Test 674-3(Extended Part 5)
Subject Matter: Dragon Ball(Original Anime)
Target: Pilaf(A.K.A. The Great King Pilaf or Emperor Pilaf)
Results:
The series opens with a recap of the end of the Buu Saga, extolling how the Dragon Team, now named as such in the series, saved the entire universe from the terror that was Majin Buu, their lives changed forever, as they received recognition not just from the Earth, but hundreds of worlds around the galaxy. An era of peace has settled across the cosmos, and the peoples of all worlds look to Earth's champions as their protectors.
When the action proper starts, we see Bulma in a room that looks like a stereotypical boardroom, the lights low as she has slides projected beside her in holograms, mostly of various worlds that had been added into the ever growing trade empire of the Intergalactic Administrator, formally Galactic King. The figures in the dark listened with rapt attention, until she had finished, and the lights came on.
The group of figures is revealed to include many known and unknown races, some of which were obvious references to various other science fiction works, including Terminator type metallic skeletons, Dune style Navigators in glass tanks, and what the D-Class described as a floating jellyfish, believed to be mostly based around the hanar from the Mass Effect media franchise.
Regardless, the assembled group clapped at the end of her presentation, complementing Minister Bulma for another fantastic year end report, before a sudden quake starts the building shaking, and everyone grabs onto something for support. Sighing, Bulma asks them to all wait here for a moment, and storms out of the room, ready to yell at Goku, who is outside, sleeping in a chair.
Startled by his name, he falls over, and asks her what's going on, only for Bulma to growl, say it's not his fault, and pulls out a cellphone like device. She presses a few buttons, and suddenly a projection of the building is displayed, that fades into an actual image of it, showing a skyscraper that is literally floating in the air, bobbing a little as it moves through the sky, but being buffeted by waves of force from two colliding figures.
The figures turn out to be Lapis and Bulla, their fists flying as they battle each other, laughing and smiling, as the sequence plays out, showing improved animation(Dragon Ball Super was made several decades after the end of Dragon Ball Z), with the view zooming in and out, showing the much changed Earth as they fought amongst floating buildings that fit a variety of descriptions
Crystal spires, simple skyscrapers, normal homes, what appeared to be cubes, all of them flying above the surface of the Earth. Below, a few people still lived in what was obviously West City, but some of it looked far more advanced, and vehicles seemed to be largely missing, save for a few larger transports, as one and all seemed to be flying around, from children to the elderly.
After nearly colliding with one of the latter, Bulla apologized, just before her mother's image appeared in the air floating next to her, berating her daughter and son-in-law for training outside of an isolation chamber, but she pointed out they wanted to feel the wind in their hair. Besides, it was just a light spar. Bulma informed her that 'light spar' had caused enough shockwaves to shake the building she was in, which caused both to look embarrassed, as they took their fight outside of the city.
The next episode, the second, gives more of an overview of the world, as Bulma and Goku discuss all the changes in the last four years. The Earth, while not anything major in a galactic sense, had become the center for not only training, but also entertainment and excitement, with so many groups making their home here, or somewhere in the system it was just nuts, and she was really tired.
Goku was quick to remind his wife they were here for her, as her brain was really helping the Administrator work out all the kinks, as the number of worlds they were overseeing grew by the hour. And that was something to be proud of in his book. Sure, he, Bulla, and their friends could defend the universe from monsters and tyrants, but only Bulma could keep all the stuff that makes civilization what it is running.
She blushed at that, and the two shared a kiss, as the elevator they were on finally reached the bottom floor, and the two shot away, flying home to Capsule Corps HQ, the building looking little changed, despite the city around it changing greatly, the two landing in front of the door and moving into the surprisingly dark entrance hall, Bulma wondering if there's been a short, only to nearly fall backwards, Goku catching her, as a dozen or more people popped out yelling surprising as the lights came on.
A banner read happy birthday, with several numbers crossed out so you couldn't read them, indicating some differences of opinions on the age of the recipient, who turned out to be Bulma, who admitted she'd actually kind of forgotten her own birthday, with all her work...only to remember it wasn't until next week. Which the Dragon Team, led by Krillin, admitted, but they were renting a yacht for that.
Arranged with the Administrator, they were getting one of those big Star-Liner things, designed to look like an old seafaring vessel, but able to fly. They'd already invited all of her friends and family...more than the ones here anyway, and they even had some games planned, with Bulma herself having little anyone could buy her for presents, Kami had agreed to help make some special stuff, including a prize draw that included a wish on the Dragon Balls.
She was actually fine with that, after all, she already did have the best present of all, kissing Goku on the cheek, and causing the larger man to nearly fall over as everyone laughed, and the group descended into reminiscing about the old days, including with Kibito who apologized for the Shin's absence, as the Supreme Kai's work had started to pile on with the Mortal Level rising all over the universe thanks to their good work.
The scene shifts to the Sacred World of the Kais, finding Shin, along with his former mentor, now going by Daio(Pronounced Day-Oh), while the South Supreme Kai had returned to the world of the Core People, as Shin was obviously the right fit for Universe 7's Supreme Kai...with maybe a little more training, as it had turned out only twenty-eight worlds had actively growing civilizations on them, with over a thousand laying stagnant.
That wouldn't do at all, of course, and over the last four years, Daio had been teaching Shin and Kibito how to use their powers to aid worlds from a distance, infusing them with the energy of creation to encourage growth by leaps and bounds. It helped that the Intergalactic Administrator was not only aware of their efforts, but pointing out worlds that could use a gentle 'nudge' with their abilities, the being able to see potential where even the Kais couldn't.
However, as he was looking through a few worlds he was considering infusing, one, the planet Dorf where the Gan lived(An obvious Legend of Zelda reference), was blown in half, and the three Kais, Shin, Daio, and Elder, stared at it, and realized it was Beerus, the Destroyer, awakened from his slumber at last. Shin, swallowing hard knowing he would have to deal with him, found some courage when Elder commented it was about time he woke up, they could have used him four years ago.
We then follow Beerus and Whis, his angel companion, for a time. Beerus, appearing to be a humanoid sphinx-cat, wore robes that looked slightly egyptian themed, while Whis, a blue skinned humanoid with white hair and carrying a staff, wore a more robe-like ensemble. The pair bickered a bit about the planet, Beerus saying the food had been a bit too greasy for his liking, even as Whis reminded him he'd claimed it had been tasty, while also complaining that he hadn't sampled any of it.
The pair return to their own world, discussing their work, as the 'clean up crew' of the universe, sent to deal with planets that were simply not living up to expectations. Of course, Whis was quick to remind Beerus they really should be consulting with the Supreme Kai, he believes his name is Shin at the moment, before they continue down their list, as the universe has changed in a big way since Beerus' nap had started thirty-nine years ago.
Beerus dismisses this, as their universe changed little. No Supreme Kai was going to improve that within a single mortal lifetime, and so he had them return to their world, where Whis looked over a list of various worlds for them to look at, Beerus selecting one based off the sound of 'dinosaur meat', as he was feeling peckish still. Whis, chiding the feline, nonetheless used his staff to start them moving towards it.
