Chapter 80: Grand What Now?

Jamie and Eddie walk down the hall towards their apartment door "Okay just pull your hat down a little more in the back." Eddie instructs as she looks over at her husband "I can still see some white of the bandage."

Jamie goes to comply but the action causes him to let out an involuntary "Ow." as the ballcap puts presses on the wound and he and Eddie immediately stop walking.

Eddie cringes "Okay I know it was my idea to wear a hat but take it off. It's aggravating your injury."

"It's fine." Jamie insists as he instead uses much more care in adjusting the cap "Better?"

An annoyed look appears on Eddie's face "Yes better." she begrudgingly states before adding "You Reagan's are so stubborn."

"Thank you." Jamie simply accepts before turning to continue on to the apartment door.

Shaking her head, Eddie moves to follow. Jamie automatically reaches into his pocket for is keys as they approach their door but then pauses and sighs as he looks back at his wife "May I have my keys back now please?"

Eddie hands over his keys.

"Thank you." Jamie accepts as he takes them and puts the key in the lock. He opens the door and he and Eddie step inside to be hit with the sound of Mia shrieking in delight. They immediately look towards the sound to see her, Armin and Lena all seated around the table playing a game.

"Hi…" Eddie slowly greets with a raised eyebrow "We're home."

"I'M WINNING!" Mia again shriek in delight to her Aunt and Uncle "Look at all my money!" She adds as she holds up her stack of Monopoly money "And I own a whole bunch of properties too! Mr. Armie says owning real estate is where the money is!"

Eddie leans over to her husband "See and you were worried she didn't know how to manage money."

Jamie rolls his eyes.

"Edit, Jameson…" Lena greets "Milagro is a very quick study."

Jamie tries to contain his smile "Milagro?" he repeats at his Mother in Law's continued tradition of calling people by their full names.

Mia immediately nods "It's my full name. Ms. Lena says my parent's spent a lot of time choosing my name and I should use it proudly!"

"Hmmm." Eddie muses unimpressed as she looks at her Mother "Did she now?"

Lena smiles sweetly at her daughter.

Eddie leans over to her husband whispering "Remind me again who's idea it was to ask them to babysit?"

"Yours." Jamie replies.

"Right." Eddie deadpans.

"I'm innocent in all this I swear." Armin jumps in "I'm already on parole – I don't need any trouble with the law."

"OHHH." Mia notes with a giggle "That's funny because they are the law!" She adds as she points at Jamie and Eddie.

"Exactly." Armin reaffirms to the young girl with a wink causing Jamie to suddenly wonder if he is getting a glimpse of how Eddie's relationship with Armin was when she was younger and he can't help but smile a little as he pictures his own daughter and Armin together.

"Alright." Eddie relents "That's enough for the night, Mia time to get ready for bed."

"It's Milagro." Mia corrects.

"You're own Mother and Father call you Mia." Eddie points out.

Mia thinks about that "Oh yeah." She realizes "Mia it is!" The young girl decides.

"Excellent." Eddie accepts as she briefly turns her attention to her Mother to smile triumphantly at her causing Lena to frown before Eddie turns her attention back to Mia "Now like I said, off to bed."

"But I'm winning!" Mia whines.

"Dad." Eddie sighs.

"Mia..." Armin begins but Lena begins to profusely cough.

"Milagro." Armin immediately corrects causing Lena to suddenly get better and smile.

"Oh my god Mom." Eddie sighs "Let it go, I like Eddie!" She insists.

"What?" Lena innocently deflects "I didn't say a thing!"

Eddie shakes her head.

"But since I'm being chastised for it anyway…" Lena continues "I just hope that your daughter doesn't disrespect the name you and Jameson have painstakingly chosen for her."

"Smooth Mom." Eddie deadpans.

Lena shrugs.

"Wait." Mia breaths out "You picked a name?"

"Partially." Jamie admits "We have a first name but still working on a middle name."

"What is it?!" Mia excitedly prompts.

"No." Eddie rejects "Not revealing anything until we have a full name and baby in arms to match it too."

Mia shifts her eyes to her Uncle causing Jamie to immediately hold up his hands and then point his hands at his wife "Please direct all your inquires to your Aunt Edit." he jokes.

"Thank you Jameson!" Lena happily beams at her son in law using Edit while Eddie turns her head to shoot her husband a very unhappy look.

Jamie shrugs in amusement before turning his attention to Mia "You know Mia once this baby is born Ms. Lena and Mr. Armie will have new titles. They will be Grand…"

"Grand MaMa!" Lena quickly jumps in cutting Jamie off "And Grand PaPa!" She announces with an air of sophistication.

Eddie tries to stifle back the laughing scoff that wants to escape her throat "Right. Of course. I should have known that."

