let you name Mr. Mouse all on your own didn't I?"

"But he's not Mr. Mouse!" Mia protests with a whine "He's Reagan!"

"Okay bad example." Rosa admits.

"So if they got to name my cat…" Mia reasons as Jamie scrunches his face up in rejection of that statement "I should get to name the baby!"

"No." Jamie immediately rejects while Eddie shakes her head no in agreement.

Eyeing her Aunt and Uncle, Mia realizes they aren't giving in to her on this one…

"Or… at least help?" The young girl counters instead as she hopefully and sweetly looks back and forth between her Jamie and Eddie trying to turn on the charm.

Jamie sees her look then hangs his head a moment before leaning over to his wife "Did I say grey by the time she's five? I meant before she's even born."

Eddie chuckles a bit "How about this Mia…" She suggests "You come up with a few names and we will consider them BUT we make no promises okay? Like your Uncle said, the final decision is ours. Sound fair?"

"Not really but I'll take it." Mia mumbles "Okay let's see…" She ponders as she puts her thinking cap on "Aurora's not bad. Belle is pretty. Pocahontas and Rapunzel?" She wonders "Nah." She then rejects of those two "There's always Ariel, Elysa and Anna…" she lists "Jessie's pretty cool too… Oh Jasmine!"

Picking up on the pattern, Eddie flatly rejects "We are not naming her after Disney characters."

Mia abruptly stops listing names "Oh." She reluctantly accepts "Okay well I'll have to think on this and get back to you then."

"You do that." Jamie tosses back.

Beat.

"It's a girl!" Mia brightly sings "I get a baby sister!"

Rosa leans towards Jamie and Eddie "Thank you for just going with the flow."

Eddie leans towards Rosa "Takes less energy and I have so little of that now."