When they arrived it was to a most unexpected sight. The community, that Whis knew had been little more than a mountain with caves carved out of it just a few decades before, was now a real village, with real buildings and everything. One of which was obviously out of place, and bore an emblem he knew he should recognize, it was on the tip of his tongue, but before he could say it, a being emerged, identifying herself as Intergalactic Patrolwoman, Bonyu, a member of the Pyroclast species with red skin, white hair, and a slightly rotund figure.
Whis, remembering her, if not the logo on her home, asked her if she had been part of the Frieza Forces a while ago, part of some major team they had. The Genbu or something. Bonyu corrects him, the Ginyu Force, and yes, she'd been a member, but that was a long time ago. She was working for the Administrator now, and she was wondering what they were doing on this world, a world she was sworn to protect.
Beerus, perking up at this, asked her if she would really fight for the people here on...Mogina was it? Regardless, they looked like pillars with eyes and tentacles, why should she care if their world was destroyed. Bonyu responded that she would care because it was her job...and she'd grown to like most of the people here, after she'd taken out a few belligerent leaders that had been oppressing them.
The Destroyer seemed interested, and asked her if she'd really fight, and she got into a stance, offering to show him. Beerus, smirking, shot forward, and the two had a few blows traded between them, Beerus, impressed with her power, even though her ki weapons never even touched him, and he was able to end the battle in one stroke, never really getting that serious at all honestly.
Still, he'd had to make some modicum of effort, and that was impressive. It also made him wonder after the training she'd gone through to get that strong. Bonyu, dusting herself off after being slammed into the ground, informed Beerus that she was trained in the way of the Patrol, a method developed on Earth by a saiyan and his wife. That, the word saiyan, sparked something in Beerus, a word he'd been trying to remember since he'd woken up.
Super Saiyan God! That was it! The Oracle Fish(A being on his world able to see the future in glimpses) had told him the legend of it, and had assured him, anyone of that level would be a challenge, even for someone of his strength. He, without a word, told Whis to take them to Earth, Bonyu watching the pair vanish, and then realizing she'd just sent the pair straight to the heart of Civilization, rushed back into her home to tell someone they were coming.
When we return to Earth, we find Bulma's birthday party, revealed to be her forty-fifth, well underway. Cameos from not only the series, but other Toriyama made media were abundant, with the Crane School, including an older looking Tao, Gedo, and even Commander Black in a Patrol uniform, all talking and laughing as they dined on various treats laid out on a table, on the deck of a flying yacht.
Shuffleboard, being played by a slightly older looking Roshi, a few grey hairs sneaking into his head, Shin, and Kami, which led to a shouting match, defused when Tien and Yamcha, joined in the game. In another room Trunks, Marron, and several children identified as Raditz and Diego's played in front of their parents, along with Gohan and Videl's child watching, a girl named Pan.
Bulma meanwhile seemed to dance between the groups, talking with various dignitaries, catching up with old friends, and otherwise enjoying herself more than she ever expected too, taking Goku aside and thanking him for helping set this up for her, and the saiyan admitting it had mostly been Bulla's work, but he was happy to take some of the credit when she gave him a kiss.
The party was just getting into the swing of things, with an intercom announcing it was only an hour until Bingo, which would have all sorts of fun prizes, including the grand prize of a Dragon Ball wish. That seemed to excite everyone from the older people, to the kids, all of whom were discussing just what they would ask Shenron for, all in a good natured way, as most of the guests, while not as wealthy or influential as Bulma, weren't doing badly for themselves either.
It was in the middle of Lapis and Bulla discussing wishing for a ship or a house that Shin, Daio, and Kibito appear, along with Krillin and Jecie both in their Patrol uniforms, all rushing up to say someone was coming to Earth, someone named Beerus the Destroyer. That, said quietly, still managed to make the whole of the party go still, as the name rattled around in the heads of everyone there.
Some, like Goku, were ignorant of just who that was, but Bulla, Krillin, and even his wife reminded him that the Destroyer was the one the Kais had said could beat Majin Buu with ease. That, if nothing else, caught Goku's attention, and as Bulma asked the visitors just when he'd arrive, Whis and Beerus appeared above the deck in a flash of light, the angel's hand pulling away from the Destroyer's back, as the two descended to the ship.
They landed, and immediately most of the more space based guests backed away, the Earth ones taking the hint and moving away from Beerus. Goku, however, walked forward without a care, and just came out and asked Beerus if he was really strong enough to beat Majin Buu. That question seemed to stun the cat man, who turned to the angel and asked who the HFIL that was.
The answer came from Shin, interestingly enough, he, though shaking a little, informed Beerus that he was a threat that had nearly destroyed the universe, one Beerus was supposed to be protecting, twice, in the last few million years. Beerus, glaring at Shin, mentioned that he'd heard nothing of this Buu creature, or if he had, then it had apparently not been such a dire threat, given the universe was still here, was it not?
The two spent a moment growling at each other, before Lapis got between them, offering a plate of food from the buffet, pointing out the old timers were bringing down the mood at what was supposed to be a party, and it wasn't every day a young lady turned twenty-seven. Everyone else was leaving the shop talk til tomorrow, so how's about they go all Wrath of God against each other later, and just enjoy themselves?
That actually did diffuse a lot of it, as Beerus sampled some of the food, and found it to be to his liking, immediately making a beeline for the buffet, and heaping stuff onto his plate. Luckily, Bulma had planned to have leftovers, and given some of the guests were saiyan, in whole or in part, they'd loaded up on the grub, meaning even with Beerus' appetite he did little more than slightly dent it.
The atmosphere, with the Kais and Beerus sitting on opposite sides of the deck, soon mellowed again, and Bulma was able to enjoy the party quite well, at least until Beerus had finished his plate, even complimenting the chef and saying he would have to take their worlds off his visit list...maybe after going there to pick up some takeaway. For now though, he was full, and happy, which left him the mood for a fight.
Goku was one to leap at the challenge, though Bulma had them take it to the ship's sparring deck, where an arena, looking suspiciously like the one for the Strongest in the Universe Tournament, had already been set up. Beerus found it...adequate for his needs, though he questioned Goku, as well as Raditz and Nappa, on if they had heard of something called a Super Saiyan God.
As it turned out, Raditz of all people had heard that one, despite the legend of the Super Saiyan itself being something he was mostly ignorant of. He was quick to remind Nappa that the lower class had their own legends to share, and this one, of someone named Yamoshi, the same one Nappa said was just a Super Saiyan, was said to have ascended beyond all mortal bounds, and into the realm of the Gods, near the end of his life.
Of course, Raditz had no idea how to do it, and besides, Goku wanted to fight with power he'd earned, not been given by some ancient ancestor or something. So the two squared off, as the ring was covered by a black aura, sealing them inside a pocket dimension. Beerus, feeling confident, claimed he would give Goku a free hit, and that he should probably make it a good one.