Jamie leans over to his wife "Really?" He questions unsure.

"Oh course not." Eddie mutters in return before clearing her throat "Grand MaMa and Grand PaPa?" she challenges her Mother "Where did you come up with those? I never once called either of your parents Grand MaMa or Grand PaPa."

In response Armin simply sighs as he gestures at his wife to answer.

"You like Eddie, I like Grand MaMa." Lena decides.

"Ohhh." Jamie can't help but note "She's got you there."

"Shut up." Eddie mumbles out under her breath to her husband.

Lena turns her attention to her son in law "Jameson, tell me this, what do your Father's other grandchildren call him?"

"Grandpa." Jamie simply replies.

"See already taken!" Lena points out "We don't want to confuse our new Grandbaby. We will be Grand MaMa and Grand PaPa! and Francis will be Grandpa. Solved!"

Mia giggles "I like it."

Eddie heavily sighs in defeat "Fine." She relents "Grand MaMa and Grand PaPa…" She accepts as the more it's said, the more it starts to grow on her "Now Mia seriously. Too. Bed." She instructs with a point of her finger.

…..

Jamie and Eddie are pulling back the covers to get into bed when Jamie hears his wife muttering "Grand MaMa and Grand PaPa." while shaking her head in slight awe.

"Are you really okay with that?" Jamie cautiously questions.

Eddie shrugs "Yeah. I mean at first I scoffed a little but it's growing on me."

"You have to admit it's very Lena." Jamie points out.

Eddie laughs "It really is isn't it? Grand MaMa!" she declares into the room like she is announcing her Mother's entrance at some upscale debutante ball causing Jamie to laugh "And Dad of course just went along with it."

"Can I ask you something?" Jamie curiously inquires.

"Sure."

"I was watching him with Mia tonight – is that how he was with you growing up?"

Eddie nods "Yeah. Like I've always said – we had some really good times."

Jamie nods "So… in theory that's what our daughter has to look forward to as well then."

A smile creeps up on Eddie's face "Yeah."

Jamie nods in acceptance and understanding as he ponders something. A moment later he gives his head a single shake and lets out a huff of air in awe.

"What?" Eddie prompts.

"Everyone always talks about how the Reagan's are a tight knit family – we look out for one another, we always have each other's backs etc…" Jamie explains "And I've always known our daughter would get to experience that but tonight… tonight I guess I really realized she'll be getting more then that because she's not just getting the Reagans, she's getting the Jankos which means…"

But Jamie's voice trails off into silence.

"Which means?" Eddie finally prompts.

"She's getting a Grandma… sorry Grand MaMa…" Jamie immediately corrects "Too."

"Oh." Eddie quietly notes in understanding.

"My Mom's been gone a long time." Jamie notes "Grandma's been gone a long time. I'm just happy she'll still get that experience with your Mom."

Eddie tries to hold back her amused smile "You sure about that?" She just can't help but ask "Because I never met your Mom or Grandmother but I can tell you right now they are nothing like Grand MaMa!"

"Oh I know!" Jamie laughs out before turning serious "But yeah I am. Lena loves you fiercely, of that I have no doubt." Jamie tells his wife "And she's going to love and protect our daughter with that same fierceness."

"And my Dad?" Eddie curiously inquires to her husband.

Jamie nods "Him too."

"Wow." Eddie notes "To quote my Mother, Jameson Reagan…"

"Yes Edit?" Jamie sweetly interrupts.

Eddie narrows her eyes at her husband for a moment then just leans over and gives him a kiss.

Jamie returns the kiss then pulls back to look sideways at his wife "That was quoting your Mother?"

"Shut up!" Eddie laughs as she moves to give his shoulder a little shove but at the very last second she pulls her hand back in remembrance and turns extremely serious "Are you dizzy?"

Jamie slowly turns his head to look at his wife in confusion "No…" He replies.

"Headache?" Eddie inquires.

"No." Jamie again replies.

"Nauseous?" Eddie presses.

Jamie sighs in realization and slight annoyance "You can stop running through the list of concussion symptoms."

"You sound irritable." Eddie notes "That's a symptom."

"Eddie. Babe." Jamie begins "I love you but please stop. If I sound irritable it's only because you're being over protective. I'm fine. I don't have a concussion."

"Yeah I'll be the judge of that." Eddie decides as she settles into bed to watch over her husband.

Watching his wife watch him, Jamie sighs "You're going to spend all night watching me sleep aren't you?"

"Yup." Eddie confirms.

"And nothing I say is going to make you change your mind on that is it?" Jamie inquires.

"Nope." Eddie confirms.

"Okay, goodnight then." Jamie relents as he settles in to sleep knowing there is absolutely no point in arguing over it because if roles were reversed, he'd do the exact same thing…