Goku thanked him, and then focused, his fist shining as he crouched down, and then surged forward, a shout of Kaio-Ken ringing in Beerus' ears, before he was slammed head on by a full grown saiyan. The God of Destruction, having tasted the power of Bonyu, had thought her to be an elite. After all, she had been one of the chosen of King Cold back in the day, so she should still be in the upper echelons of power.
He was wrong. Wrong enough that were he not...well himself, then the match would have gone to Goku in a single blow. He was Beerus, the Destroyer, however, one of the strongest beings in all existence. Even the other Destroyers were not on his level, not really, and so he caught himself before he could slam into the side of the pocket dimension they were battling in, and gently drifted back to the arena floor.
A moment later, he surged forward, his limbs vanishing as they moved so fast not even the warriors in the audience could see them. Goku seemed to be able to, however, and suddenly there was a cacophony from within the arena, the monitors having to cut the sound as something like a symphony of battleship guns was sounding out with each impact of flesh between the two fighters.
Their skills, their power, it was unreal to watch, to witness as they unloaded everything on each other. Or rather, as Goku unloaded on Beerus. It soon became clear that the Destroyer had more than earned his reputation. Goku's efforts, even going Super Saiyan and combining it with Kaio-Ken for brief spurts, were only enough to just barely come up to Beerus' level, the Destroyer finally ending the match by landing atop Goku, holding him literally under his foot.
The arena, sensing a winner, brought down the barrier, and Beerus, amused, allowed Goku to rise, but was shocked when the saiyan, a race known for their brutality and drive, hopped to his feet, declared it a hell of a match, and he really would have to train all out to have a chance next time. How in all that was holy did a saiyan grow to be like this? Desiring battle, but not war?
It got stranger when a woman with an off color tail stepped up, claiming she'd be his next opponent. He had nothing against females fighting, commenting about someone named Vados kicking him down more than once, but she was showing affection, to what he assumed was her father. That wasn't how saiyans operated! They were cold-blooded barbarians, who would just as soon punch a family member as look at them.
Bulla assured him, her family was nothing but kind to each other, and she loved her father, making Beerus just shake it all away, though he idly wondered if, perhaps, this bond might be what allowed the older male to go Super Saiyan, a state he knew was not common amongst their kind. She just laughed, briefly flashing golden hair herself, which made him even more curious, as the pair began their own battle.
She actually held her Super Saiyan state for a while, Beerus commenting that her style was better than her father's, but he was obviously the stronger, something she asked him if he was sure of, before she dropped out of Super Saiyan, and then flared a pure white aura around herself, one he recognized instantly. Demanding to know who let that annoying Kai out, he was answered with her flash stepping in front of him, claiming credit, and then smashing him down into the floor.
He hopped back up, and the pair clashed, Beerus even opining on how strong she was in this state, admitting perhaps he'd erred in sealing the Kai away, if he could make an opponent this strong. Bulla was quick to point out, strong as the form was, she'd earned every point of her power level, and proved it to him by starting to vary her attacks, even using her speed to match him blow for blow as his limbs disappeared.
Their match actually lasted almost half an hour, their power building with every blow, before Bulla finally caught Beerus' tail to her face, smacking her against the edge of the arena, counting as out and ending the match. The Destroyer, amused, complimented her strength, but asked if that was really all she had, and Bulla advised him she had one more trick to play, but she'd need someone else's help to pull it off.
Intrigued, both because of how far she pushed him without going to her limit, and to see how someone else could help her, he allowed it, and she had her husband come up, the raven haired man, Lapis joining her, and then smirking at him, as he informed Beerus he'd better bring his A-game to this next part. Growing even more curious, he watched the two perform the Metamoran Fusion Dance, causing them to become a single warrior.
The fusion, which told him to call it Lala, had the arena reactivated, before it began to power up. And up. And then even farther. Beerus, watching this, felt his face stretch, his grin becoming wider, as this entity before him pushed itself higher and higher, somehow far higher than either could alone. His tail began to vibrate in anticipation at the tip, before finally, he surged forward with a cry.
Outside, for the first time, the black wall that represented the pocket dimension they'd been transferred into shuddered, even the Kais looking at it concerned, as the two seemed to vanish from the monitors, which then turned to static as the barrier warped, twisted, and finally with a truly indescribable sound, shattered in one corner, a pair of figures burst out, and ripping their way through part of the ceiling, out into the open sky.
The view followed them now, as they traded blow after blow, the 'camera' flipping up and around them, always keeping them right side up, which caused the background view to swing wildly. The oceans around them parted as they passed, each impact of fist or feet met with a small burst of force, which only went to show how powerful they were, that they weren't doing more damage to the area around them, and instead were directing every bit of energy into each other.
Soon, they were in the nearby West City, dipping and swinging around the buildings, flying beneath one, and through traffic made up of not only others flying individuals, but large transports. All seemed frozen, showing how fast the pair was moving as they swiftly approached the Capsule Corps. HQ, spinning around the dome that made up the central building, before leaving the city behind.
Their battle smashed them into a mountain nearby next, blasting out into an underground area with a small lake in it, the pair finally pushing away from each other in this space, and smirking. Lala, using Lapis' barriers, began to toss them all around, as Beerus fired off his own ki blasts, actually laughing as the opponent somehow shaped their barriers to bounce them around, keeping them in play as the two collided again.
Now dancing amid a dozen blasts, and better glowing spheres, the two brawled, Beerus even batting aside a few shots that came too close with his tail, before the view shifts outside, just in time to see the mountain explode with the force of a bomb, as the two figures emerge, looking scuffed and bruised, but still very much smiling, as neither had ever been pushed this hard before.
Finally, they rose. The clouds parted around them as they swooped through them, and then went higher, the sky shifting from a bright blue, to a deeper hue, and then finally becoming black, as they reached orbit, and the blue sphere of the Earth was the backdrop of their battle, the two trading a thousand blows a second, as back on the ship, everyone watched through a crystal ball conjured by the Kais, and used by Fortune Teller Baba.
When the two finally separated, they were battered, and breathing heavily. Beerus even had to whip his chin, while Lala ran their fingers through their hair, scattering sweat like tiny sparkling stars amidst the firmament. Beerus admitted this was as far as he could go with mortal ki. But he could sense it. Lala could go farther, go harder, and he was excited to see just how far, so he was going to honor them with his true power.
With a growl, and a surge, he closed his eyes, and his aura began to warp, turning a bright red color, as it mixed with destruction's true power, his skin rippling a little, as it warped with it. Soon, his limbs seemed to grow, getting long, his torso joining it, and then his muscles becoming more defined, though in proportion smaller. When it was done, Beerus opened his eyes, and smiled at them.
He was larger now, his presence, overwhelming. Half again as tall, his body literally shaking with the power it possessed. He opened his eyes, revealing they'd gone red as well, save for the black slits for pupils, and his teeth were longer too, glinting wickedly. This was a God of Destruction, in all his glory, and Lala, staring at him, shook, anticipation and fear mixing together, until the first overwhelmed the second, and they surged forward.
Beerus, his power such that he could block without moving normally, still had to do so as Lala surged at him, their fists glowing as they used Lapis' barriers to enhance the strikes. Each blow created ripples in space, not just the air, ripples that spread out, causing everyone on the Earth below, and in distant stars to take notice, feeling the sheer might that was being used to challenge the power of a God.
Beerus looked pleased with the result, letting the blows rain down, until he finally smacked Lala away, and charged an attack, a huge orb of light, like a second sun, glowing above him, as he threatened that this blast could obliterate almost anything it touched, and he was very much hoping they could survive, the fusion grinning cokily, and then generating a barrier, inside a barrier, inside a barrier, the layers going up and up, until the marbles sized thing was surrounded by enough that it was equal in size to Beerus' own attack.
The two combatants literally threw their giant balls at each other, the flaming sphere meeting the smooth green one with a crack louder than any bomb. And for a moment, just an instant, it seemed they might be equal in power. Then a crack appeared on the outermost barrier of the green sphere, a crack that webbed out until it shattered away, the shards fading as the next layer down took the assault.
Again, a break, soon a third, faster and faster it went, but it was clear to see that the God's own attack was fading as well, and it soon became a race to the bottom, to see who's energy would fail first, the fusion straining as they tried to hold each layer, and the god doing the same to keep his flame alight. Soon, despite starting a hundred meters wide, both attacks were the size of baseballs, and with another shatter, only the marble remained.
And yet, the marble sized barrier that formed the core would not be denied, and as the slightly larger fiery sphere slammed into it, a crackle of lightning passed between them, ending only as the marble expanded, engulfing the other attack, and then, with a pop like a balloon, it took both into the void, snuffing out the last bit of fire, while extinguishing itself as well, leaving the two floating in space, smiling at each other.
Lala seemed about to say something, sweat drenching their brow, but before they could, their body began to glow, and with a small plip, the two forms, Bulla and Lapis, appeared in the fusion's place, Beerus, concern obvious on his face, flew to them, and then carried them downwards. The crowd, still in the ship's arena space, quickly poured out onto the deck, Lazuli and Bulma both rushing to the pair, as Beerus handed them to them, his size reducing as he let go of his godly might.
When Beerus returns to his normal state, and the two fighters are revived using Senzu Beans that Korin happened to have brought with him to the party, Bulla actually seems ready for round two, or was it three? Regardless, they pushed him into using his God power, that meant Lala was so strong that they could beat a God, right? And she aimed to pass that hurdle the next time.
Beerus, amused, informed her that, while it was very impressive that the Fusion had been able to defeat his mortal power, his God level was higher in the extreme. To be fair, they had matched up to him, at something around 3% or less of his full strength in that form, and that was to be lauded, but even then, he hadn't brought the totality of even that much to bear against them.
Bulla, surprising the God of Destruction, didn't seem the least bit flustered, simply telling him she'd take it even farther next time then, and then farther still. Lala, her and Lapis' fused form, didn't have a limit, so much as it took time to increase their power from their last highest. While they were in that form though, they could just keep going up, so eventually, they'd surpass any foe with it.
Elder Kai chimed in and pointed out that it was true. The Ultimate Form, the power he could unlock in most beings, wouldn't normally affect an Infinity Engine, being a piece of technology, but the Fusion had found a way around that little rule. Mixing Infinite Power and a form that literally had no upper limit meant that, eventually, you could beat anything in the universe, if they gave you time.
The cat man nodded, but then pointed out that fusing to get that sort of boost was the problem. They were strong, no doubt, but fusion was not an unknown art, and he had at least a dozen techniques he was aware of, though none he'd mastered he'd admit, that could undo such a thing. Still, for a time, they had stood toe to toe with a God in battle, and that alone was deserving of a reward, something to discuss once the party was over.
True to his word, the God of Destruction then watches the rest of the party, not really doing anything else, and allowing the mood to shift into a celebratory one, with Krillin and Jeice taking a moment to inform the Patrol of what had happened, as they turn out to be fairly high ranking members, with Krillin being an instructor at the Patrol's main academy, located on Earth, and Jeice being an Elite Patrolman, sent on various assignments, similar, he notes, to his work as in the Ginyu Force, expect bringing hope instead of terror.
The party climaxes in an entire episode dedicated to the Bingo Game, which the D-class describes as something that would put Yu-Gi-Oh to shame for how they pull out cards, and stamp them as the numbers are called out, slowly whittling down the contestants, until only Kami and Hercule remain in the running, Kami winning out when all Hercule needed was a single number, lamenting his ill fortune at losing the wish...even though he did win a fairly large cash prize instead, which is what he would have wished for anyway.
Kami's wish, as it turns out, is for the dragon to enjoy himself for the next year, which, for some reason, causes him to have a straw hat, shades, a lei(Traditional Hawaiian flower necklace), and some sunscreen on his snout, before vanishing. No one is quite sure what to make of that, but they decide to just laugh it off, and Beerus then returns to the matter at hand, an offer for the group.
Lala, while not an appropriate apprentice, given their temporary nature, had shown something he'd been looking for for a long time. A sparring partner able to keep up with him. With the proper training he saw potential in several people here, and would like to offer as many as want a chance to come train on his world with himself and Whis...mostly with Whis, but he would be there to help when he could.
Bulla and Lapis leapt at the chance, both happy to have some fun. Goku too, though he did look slightly ashamed to be leaving Bulma and Trunks behind. She did seem put out at first, but then smiled, and assured her husband, she would be fine. This was the sort of thing he lived for, and she would never take that away from him, so she encouraged him to take a break and go have some fun.
Krillin seemed ready to pounce on the opportunity, but then Jeice reminded him they had jobs, while Lazuli pointed out their daughter...however, he countered the first point with the fact that he was a trainer himself, and this would make him even better at it. The second he couldn't counter quite so easily, but when Marron encouraged him to go, to be a hero, Lazuli had to give that he could have his fun too.
No one else as it turned out wanted to go...well not wanted and could anyway. Roshi would have loved to learn from the God of Destruction, but his place was on Earth. He wished his former students well, however, as did everyone else as the four of them placed their hands on Whis' back, and the angel slammed his staff into the ship, repairing it, as well as some small points of damage Lala and Beerus' fight had caused over the world, before vanishing.
The next arc, interestingly, stays with the group that was left behind, as we find out just how life on Earth, and throughout the galaxy works in a sort of anthology format, with groups of episodes following various characters. Starting off with Bulma, who, now that she'd been left alone, had to deal with Trunks, though with help from the other 'moms' of the group, namely Videl, Chi-Chi, and Lazuli.
This arc ends with a 'Girls Night Out' story, where the women get drunk in a bar, and discuss their husbands, before Gohan arrives to drive them all home, revealing that he does in fact, have a lot of power himself, as he's able to beat the drunken Videl when she tries to fight him, but that Lazuli is stronger than him. Luckily, she can take more alcohol than the rest, and after a few punches, she helps get the others home.
Next we follow Jaco, as we find out that the assumption of his Earth Cultural Liaison Officer assignment being a punishment was nothing of the sort. He had in fact, had to fight tooth and nail for it, as it turned out the Earth jobs were considered the cushiest assignments in the Patrol's history, this planet being the center for a lot of developments, and more importantly, the home to the Intergalactic Patrol's Recruit Training Center.
The Patrol's job, as it turned out, was a bit more complex than simply 'peace officer', though they were trained to deal with belligerent types, their primary duty was mostly administrative, and as a sort of 'backup supplier' as each and every officer, trained on Earth by Krillin or his apprentices, knew two techniques in order to earn the title of Patrolbeing. The first was Kaio-Ken, with the ability to surge your strength being vital in some corners of the galaxy even now.
The second was the important one, however. A technique Krillin had been taught by a Namekian, and apparently something they'd developed. Materialization, the ability to convert ki directly into matter. Using this, the societies being set up by the Intergalactic Administrator were becoming what could only be described as 'post-scarcity' as material wealth became less a function of how much you had, and more how much you wanted.
In only a few decades, this ability of the Patrol, mixed with their role as peacekeepers, had shot the Universe's Mortal Level, a measure of general happiness and growth according to Shin, up higher than it had even been before. And it was still going up as Wants and Needs were fading away, and people were able to turn their attention away from such things, and more towards pursuits of the soul, including art, science, and exploration.
Not to say there weren't those who would take advantage of such complacency, but those that did would find the Patrol to be able to give with one hand, and punch you in the jaw with the other, as Jaco, dealing with some Frieza Force members who'd tried to use the Dragon Balls to bring back the Tyrant(Foiled because he'd been dead for more than a year), hauled them to the Security Sector, a large station housing the worst of the worst.
Here, as the narrative is passed on, following Berry Blue and Sorbet briefly, we are quickly introduced to the Warden of Security Sector, Cooler. This job, as he explains to the group of former soldiers, was more fulfilling than any other, both because it was all about control and power, an instinct instilled in his very genetic code, and also about bringing order to the universe, something he himself desired.
We are introduced soon to a few cameos from the various movies that had not made appearances yet, including references to dozens of science fiction media, and super hero media franchises. One of the officers, named Arasia, even spoke through a device on her hand, a Lens, which was interesting, especially as the D-Class noted that the uniforms of the Security Control Patrol Forces looked like the MTF's logo(Actually the Foundation's own symbol).
We also find out that the Security Sector isn't just for the living, as there's a gateway deep inside the station that leads into the 'Other World' otherwise known as the world of the dead, where Souls that are take a while to process, or are simply too strong for the Ogres that make up the typical guards there, are held. At this point, the D-Class informs the research staff that the HFIL(Actually a censored HELL) on the uniforms of the Ogres has been replaced with something that looks like three crescent moons.
(Note: Testing was halted at this moment for several weeks as the footage was analyzed, and her description was given several times, including having her draw the symbol, which matches with the 'Three Moons Initiative' logo seen in other interactions with them. The footage did contain the Corbenic native particles that have come to saturate media exposed to SCP 3922.
A meeting was called of the O5 council in its entirety at this juncture, as this was considered a massive breach. However, given the nature of 674 vs 3922, it was eventually decided, in a 9 to 4 decision, to continue testing. If this object has given TMI access to this universe, it is already too late to reverse the effect, and they or the Foundation Logoed organization within the narrative would possibly consider ceasing a hostile action in and of itself.)
Resuming the story, Cooler places the group of former Frieza Soldiers in what he terms 'Holding' which turns out to be a form of therapy and counseling, trying to either dissuade them from such actions that might bring harm to the universe, or discover the root causes of it. In all but one case, the cause was a simple desire for power, which was either turned aside, or resulted in them being sent to processing.
The one exception, Berry Blue, who's desire was born of actual concern for 'her ward' as she referred to Frieza, was eventually convinced that, whatever her feelings for him, he was gone, and was not coming back. She was, eventually, recruited into the staff of the Security Sector, with several others being sent to see if they were Patrol material, with those sent to processing, mostly Sorbet and Tagoma, meeting the other inmates.
Here, we are introduced to Prisoner 425, Moro, a sorcerer of some skill, who is presently planning a break out, his skill with magic allowing him to slowly loosen the bonds of this prison he'd been dumped into, and eventually, unlocking not just his own cell, but all of the ones in Deep Processing, where those who had little chance at reforming or becoming functional members of society were kept.
Moro had obviously intended on them being a distraction for him, or otherwise using them to power himself up, as he had a way to siphon off their ki to add to his own. His efforts, as it turned out, were in vain, as the other prisoners were all at or above his own level of power, and when it was noticed where the energy was going, he was immediately killed by a small group of them.
The escapees were then recaptured by the Security Containment Patrol Forces, with Cooler only having to step in once to restrain a mechanoid prisoner, and then shoving him back into his cell, while in Other World, Moro finds himself chained into a cage, and lowered into a cavern in Tartarus by a being he identifies as Merus, an Angel-in-Training, leaving him with no magic at all, and an eternity of this hole to look forward to.
This arc ends with an episode following the Intergalactic Administrator, shooting off a report to Shin, with a list of worlds he'd like infused, if at all possible, while also filing and shooting off dozens of others, the universe dancing to his tune, and creating a lovely melody as the camera zooms out from his chamber, where he sits suspended in the air with dozens of monitors around him, to the station he lives on, with a million or more ships flitting about on various trade and other missions.
When we return to the group that went with Beerus, we rewind to their arrival on the Destroyer's homeworld, a garden like place, with a small lake in the center that had a huge tree growing out of it, all on a rotating upside down pyramid, that orbited three stars of varying colors, giving the world an almost Arcadian presence, that spoke of plenty and peace, despite a Destroyer's mission being to end such places if necessary.
The group was soon left to their own devices by Beerus, who claimed he needed a nap after the fights, but encouraged Whis, whom he claimed to be the one who taught him, to 'put them through their paces.' Whis, rolling his eyes, assured his 'Lord' that he would do just that, though as Beerus went to nap, he asked Krillin about something they'd been discussing, and the monk smirked, before pointing a finger.
A moment later, a veritable feast was sitting before them, a copy of something Krillin himself had sampled in his time with the Patrol. Not quite as...diverse as the buffet set up for Bulma's birthday, it was still quite the meal, and the group, other than Lapis dug in with aplomb. The enhanced human, not seeing much point in eating, as he didn't need to, decided to instead explore the planet.
He flew up as high as he could, even taking a snapshot with his eyeball(Not actually a false eye, but a data reader attached to it, as explained in a filler earlier). He then took his time, diving around the tree, and even peeking into Beerus' room, catching a picture of the cat in his pajamas, before finally growing bored and returning to the others, sharing that the world was exactly as small as it looked, but felt...weirdly heavy.
Whis pointed out that was because this world was designed as a training ground for a Destroyer's Apprentices. This was where Beerus was supposed to bring those worthy of succeeding him and training them in the ways of the Gods. Not that he'd done so for a very long time. In fact, the Elder Kai was still Young the last time Beerus had even attempted to train someone, and when asked what happened, Whis merely commented that it had taken some time to clean the mess up.
Regardless, he begins their own training now, starting with a spar with himself. He, using his staff, is able to easily body all of them, save Lapis, who is able to prevent himself from being slammed into the ground with his barrier, but is able to only 'just' do that, and finds no opening to attack. Whis still complements them, as he's hardly holding back at all fighting them, and from an Angel, that's a hell of a compliment.
Over the next few episodes, we see the group training with each other, Whis, and even Beerus at times, not only sparing, but doing weight and ki training as well. The last is actually the most interesting to watch, as it takes several forms over the course of the arc, beginning with learning to move in bulky suits that actually use your ki against you, forcing you to learn perfect control, which Lapis masters instantly due to his unique nature.
The others do eventually get it down, however, and are surprised with the results, commenting on how it was like the Limiters, but multiplied by a million or something, as their power surges into new heights. Whis comments that it's not quite that good, but instead refines their control, not their power, meaning they are, in fact, no stronger than when they started with the suits, this is just them fighting at top form at all times.
The training branches from there, Lapis having to do meditation at the bottom of the lake, Krillin running laps around the planet, and the father/daughter duo almost constantly fighting Whis, who keeps them from falling over from exhaustion via the magic in his staff. After an episode of that, Whis brings everyone back together for something focused specifically on God Ki, and a lesson in how it works.
Ki came in three normal varieties, and one abnormal one, as he explained. Divine Ki, the Ki of the Gods, specifically the Kais and Guardians like Roshi on Earth. This Ki could be used to encourage growth and would bring out the being's full potential with it. It wasn't something easy for anyone to master, and Mortals trained in it tended to turn very Serene as it acted on them, changing them in ways.
Destroyer Ki, which he called God Ki, short for God of Destruction Ki, was the opposite. It was a force of annihilation, but it was living energy as well. After all, life was all about death, in a way. It was only by balancing the two that a universe could exist at all, and learning to use it was not something evil, as it was as natural as breathing for some, and mastering it would grant a being the right to be in the realm of the Gods.
Mortal Ki, meanwhile, was something different. Creation and Destruction were two sides of the same coin, but in the end, they had to be what they were, and thus, they had limits on what they could do. God Ki could no more heal a sick or injured man, than Divine Ki could cast down a world that had fallen to darkness. Mortal Ki, while technically weaker than the other two, could be used for whatever the holder desired.
Of course, then there was Demon Ki. It was a corruption on the other three types, mostly Mortal, to be fair, but it could come from Gods of Destruction or Kais, if they fell hard enough, and it had so many uses, in the same way Mortal Ki did. The biggest was that it could spread itself to anything it touched, and it was why Demons were so restricted in how they could interact with any other realm, as they could easily lead to the end of all things.
Explaining this, he pointed out that learning God Ki should be not much harder for them than Roshi's learning of Divine Ki, but it would require...a special location for training, and thus he sucked them into his staff, a foggy realm of nothingness, where every movement was muddled. It took them hours simply to learn how to move a single muscle, and longer still to make meaningful progress, but each step led into the next.
When they were returned to the normal realm, they were informed only a few moments had passed, but that to them, it likely had felt like months in that condition, to which they confirmed, their bodies laying down on the grass, and almost immediately going to sleep. It would take, even with a handful of Senzu Beans, almost a month before any one of the four, even Lapis, were able to function normally again.
This time, the power increase was palpable, and all four could tell they had grown stronger, but something else too. Whis, smiling, informed them that, if they were curious, they should try to focus on their ki, in the same way they had done within that other realm. Their bodies remembered it, and it only required their spirits to bring it out. It was Krillin of the four that figured it out first, his body suddenly surging with power.
Instantly, his form changed. Not unlike a Super Saiyan transformation, his aura changed, taking on a blood red color, but more importantly, his limbs buffed out, and his size increased, almost tripling, so he was, in fact, the tallest of the group, while his proportions increased in the same way, leaving him looking somewhat slender, but also with a feeling of utter power from within himself.
Better, a halo had formed on his back, a large ring of colors, like a rainbow, spinning behind him, and it crackled with power, power he unleashed with a thought, literally able to use it as he would a piece of his own body, projecting ki from within it to level a large part of the forest of Beerus' world, the trees literally disintegrating at the merest touch of his power now, as he smiled at his gains.
Goku got it after less than a minute watching Krillin play, his form not changing as much, merely slimming down, but his hair changing into a reddish hue along with his eyes. He even commented that it felt sort of like Super Saiyan, but...calmer. Looking around, he could sense the whole of the world around him, and how best to destroy it all...and yet, the same sense that told him that, told him specifically not to destroy anything, as it was all working perfectly.
Lapis and Bulla, watching the two elder fighters, were frustrated as neither were able to attain the new form, even after an hour of trying, but Whis told them to take heart. It wasn't anything that someone could pick up in a day, after all. Beerus himself had taken almost a month from the Realm training to finally unleash his own god power. It was merely that Goku and Krillin were beyond skilled at what they did.
Heartened by the Angel's words, the pair spared a bit with each other, as Goku and Krillin did the same. It was only as they saw them flying overhead that Bulla came up with an idea, and Lapis quickly agreed, the two fusing, and rising to challenge their elders, Whis agreeing it would be interesting to see just how far the fusion could push itself in this state, and that perhaps they might achieve together what they couldn't alone.
The three were soon dancing amid the sky, clouds parting around them, as Lala drove themself into the pair of elder fighters, their new god ki powered forms proving to be more than a match for the younger fusion at first. Though as had been noted, pushing even a little seemed to only make the joined being stronger, instead of weaker, and soon enough, it was anyone's guess who would win the spar.
Well, anyone's guess until Lord Beerus, awoken from a nice nap by all the noise, flew up, finding himself elated at their achievements, and then assuming his own god form with a single swift motion of his claws, pointing out you don't need to be theatrical every time. He then proceeded to lay out all three at once, even as they strained themselves, with Beerus saying he was impressed, though he couldn't go gentler on them than 3%, as that was the lowest he had in this form.
Still, as they landed, and powered down, Krillin and Goku could tell, their bodies had grown stronger. Better, as they unfused, Bulla and Lapis could feel it, they could feel the power inside them, and while they couldn't access it yet, fighting in the realm of the gods had shone a beacon on the path they would walk. Bulla especially seemed happy at this, and soon, the pair were both meditating together under the lake once more.
Later, during a training with Beerus again, Bulla finally was able to do it, breaking through her barrier, and feeling her whole body shake, before she shifted red, her god ki exploding out of her in a storm, and making Beerus literally shout with delight, as he powered up to his god form as well, and went at her with his 3%, still able to beat her easily, but it was still more of an effort than he'd had to put in against all 3 fighters before.
Lapis, the last one to finish, despite being the first to master his own ki, was able to finally understand the principle, and when he let loose his own god ki, much like Krillin, he gained a halo, a ring of light behind him, but this one looking less like a smooth hoop, and more of a cog, with it slowly spinning behind him. Better, rather than firing blasts out of it, he learned he could make constructs of his shield energy from it, creating not only duplicates of himself and the others, but things like missiles, and even guns and weapons.
Bulla, watching her husband and 'uncle' fighting in the sky as she and Goku stopped for a light lunch she'd made(Consisting of only five tables of food, so not even close to a full meal), she admitted to being jealous. Their god form, and Lord Beerus' were so unique. Their own seemed disappointing by comparison, as really, their god forms were just variations on Super Saiyan.
Goku had to admit, it did feel like they'd fallen behind, but then snapped his fingers, leaning in almost conspiratorially and talking to Bulla, suggesting something, and when he was done, she was smiling, mischievously, as they began to plan out a training schedule for just the two of them. Whis, who was eating with Beerus from a table prepared by Krillin, smiled at this, and when the catman asked what he was smirking about, the angel simply said his students, all of them, were growing up so fast.
Before they'd gotten a chance to show off what they were working on, however, a visitor stopped by, a most unexpected one. It looked like Beerus and Whis...but with some details wrong. For one thing, the Beerus was chubbier, and looked a lot less powerful. Meanwhile the Whis was female, and the aura she gave off spoke of something that could literally end them in a single glance, even as she smiled warmly at all of them.
These two turn out to be the Universe 6 Destroyer and his Angel. Lord Champa, brother to Beerus, and Vados, Whis' sister. Mind, all Angels were siblings, as Whis interjected, but Beerus and Champa being related was actually unique amongst Destroyers. This resulted in a run down of how the universes worked, as the four mortals asked questions, and the two angels were only happy to answer.
The Universes, of which there were 12 at the moment, each came in pairs. Sort of like how you needed a North and a South in terms of magnets, Universes required a similar balance, one up, one down, as it were, in terms of polarity. Each universe reflected the other, though not perfectly. A life or planet ended in one, could very well thrive in the other, but overall, they would share similar traits.
This included the appetites of their Destroyers in this case, as Champa had come with a set of eggs he considered a delicacy, and wanted his brother to judge for himself/be jealous that his own universe lacked such. He had, as fortunate had it, brought enough for everyone to sample one, and without waiting to be asked twice, the saiyans rushed to the dining hall, and sat down to eat.
As the group, even Lapis dig in, they actually do find the eggs themselves to be okay. Nothing spectacular, as Krillin notes, but not bad either. Champa seems to take umbrage with this insult of low expectations, but Krillin offers to make him something to actually excite his palette, using the power of Magic Materialization to whip up a feast for the eyes, nose, and mouth all at once.
The saiyans literally attack the meal, as Goku blows off a chunk of meat with a ki blast and catches it in his mouth, as Bulla pounds her fist on the table, collapsing part of it and letting the food slide into her mouth. Krillin and Lapis both laugh at the antics of the two saiyans, Krillin reminding them that he kept offering to teach them the technique as well...though to be fair, Goku's efforts were poor at best, and Bulla's tended to explode when using it.
Champa, not impressed with what they're doing, does take a bite himself, specifically a slice of what appears to be a giant cookie with icing on it, like some kind of cake. Within two bites, he finds himself picking the whole thing up and biting large chunks out of it, Beerus doing likewise with a similar platter before him, the two gods' sweet tooths sending them into much the same food craze as the saiyans.
Lapis and Krillin, having had already had their fill, both attend the angels, being respectful of the pair in ways they weren't even to the Gods of Destruction, with Lapis even pouring the female Vados a new cup of liquor when her own runs out, while Krillin manifests a teapot, with some 'special tea' already steeped and ready in it for Whis, who thanks the monk profusely as he partakes.
When the meal is finished, Champa, through a large belch, asks where Beerus found such helpful and unassuming staff, but Beerus tries to dodge the question, turning the conversation to something else as if to hide something. That actually manages to catch Champa off guard, commenting that they seem quite civil, and asking where they come from to Whis instead, as they all appear to be the same species.
Mind, he's informed that there are two...possibly three or four species standing before him. Human, Saiyan, Human-Saiyan Hybrid, and Enhanced Human. Though they do all hail from the same world, Earth. That has Champa asking Vados if they have an Earth in their own universe, to see if he could recruit some agents from there that are as skilled at this group.
Unfortunately, his own Earth was destroyed, a war she notes, getting out of hand. Not an uncommon occurrence for mortals, sadly. Champa, in the original timeline, would be in a foul mood at this point, and demand a contest between his champions and Beerus', to try and gain the Earth of Universe 7 for his own reality, and its myriad peoples and foodstuffs that he might increase his own wealth and prestige.
That, however, was because Beerus had antagonized him, with Goku's unwitting help. Here, fed properly, and quite full, the other God of Destruction wouldn't dream of being in a foul mood, and is merely disappointed, though takes heart when he remembers the saiyans, as he does have some of those in his universe. Perhaps they can be trained in the ways of this 'Humanity'.
Both Bulla and Goku perk up at the idea of seeing more people like themselves, and after a quick discussion, asking about what sort of people the saiyans are, finding out they were in the employ of a Lord Frost, who was an enforcer of Peace in his section of the galaxy. That is of note to the others, who ask how old he is, Krillin remembering that Cooler once said his first ancestor was named Frost.
Vados confirms that their Frost has spawned no progeny as yet, and thus, has lived for several millennia already, though how many in particular she's not sure. It is at this point that Vados reminds her master that, while the egg was of minor import, they had actually come here for another reason, and when Champa seemed confused, she mentioned a word in a language no one save herself, Beerus, Whis, and Champa understood that was captioned as 'Singing Spheres'.
It soon came out that Champa, for the last two hundred years had been gathering a set of 'Singing Spheres' he described as Wish Orbs, though Whis simplified it farther, calling them Super Dragon Balls. The Dragon Balls the cast knew were pale imitations of the true magical items. As Namekians were want to do, they looked to the heavens and copied them, to some extent, similar to how they had adapted the Elder Kai's potential unleashing into something they could do more easily, if not as effectively.
The Super Dragon Balls were much the same. The ones the cast knew had limits, such as how they couldn't simply wish away Buu, or the limit of one year on bringing someone back to life. The original 'Singing Spheres' named such in the language of the Gods for their distinctive humming, were able to summon a being far greater than Shenron or Porunga, its name not something Whis could translate, but simply terming him the God of Dragons would suffice.
His power was, to put it bluntly, without limit. Wish for it on these orbs, and that desire will be manifested. You could bring back long dead people, turn yourself into a being beyond the Gods themselves, anything you desired could be yours. Still, after each use, the Super Dragon Balls scattered not just over a single world, or even within a simple galaxy but across all the myriad universes, and while their inactive period was fairly short, only a few hours all told, they were almost impossible to gather.
Champa, as it turned out, had six of the things, ready to make his wish when he found the seventh, and now that he'd heard of this 'Earth' place, he even had the perfect wish. To transport Earth from Universe 7 to 6, which causes Bulla to ask why bother with that, and not just bring back his own Earth instead? After all, if they have no timelimit, you could just bring them back, and then stop the war, right?
Champa considered this, and agreed, before finally wondering just who these mortals were, as they seemed most open for mere staff, and Beerus introduced them as his apprentices and sparring partners, something that seems to take his brother a moment to process. He then flies off into a rage, informing Beerus that if he stepped down they'd have to shuffle universes again, and he was just getting comfortable in 6.
This leads to him explaining that Destroyers are not from their universes, after all, if they were, they might show favoritism to them. Instead, when a Destroyer steps down, or is defeated in battle, the others are all changed around. This was to keep the Destroyers from becoming too complacent in their universes, as much as to prevent Destroyers from sparing worlds for sentimental reasons.
Krillin is the one to point out that that sort of system sounds...like it was grafted onto reality, and Whis compliments the monk's intuition, as it was indeed just that. Before the Destroyers, the Kais had been allowed to simply 'infuse' or 'mold' life as they saw fit, all in the pursuit of higher Mortal Levels, a measure of prosperity and happiness, in a way, of the mortal life that dwelled within a universe.
Beerus then stated that sometimes, infusing life until it's prosperous can cause it to grow into truly horrendous forms. He and Champa hailed from a universe that had become overrun by barely sophent bug like creatures that were, shocking as it sounded, stronger even than they were, given they could spawn individuals on the level of Frieza by the millions, and even stronger if needed.
Lord Zeno, the Omni-King himself had had to step in, by that point only their own world of Abyssinia had remained, and they, champions of their people, the last warriors left. The Supreme Kai of their world had been consumed, and the horde would, unchecked, have gone on to do the same to every universe, until Zeno transported them all out of it, and simply erased the entire universe with a gesture.
When it was over, given this was the third universe to succumb to such, and with a fourth teetering on the brink, falling less than a million years later, he created the position of 'Destroyer'. Able to tap into the same power of Zeno himself, and tied to the life force of the Kais, the Destroyers were to 'weed out' those flawed creations of the universe, and allow the more stable ones to grow freely.
That was a few millions years ago now, and the brothers, with no home to return to, had been amongst those chosen for the positions of Destroyers of two of the universes. They'd seen a few others come and go, with most
Destroyers easily outlasting their Kais, but also retiring, or even being beaten by someone within their own universe, resulting in a shuffle of the various Destroyers, to keep things interesting as the angels' father liked to tell them.
Mind, the last time that had happened had been...wow over five million years ago, they'd actually been allowed to keep 6 and 7, due to their bond as brothers through five other shuffles. Beerus and Champa were both kind of shocked at the time, and asked the angels who amongst the other Destroyers had active apprentices or candidates, and were told that only two had them.
Belmund of Universe 11 was training a man named Toppo in the art, while Liquiir of Universe 8 was doing the same with a being called Silver Tiger. That was it, though Vados was quick to add that Rumshii of Universe 10 was in fact as old as Champa and Beerus, and had been speaking of retiring himself. Both catmen hissed at her for that, reminding her that neither one was looking to 'retire' any time soon, Beerus just wanted to train harder.
Still, Goku got starry eyed, thinking about all those strong fighters in the other universes, people he would never meet or get to confront, and it seemed like such a bummer. That, however, caught Champa's attention, and he, seeing Beerus already considering the same, pointed out that Beerus WAS the strongest Destroyer, so it only made sense that his apprentices would be stronger even than other Gods of Destruction in and of themselves.
Beerus, knowing where this was going, points out they can't have his 'training dummies' fight the other Gods. What would happen if they won? Champa admitted that, but then proposed having them fight the strongest beings in the other universe. Universe 7, as it happened, had been climbing the Mortal Level scale so swiftly it had gone from just above the Trash Universe(Identified as Universe 9 later) to challenging Universe 2 for the Sixth Highest, and they were still going up.
A friendly match or eleven. The four of his apprentices versus one warrior, hand picked from each universe? That would be a sight to see, wouldn't it? And it would show just how good his training was, if his four apprentices could beat each and every one of them. Throw in a wish on the Dragon Balls of Universe 6 or 7(They had those right...yes we do? good), and they could go all out, hold nothing back, and just bring people back to life once the tournament was over.
That decided, Champa went off with Vados to inform the other Gods, setting the date for the Tournament of Destroyers in one week, so they could gather together not only the 'strongest' in the universes, but also other watchers and the like. After all, it wasn't every century that multiple universes came together for some fun. Almost skipping with joy, laughing like a boy about to go to the circus, Champa leff with Vados.
The others immediately looked at Goku, knowing this was his fault. The strongest beings from eleven universes? Sure, the group was strong, but wasn't that a bit much, even for them? Goku, however, brushed it off, pointing out it wasn't like there was anything to lose, and besides, it would go a long way to showing them just how far they'd all come, like the World Martial Arts Tournament he used to compete in.
That mollified a few people, and with Whis' help, they contacted Bulma, who after being annoyed with her husband for getting them roped into this, was just as excited with meeting the other universes, and quickly brought a small contingent of diplomats, scientists, and the Administrator himself together, all to bear witness to the Tournament, and hopefully make some peaceful inroads with those from beyond their borders.
The Kais likewise were annoyed, but agreed to attend, since likely the Supreme Kais from other universes would be there, if only to help keep the Destroyers in line. Beerus was put out with that idea, that he needed someone to keep him in line, but a cough from Whis told him to not say anymore, and soon the group, almost a hundred strong, set out in a 'Chariot of the Gods', which looked for all the world like a glass box, but it did take them where they needed to go, so it was fine.
When they arrived on the 'Nameless Planet' a world between Universes 6 and 7, people were already here, mostly a group of Angels that were preparing a grand arena for the combat to come, smiling at the contestants, and thanking Whis for the show. Beerus' attendant simply laughed it off, saying it was actually all Lord Champa's idea, but hoping they all enjoyed themselves, as everyone was ushered inside.
Within, the seats weren't even close to full, but Bulma insisted on going around and meeting those already here, while Bulla, Lapis, Krillin, and Goku went to the 'waiting area' for the fights to begin, as people began to arrive in droves, an in all manners of shapes and sizes. Eventually, the Tournament was set to begin, Lapis going first by his own request, just to get it out of the way.
The Tournament of Destroyer's arc begins on a still image of Lapis, as he climbs into the arena, visions of his fellow Universe 7 team mates standing behind him smiling, as in front of him, 11 Silhouettes loom menacingly above the stadium, looking like quite the warriors themselves, all waiting for the chance to tear the group to pieces. Lapis is smiling though, as he takes that last step, and the arc begins in earnest.
